The individual mandate is a CONSERVATIVE principle. Why have they abandoned it? Why should society have to pay when that 25 year old has a car accident when they could have just had health insurance in the first place?
These Republicans keep hiding behind the assumption that people don't want health care...ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Have you seen what 25 y/o people do with their time? they get drunk and light fireworks on their face and then upload the video to youtube. And when they end up in the hospital, all us sensible 25 y/o who actually want health care and need it, but can't afford it, have to give up tax money to the ERs that have to treat those idiots that "don't want health care." What about us?

Where are the Republicans bitching about the F-22 Raptor? In fact they only bitched when the program was canceled. $220 million dollars a plane times 189 planes that will most likely never be used in combat. How's that for wasteful spending and don't even get me started about the 14 super carriers and ballistic missile submarines that are still floating around out there. How many hundeds of billions of dollars a year are spent on weapons that have no purpose?
If the American people can fund death and war, they can fund life and health. The British understood this, the Canadians understood this and the Scandinavians understood this simple principle. Hence longer and cheaper lifespans. Get real America, you can do this if you want to.
issa and kingston are lying sacks of shits..they always say they would do certain things that sound reasonable, like vote for sotomayer, but only because they didnt have a vote. they are nothing but lying shills for the corporations
the reasons the senate was given the constitutional power to elect the supreme court was because it was appointed by the elected state officials. now its just political shenanigans.
if idiots want to give themselfs pills then let them die... this country is stupid because the population isnt allowed to get hurt and learn from it... i hate pharma because i dont take any pills yet they bribe my government, but at least they are killing their own supporters... if i kill a republican its illegal, if pills do it, its an accident
Hopefully Maher learned his lesson and never booked those two boring morons again. Jesus. BORING!!! Even Maher couldn't breathe life into that stiff panel.
Their arguement regarding achieving a healthcare system the equal of Frances (and most other core EU states) by saying they need MORE competition. These countries have government controlled Healthcare Systems funded out of the general 'tax pool' and use that monopoly power to bargain the costs of drugs etc down. The private health companies actually end up costing the tax payer more because despite the fancy slogans when they fuck up an operation the patient go's straight to an NHS ICU
@RedNProud Exactly! Actually, Canada isn't completly free of private clinics. I for one went in one for a knee problem after a soccer injury. The physician just took a basic X-ray with a fluorescent injection and said you're ok, it's just a sprained ligament. Well, my problem was a completly sectioned cruciate ligament (I could hardly walk and I was 24 years old). Guess what? I ended-up in a PUBLIC hospital for surgery and three months of physiotherapy !
Im American and love the U.S. but how come their are so many ignorant people that talk so stupidly about this healthcare reform. We are not a true capitalist society because if we were it would be like the 1920's when people were slaves to the wealthy and society really was terrible. Using fear spreads alot of ignorance and many americans are believing this bull shit. We need the public option and hopefully universal healthcare.
I agree on the health care , but when 1% own more then 95% of the population combined that sucks . Man I am looking forward to Michael Moores New Movie, Capitalism: A Love Story .
We need nothing less then universal health care or single payer , why should health be so profitable ? People are protesting the wrong things , Obama so far has been a let down , I am a Liberal .
The G20 Protest and fascist response worries me , listing to police bands most were imported Pigs . Brutal actions !
I'd like to know how Darrell Issa just said, the Government & Federal Employees have these great Health Care plans that the government pays 70% of it. Then he says, he wants that same care & system to be available to every American.
Ok sign me up for that!!!
But in what universe is Darrell from that the Government's gonna pay 70% of every private citizens healthcare plan?
Seriously if my plan is $200 per month that means the Gov will pay $140 of it. Yeah Right!!
Hey Rep. IIssa since youtube or HBO didnt stip this epidsode down like they do for all the other realtime episodes , could you post every realtime your self, whether your on it or not. thanks
he loves his good looking self. Issa is a bullshitter. he is a hired gun to corrupted corporation. he vouch for big oil company. unbelievable that he is from california. bill maher, go get him!
what kind of an idiot would not buy Healthcare? Wishing that you will not get sick is all well and good, but you are still gonna get sick and injured. I live in Canada and support my socialized (gasp!) health sysem
I'm going to say something that I don't believe I've ever said before re: Bill Maher. That was a great discussion. After we got past the obligatory race card, anyway. I'm no bigot, didn't vote for him. My dad is a huge bigot, and did vote for him. Deal with that little reality.
You're suggesting that I 'should' have voted for him, just because he's black? That sounds a lot like affirmative action for presidents, chissiez1. Console yourself w/ the fact I can't stand Pelosi, Reid, Ayers, Waxman, Boxer - you know, any of the white trash up there running the Democratic party into the ground. Or don't.
H.R. 3438, The Access to Insurance for all Americans Act , what am I missing , this sounds Great to me , I am a Democrat , we do not have even close to these types of Republicans in Texas , they are all blood sucking shape shifting reptilians . This sounds Great H.R. 3438, The Access to Insurance for all Americans Act. , the same all those we elect have , Sounds good to me .
I really think that a strong opposition is important to democracy as well as diverse opinons - including those on the right. But these republicans are just misinterpreting facts and lying. This is not what governance should be. Education is so key instead of spreading this crap.
Kingston is a banjo-mouthed liar... twang twang B.S.
Issa constantly contradicts himself.
According to these two spin doctors, Canada spends 1/4 less than we do and France's public/private hybrid healthcare system costs 1/2 what the U.S. spends -- look what we get! Insurance companies are rich from dropping the sick and denying care. REFORM!
People are freaked out that their taxes will go up. Think about it this way: NO MORE INSURANCE PREMIUMS that go up every year.
Also, since we know that Washington is a side show most of the time, where anything can and will be said by both parties to advance their real agenda, we have to be skeptical that any plan that starts out as not universal healthcare, will create incentives to basically force such a system in the future.
Will the govt. public option run private insurers out of business and we'll get the universal care, with longer lines and worse care. Could happen, since the govt. is immune from market forces, and their plan can operate at a loss if they want it to.
Obviously there won't be actual death panels, but the effect may still be there. Obama's doc and Maher talk positively about Medicare, but Medicare and Social Security are going bankrupt, so a program like those, regardless of effectiveness I don't see as economically worthwhile. So, either, we'll take care of everyone and go bankrupt, or the payers ( the govt.) will decide who gets what treatment, and that might as well be a "death panel."
The problem will continue to lay where it does today: People will refuse to take and abide by the advice their health care providers give them. What is Obamacare going to do differently? Outlaw Mcdonalds and cigarettes? Give everyone a free gym membership? Give me a break. The government will be just as persuasive in curbing our eating habits as the doctors have been, and there will be no money "saved" with this plan. By the way, Obama's choice for surgeon general was an adviser for Burger King.
This is the reason people fear a government take-over of health care. People like Bill Maher and Ariana Huffington giving us their opinion on how to treat patiens. On what basis? Doctors go to school for years and years taking hard classes that not just anyone can take and pass in order to be qualified to render their medical opinion. It is absurd to believe that doctors these days do not counsel their patients on things like weight and nutrition as well as a wide range of preventative topics.
I am a Democrat , this is a great Idea , Bush is gone , lets try and get over him !

all of our closest western allies have national healthcare programs that doesn't let anyone loose their house or life because they don't have heal care
u.s. can afford a national healthcare, if americans demanded an efficient government and a lower defense, cia, secret programs / etc. budgets
@kirtokosseamrica The reason the rest of 'the West' has national healthcare is because it is single-payer/govt run. Even Issa was saying that that's the way to go, and that it would pretty lead to a 30% trim on US healthcare spending overnight. While I'm glad he was/is putting forth a bill like that, it seems to me that very, VERY few Americans would ever go for something like that because of silly ideological prejudices. You can make it tiered later, but single-payer has to be the first step
@Relbl The battle-cry of "socialism" right now is incredibly annoying to my ears. Even if we turned health care into a fully socialized structure (which two nurses have already told me we should do btw) that doesn't mean our country automatically becomes the Union of Socialst States of America. A good idea is a good idea I don't care who thought of it first.
