As much as I dislike the Wings because they took so many big names from other teams, like Hull, Shanahan, Chelios, Vernon and Hasek, I have to admit this: Claude Lemieux is the biggest jerk in hockey, and this is a beautiful testament to the teamwork that was used to exact revenge for his cheapshot. I'm not a fan of violence, but I applaud McCarty for putting Lemieux out. This rivalry also put some more spark into the NHL.

Detroit has maintained the strong play, while Colorado has not. Detroit still has several players from this game, despite Yzerman retiring and Shanny leaving. I think Colorado only has Sakic. Roy, Forsberg, Foote, Drury, Ricci are gone from Colorado. That is why the rivalry has deflated, Colorado was not as dominate as Detroit. Colorado did have a large off-season, but saying that, Go Wings!

As much as I dislike the Wings because they took so many big names from other teams, like Hull, Shanahan, Chelios, Vernon and Hasek, I have to admit this: Claude Lemieux is the biggest jerk in hockey, and this is a beautiful testament to the teamwork that was used to exact revenge for his cheapshot. I'm not a fan of violence, but I applaud McCarty for putting Lemieux out. This rivalry also put some more spark into the NHL.

Detroit has maintained the strong play, while Colorado has not. Detroit still has several players from this game, despite Yzerman retiring and Shanny leaving. I think Colorado only has Sakic. Roy, Forsberg, Foote, Drury, Ricci are gone from Colorado. That is why the rivalry has deflated, Colorado was not as dominate as Detroit. Colorado did have a large off-season, but saying that, Go Wings!

I defer to my previous answer. Lemieux saw it coming and should have anticipated it. Lemiuex didn't finish his check - he boarde Draper head first into the boards, which required reconstructive surgery of his jaw and nose. Boarding is not only penalized, it is dangerous and suspendible. You are sadly warped in your sense of "fair play".
