  • love the 90's - proud that I grew up in this great era for music

  • i love this song and i love the video

  • I love this song her voie is so powerful, I listened to it as a child and can still remember it.

  • Love this song but this has to be the worst video ever

  • @CrystalPalaceMonkey I've seen far worse.

  • @Quietlydoesit a man wrote this song.

  • my late mother had a saying (about me and some of her other fifteen children) "you could try the patience of a saint" we still grieve thirty four years later, Eddie captures the love coupled with the difficulties of parenthood

  • @claresongstress you where one of 15 ?

  • LOVE THIS SONG

  • Just so you all know. This was written by Boo Hewerdine!

  • lovely crafted song

  • Fell in love with Eddie when she a backing singer for The Eurythmics..... This is Bliss! xx SF

  • I went on holiday to cornwall (St Ives) and by chance Eddi was playing down the road from where I weas staying.

Now, though primarily a metal head, i like other music, but this woman, blew me away, i was astounded by her beauty and the strength of her song. God bless her, And may she make music for many years

  • I love this song. Reminds me of traveling in Scotland in the early 90s.

  • I bought the CD right after hearing this song.

  • Eddi, a Scottish angel.

    Thank you Eddi.

  • from Eddi w/ the voice of an angel

  • A scottish singer touring Wales introduced me to Eddie Reader and Bryan Kennedy, absolutely amazing , and listen to both everyday.. Thanks Ian....

  • Fantastic Song! Such A Beautiful Woman With A Beautiful Voice! This Song is The Essence Of Beauty. Thank You For Uploading!

  • Der schönste Eddie-Reader-Song ever!

  • Love Eddi <3

  • I've seen her pants, but th@'s enough about her breathing. Excellent song lyrics girl.

    kk

  • Love everything about this song..Eddi has a fantastic voice and the musical arrangement is brilliant !!!!

  • wonderful...

  • beautiful

  • wonderful lyrics....... beautifully sung :)

  • Her voice is just brilliant to listen to ,what a gift she has

  • I love this song and the way Eddie sings it is sublime.

  • finally!! now i know who sang this beautiful song. was eddi the singer of fairground attraction?

  • That is correct, she was.

  • thanx. i also like her song titled "perfect" . i was kinda imagining marlyn monroe singing it but it's ok. she's pretty too.

  • top tune

  • How gorgeous is this? Thank you for posting it, you've got great taste!

  • elegant, sweet and materfully sung.... what a voice. going to see her perform in Glasgow this weekend. my partner is as patient as an angel... throughout mty troubled life.

  • Nearly 9 years ago I woke up with a horrible hangover at about 6 in the morning, this was playing on the local radio station, on a loop over and over...and I realised that I was a dad and life had changed forever.

  • Lovely Pete - mine was Everybody hurts ( 14 hour labour with complications) all OK in the end - life changed for ever and for the better - but man what a song for the occassion.DT.

  • For the better is right. Funny tho, when I got back from visiting at the hospital the house was flooded, a pipe had split in the roof space, but I couldnt have cared less...

  • makes me proud to be scottish

  • @munch198 Makes me proud to be Scottish too.Truly great singer.

  • An English man wrote this song....so does that now make you proud to be British?

When you think about it, being Scottish isn't actually an achievement. You don't have to do anything to be Scottish do you? I mean, all I did was flop out of my mother's fanny and discover that I happened to be in a geographical location called Scotland.

My advice is to achieve something to be proud of yourself rather than coat-tailing someone else who happens to come from the same country.

  • @smrndoff you are very rude and clearly male

  • @smrndoff

you may have issues about being Scottish... and what it represents.. however being disrespectful to how you came into the world is another issue...grow up ! when you can understand the use of appropriate language ..only then can you say you are scottish , proud and respectful of women.....

  • @munch198

Makes me proud that my ancestors were.

  • ive always loved this woman voice!, she is great, want to hear a lot more of her!!! xx

  • Theres a door, in a wall, in a house, in a street, in a town, where nobody knows her name.....

  • Makes me come over all Ahhhhh...... beautiful...

  • wow, fantastic...

  • Beautiful singer... beautiful voice!!

In a word.... LOVELY! Thank you!

  • every so often i remember this song and come back to it. its so lovely, i'd love to hear her sing it live.

  • what a voice. what a song.

  • Eddi is magic as a performer, but for those that don't know, look up Boo Hewerdines performance. He writes most of her songs and is a really sweet singer, a quiet power to his voice. In fact, I prefer him singing this. All the same...Eddi is magic!

  • Astonished this wasn't a bigger hit!

    Great 90's song regardless

  • I heard this song today for the first time at my gym and loved it. somehow it reminds of the song "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" from The Hollies

  • this song is amazing, never get bored of hearing it, it always reminds me of some of the belting songs of the 90's

  • just saw her in Edinburgh - voice still fantastic - her interpretation of lyrics and the songs is just phenomenonal and heart wrenching!

the new album (march 2009) is just fab - back to her fairground attraction early solo album stuff - brilliant!

  • Saw her at the Sage, Gateshead, on Friday!

Boo Herwerdine on guitar, drummer from Fairground attraction, and Martha Wainwright as support.

Fantastic gig... and she's still gorgeous!

  • she's touring this year. keep your eyes open peeps :) XxX

  • Words to comment would never do this justice...so...

    :-)

  • help this artist, pay money for her art.

  • i love this song so much, but i can never find the lyrics for it! does anyone have them?

  • have you tried lyricfreak?

  • thanks, i've found them now though, a friend sent me them

  • Such a great voice and an under-rated song too. Should have done so much better in the charts. Would be great to see a live version of this. I remember her singing it live at the BRIT awards the year she won Best British Female, the clip was on here a while back but disappeared

  • love her voice an songs dosnt get enough credit for her wonderful talent.

  • I love that she kept her glasses on and didn't go with contacts. This song has picked me up many times.

  • Good on Ya Quietly Does it!...I woke up to this song on the morning after my first child was born, or rather, the song woke me up on the radio I had left playing...me with hangover...And at THAT very moment..I grew up, I was Dad...

  • trovo formidabile questa voce e questa donna... e le emozioni che provo nell'ascoltarla non si modificano in intensità, mai...

  • sono daccordo con te cara pz0973. Ciao da Giancarlo.

  • I always thought this song was about a young mother living away from home with nobody to help her bring up her children and the heroic struggle that girls and women in that situation go through every day just to survive. Hence: the patience of angels. As a man I take my hat off to those girls, each and every one.

  • @Quietlydoesit

Why thank you , what a nice comment .

  • Eddi is a Glasgow girl with the voice of an angel.

  • beautiful voice, takes me somewhere else...

  • IN MY CAVAERVAN .94 MAY

    TJ

  • eddie is just a brilliant singer and writer saw her a while ago just brilliant great voice. very cool indeed

  • This is the best song and video back in 1994

sad story but hope is the last thing to gave up on

  • For my money Eddi is the best female singer on our little planet

  • What is the story being told in this song?

  • The storys about a boy who died young and a gril in a town that is lonley but honest and wonderfull

  • I take it the boy who died prematurely was her boyfriend/husband? It becomes clear now. I thought it was maybe about someone with depression. "something's wrong, when the morning hurts your eyes".

  • I remember hearing this song while thrift store shopping at High Street Kensington, my first time out of the country, thinking I was so cool... I came back to the States, found the album and I think I listened to it constantly for months. What memories!

  • Marvellous

  • Brilliant.

  • beautiful song

  • A stunning evocative song.

  • Great song - if I could sing I would re-release it...

  • beautiful song and voice

  • I love this song! I just posted a cover of it on my channel - used to play it when I was busking, it was always a crowd-pleaser!

  • great song rubbish video

  • Spooky connection I never saw before. My surname is Hewerdine and my grandad Hewerdine used to be the conductor on the 73 bus through London - which is the bus Eddie is riding through London.

  • Eddie you are a celtic godess why on earth did you go to London of all places to film this? What's wrong with bonnie scotland?

  • Because London would try the patience of any angel! LOL

  • Ah calm ye doon ye wee hen. The lass clearly fancied a trip ootside a Bonnie Prince Charles' country (bonnie Scotland)fer a wee change, ye ken?. This is a lovely wee tune though, aye.

  • this is my favourite song of all songs i think i love her pure simplistic sound better than any pitch corrected rubbish we hear now

  • beautiful

  • eddi reader done a great song with stuart adamson re release it !!! 4 stuart !!fragile thing

  • The most natural purest voice anywhere!!!!!!

  • just great!!

  • great song her best i think

  • its been along time and i have this album on vinyl hence ive not heard it for a few years. only 37 how shocking is that?

  • Boo Hewerdine, genius. I miss the Crystal Palace vid since it got pulled.

  • Brilliant song and good video, but she's Scottish like me and would be nice if it had been filmed in Glasgow.

  • fanstastic song saw Eddie Reader play this at the Waterfront in Norwich. She fell off the stage got back on and carried on with the song. Real Professionalism.

  • bad eyeglasses. what's up with that?

  • beautiful song

  • this song is so amazing such a lovely song to sing along to

  • Calming peacefull song the video reminds me off slash East and North london in the 93-95 era.

  • Amazing woman! I <3 this song!
