The gov't budget is not like a household budget. The fed gov't debt is exactly equal to the net financial assets (ie bonds/cash) held by non-gov't entities. If you want to reduce the US debt, then you're saying you want to destroy some of those private assets.

The only problem that can arise from too much deficit spending is inflation; it's not a concern given our current unemployment situation.

I agree w/ Ron on stopping wars, but his econ is just plain looney.

The sad truth is that Dr. Paul has has 0 effect in Washington. Nothing (or VERY little at best) he has proposed has passed. His biggest mistake was running as a Repub because they will NEVER nominate him as he is not a TRUE Rep. He is a Libritarian pretending to be a GOP member. He would do better running as a true Lib or just stop running and become an activist like Nader.

@thenewmike2012 It's not a mistake at all for Ron Paul to run for the Republican nomination... it's the best thing he could possibly do. If not nominated, he will certainly run as a third-party candidate, and with a TON of momentum too. He's gained so much attention world-wide by competing in the Republican debates which he's used to convey the Libertarian message successfully. Competing in the primaries has proven that he IS electable. He can no longer be ignored.

@usexoticsltd I disagree. The GOP will NEVER nominate Dr. Paul. They simply cant. His notion of pulling ALL of our troops out from around the world, alone, makes him a deal breaker for them. This is Dr. Pauls' 3rd bid now and he has never made it to a general election. His positions havent changed so why would his results be any different this time around? Also, Dr. Paul is now 76 yrs old. His age AND ideas are too old for these modern and dangerous times.

@thenewmike2012 Like you, I doubt they'll allow him to become the nominee, and I'm not concerned about that. He's used their platform and has gained support because of it. Those supporters will follow him, regardless of his party affiliation. You say this is his 3rd run and ask why this would end any differently? The entire WORLD has changed... for the worse, and people have changed in response. The sheep are awakening from their slumber. And liberty is NOT an old idea.

Think about it, if we had to pay 5% a year on our debt it would cost us $800 billion a year. That's almost half of all the revenue we take in. Therefore, if rates ONLY go up 3% we are completely insolvent and would have to cut spending by 75% or more.
