  • His renditions of Bruckner last symphonies (7,8,9th) are among the greatest performances, endless in details but with an awesome sense for the whole.

    There are surely many of his students around the world but in my knowledge none of them has reached the highest level as performer as the pianist Juan Jose CHUQUISENGO, with amazing recordings by Sony Classical of Ravel, Bach, Schumann, Prokofiev - a young Celibidache on the piano?

  • I have seen this documentary on French television and was enthralled by it. I disagree with some comments posted here. All worthy musicians have strong positions on the music they direct. So had Celidibache. Most important is how does his interpretation of Bruckner or Beethoven or any other composer's music help us elevate ourselves to attain the Sublime. The same for Celi's musicians in this video. That is probably what he meant. He was a teacher, not a Gourou.

  • A last detail : he is not the only one who do music but there is greateat musician conductor than him when he was in life : Horensteinn or Barbirolli for exemple. And they don't need to be arrogant and megalomaniac to be great!

  • @martivarlint -are you a musician or a conductor? because if you are,you should have known better!what you say about the school of sound has no relevance in this particular situation-Beethoven rote in a brilliant matter and he didn't do it after "The '50's".You cannot ignore the rest of the components of music just for the sake of accurate propagated sound-your concert hall,like the one from Berlin for example,engineered in a certain fashion for the clarity of sound,will do most of the trick.

  • This video reveal a great "gourou", paranoid and egocentric person. I like very much some of his interpretations but when we hear him talking : it's really " I am the only one who do music and play in a good tempo". Music is not only tempo Mr. The Great Celi! In fact, he is a very great manipulator and intelligent to use some story to create a legend of him. I am sorry but his tempo conception is completly exagerated.

  • Man...what can I say to you...The tempo is the engine of music and then comes the rest to complete it: thematic,metric and character.You know why he is right?Because every musician has a style to approach the music but in an orchestra they have to feel each-other,listen to each-other,be as one body to express an idea and that is hard work my friend.Is not enough to be an excellent executant.You have to detach yourself,anticipate the whole picture while playing your part.

  • @meshelle2 you are wrong when you say that tempo is the engine of music, do you know that conductors like Furtwangler, Klemperer, Celibidache do not set a specific tempo like conductors want to do mainly now after the 50s? the sound sets the tempo, it is call School of sound, when the musicians work really hard to get a strong and proyectable sound in any instrument but mainly in human voices. The instrumentalists copy the human voice and not the oposite as in this era.
