thanks this is really helpful.had a woodpecker in the garden today and this has helped me idntify it as the Greater spotted;othersites not nearly so helpful.excellent video.

@megzroks, Great Spotted Woodpeckers are almost double the size of Lesser Spotteds. A Lesser Spotted is actually the size of a House Sparrow or Chaffinch - a tiny woodpecker, indeed.

This is lovely! How big would you say the lesser spotted woodpecker is than the great spotted woodpecker? Are they the same size?
