Hello Mike, I recently purchased your CD on CD Baby. Your skills are impressive and your playing belies a sensitive soul. It really comes through. I am very impressed.
Your arrangement of the Joplin piece has really captured my imagination these last two weeks.
I was wondering if you've finished the standard notation of Solace. I would love to buy a copy from you and make it my undertaking over the next few years to really learn it. You've inspired me.
Hi Mike congratulations!! You're a very good player, thank you for your performance. Sorry for my English - I'm form Italy - and long live Joplin music. Bye!!
Hello Mike, your playing has brought pleasure and joy, and taken me right back to that sorely missed 'warm and fuzzy' place from childhood - thank you - Adriana
Really nice. I always thought Scott Joplin was closer to classical European music than to jazz, and that his music fits a Spanish guitar exceptionally well. And it seems particularly logical for this "Mexican Serenade" with the habanera rhythm.
I wish you had done the other sections also. This is my favorite Scott Joplin tune.
Say, I'm a filmmaker from Minnesota, and I have been looking for a good end-credits song for this very serious film I've been working on. Do I have your permission to use this recording?
As an expert on Scott Joplin, this is the best arrangement for Solace that I have heard for the guitar. Your recordings are great too, which makes it so much easier to listen to.
Wow... very nice. I would love to hear you play the entire piece... You know that I... and several hundred other guitarists are copying your arrangement! The Ultimate Compliment!!
Your arrangement is careful but your performance is truly artful. You should perform the repeats. I want more. Your attention to dynamics and phrasing is right on.
I was listening to "the Sting" number on my pc and realized I always wanted to try my own version, so I rambled here for some ideas. I'm so lucky to have met this. I'm sure it sounds exactly like the thing I want to do. Thanks for this nice work.
Nice, I have a cool guitar version I will try and get up in about 2 or 3 weeks, it will have a different phrasing. I really like your version. profpopsicle
Thanks, Mike—this made my day. I am an amateur pianist, and feel your arrangement really serves the Joplin by emphasizing the natural "Spanish" flavor of the piece and presenting it in a softer light.
Great stuff, Mike. I'm just learning (a different version of) Solace myself, might switch to yours though. Any chance of the first 2 sections as well? Be interesting to see what you do with them.
M.Nelson...this is simply lovely...Haunting. Wonderful wonderful work. Thanks, so much, for sharing this. Are you familiar with William Balcom's 'The Graceful Ghost'? It'd be a knuckle buster but you may be the man to transpose it to guitar. It, too, is a lovely piece and worthy of your attention. Thanks again.
You know, this is quite amazing, and I'll tell you why: not even ten minutes ago, I was listening to this song in the car thinking that it would sound great on classical guitar.
I couldn't do a better job if I tried. Sounds fantastic, man.
God bless you man.
I could never in million years express my thanks to you......
