I am thinking of getting one but i need to no more about them ino they need a heat mat but do they really need lighting are they like leopard geckos?? and also can play sand be used as there flooring or does it have to be "reptile sand" ??????????????????
We have a male tokay. He is gorgeous but I don't find them to be easy to interact with unless you sit and watch them in a pitch back room. It depends on what you want, do you want to be able to hold the gecko or just view it? We have kept Leopard Geckos, Dwarf Sand Geckos, Tokay Geckos & a Madagascan Giant Day Gecko. The Day Gecko and the Dwarf Sand Geckos are my favourite because they are very active.
@XxSweetfruitcakexX Wanted a tokay for a challenge haha!.. But kinda want something smaller, probably going to get a dwarf sand gecko.. do they need UV?
Haha, yeah but they are pretty damn scary lmao. We've never picked ours up because he is really big. It would prob be easier to pick them up if they only a baby lol, not as scary.
Yes even though they are nocturnal I would recommend UV because they do come out a bit during the day but they are not as active as they are at night.
Only thing about them is that they need a lot of sand but we just buy play sand and then we bake it and then seive it.
It's a male & female and they cost £30 for them together & then we temporarily had them in a 30x30 exo terra which cost £20 but now they are in an exo terra which is a lot bigger. Then they have a heat bulb during the day and a heat mat on a night and then we've got them a compact top with uv bulb in it.
Dwarf Sand Geckos stalk each other on a night, they chirp and do a lot of tail waving and wriggling but it is never usually because of aggression. Also males can be kept together which can be a bonus.
Giant Madagascan Day Geckos are also very interesting and they are active during the day. They are quite elegant and lovely geckos to look at but they can't be handled because they had delicate skin which can be ripped if it is touched.

We got ours for 15 pound each and also we use play sand that we bought from bnq, it just doesn't look as nice as reptile sand.

Thanks, would you recommend one of these, a tokay, house gecko or some other kind of gecko.
