my late mother had a saying (about me and some of her other fifteen children) "you could try the patience of a saint" we still grieve thirty four years later, Eddie captures the love coupled with the difficulties of parenthood
I went on holiday to cornwall (St Ives) and by chance Eddi was playing down the road from where I weas staying.
Now, though primarily a metal head, i like other music, but this woman, blew me away, i was astounded by her beauty and the strength of her song. God bless her, And may she make music for many years
elegant, sweet and materfully sung.... what a voice. going to see her perform in Glasgow this weekend. my partner is as patient as an angel... throughout mty troubled life.
Nearly 9 years ago I woke up with a horrible hangover at about 6 in the morning, this was playing on the local radio station, on a loop over and over...and I realised that I was a dad and life had changed forever.
Lovely Pete - mine was Everybody hurts ( 14 hour labour with complications) all OK in the end - life changed for ever and for the better - but man what a song for the occassion.DT.
For the better is right. Funny tho, when I got back from visiting at the hospital the house was flooded, a pipe had split in the roof space, but I couldnt have cared less...
An English man wrote this song....so does that now make you proud to be British?
When you think about it, being Scottish isn't actually an achievement. You don't have to do anything to be Scottish do you? I mean, all I did was flop out of my mother's fanny and discover that I happened to be in a geographical location called Scotland.
My advice is to achieve something to be proud of yourself rather than coat-tailing someone else who happens to come from the same country.
you may have issues about being Scottish... and what it represents.. however being disrespectful to how you came into the world is another issue...grow up ! when you can understand the use of appropriate language ..only then can you say you are scottish , proud and respectful of women.....
Eddi is magic as a performer, but for those that don't know, look up Boo Hewerdines performance. He writes most of her songs and is a really sweet singer, a quiet power to his voice. In fact, I prefer him singing this. All the same...Eddi is magic!
Such a great voice and an under-rated song too. Should have done so much better in the charts. Would be great to see a live version of this. I remember her singing it live at the BRIT awards the year she won Best British Female, the clip was on here a while back but disappeared
Good on Ya Quietly Does it!...I woke up to this song on the morning after my first child was born, or rather, the song woke me up on the radio I had left playing...me with hangover...And at THAT very moment..I grew up, I was Dad...
I always thought this song was about a young mother living away from home with nobody to help her bring up her children and the heroic struggle that girls and women in that situation go through every day just to survive. Hence: the patience of angels. As a man I take my hat off to those girls, each and every one.
I take it the boy who died prematurely was her boyfriend/husband? It becomes clear now. I thought it was maybe about someone with depression. "something's wrong, when the morning hurts your eyes".
I remember hearing this song while thrift store shopping at High Street Kensington, my first time out of the country, thinking I was so cool... I came back to the States, found the album and I think I listened to it constantly for months. What memories!
Spooky connection I never saw before. My surname is Hewerdine and my grandad Hewerdine used to be the conductor on the 73 bus through London - which is the bus Eddie is riding through London.
Ah calm ye doon ye wee hen. The lass clearly fancied a trip ootside a Bonnie Prince Charles' country (bonnie Scotland)fer a wee change, ye ken?. This is a lovely wee tune though, aye.
fanstastic song saw Eddie Reader play this at the Waterfront in Norwich. She fell off the stage got back on and carried on with the song. Real Professionalism.
Makes me proud to be BRITISH.
