  • how every that became higher ground.

  • gotta love that young stevie voice!!

  • Stevie never fails. This guy is so competent -- I never heard him miss a note in my life. Marvelous talent.

  • I know this song through Janelle Monae's version. The first rendition of a standard you hear may always be the best in your memory, but I think hers is uncomparable to the rest, from Nat King Cole's original to Michael Jackson's, which compete for cheesiness. Janelle takes the tempo out of this song, to keep the fantastic melody and the emotions that Chaplin has undoubtably put into it.

This notwithstanding Stevie Wonder is one of the greatest musicians and voices of all time.

  • !!! O M G.. Realmente hermosa voz, inconfundible, puro sentiminento hecho cancion !!!...Sólo comparable con otras magistrales versiones de Frank Sinatra y la conmovedora version de Michael Jackson ---!!!1

  • @silentshout1 they only say that shit cause he dead!!!

  • Che voce, inconfondibile..

  • Nat King cole's version is best in my opinion, but i love s.w.'s version too, what a wonderfull voice

  • Christina Aguilera version is epic

  • Andere singen diesen Titel angenehmer, obwohl ich Stevie Wonder mag!

    Gefällt mir nicht!

  • "X version is better then Y version"

    common people..thats just stupid.

  • IMO Micheal is alot better than this, Bit disapointed really at this version from Stevie.

    Off to play MJ

  • this deserves more views

  • @silentshout1 You cannot compare these artist of who sung it better cause when they recorded this i'm pretty damn sure that's not what they were thinking when they recorded it many peop;e have sung this sung and they were all good. But I do understand you have your own opinion.

  • @silentshout1 well, i love stevie but i do think michael's version is better..

  • I'm not getting into who sings this better. Each artist who's covered it has brought something to the lyrics.SW's rendition has it's own appeal,& I reckon he was quite young when he recorded this, almost like a blossoming teenager! Soulful & uplifting!

  • nat king cole's version is the best version of this wonderful song

  • how about kudos to the great actor, Charlie Chaplin, for composing this oft recorded classic

  • @silentshout1 Yea I don't either, I have to put Timi Yuro's version above MJ's and then this one above it too. Then there's the Nat King Cole version. Robert Downey Jr also does a nice jazzy version of the song, it's one of my favorite's.

*Don't get me wrong, MJ's is pretty awesome too, but this is a pretty popular song to cover.

  • Wow he sounded exactly like Frankie Lymon, that's crazy.

  • Hmmm there he was 13 years old.:)

  • Bardzo fajnie , ale MJ śpiewał to lepiej :)

  • tears... all down my face with a smile

  • hmm.thanks for this Seven :D

  • @dieselskyy welcome bro

  • Love Stevie....but Nat King Cole breathes life into this song.

  • shit i hope real talent like this will come around once in my life time

  • @beware57 Check out Janelle Monae. :) She gives me hope

  • Everyone has a right to their own opinion. Respect it and move on.

  • Lets remember how old stevie was when he made this song...and Janelle monae's version is incredible. That made me an instant fan.

  • 2 people are idiots!

  • Im just happy to hear his music .

  • Connie Talbot does an awesome job with this song; see my comments on it and you will see some examples of why.

  • @silentshout1 MJ's version is just as good :/

  • All these versions are bad. The song needs MORE discipline.

  • I really like Judy Garland's cover of this song.

  • @silentshout1 I love Mike but he doesn't

  • Janelle Monae Version Is Better!!!

  • @Dummiemissiontv i wish the album version was on YOUTUBEE!

  • @Dummiemissiontv Well Janelle performed a great rendtion of Smile in Hoxton and at KOKO in London last year, but I think less is more with this song, so hopefully in future she will not over embellish it as she did in her 'Billboard' version. Stevie's verson has a magical quality of innocence, because of how young he was when he recoreded it. Its beautful!

  • @Dummiemissiontv Who cares. Obviously plenty of versions are. He is 13. By the way, Nat King Cole has the best version of this song anyways.

  • @Dummiemissiontv Hi, I am Luis Moya from Mexico. I have always admired Stevie Wonder since i was 15 or so (I am now 59). I just heard Janelle Monae´s version and I really liked, but i still like Stevie´s version, cause i think he is a master of singing, composing and performing. By the way my friend, what about Michael Jackson´s version? That is one of the best interpretations I have ever heard. My salute and my respect to you

  • i second that statement.. this is way much better.. i think Michael's orchestration was better... this had a big band swing too it...

  • where can i buy this mp3?

  • wow, i've never heard his version before. i like it!

i do like michael's version better (lol)

but don't get me wrong, this is still GREAT! :)

  • @ilOvesmiChaeljaCksOn

Yea Michael does the Charlie Chaplin song the best. But this really aint bad. The Boy Stevie Wonder was cool. (still is)

  • @Fizzypop1211 yeah, i agree! i love me some stevie! lol

  • who else sang this song? (other than Stevie and Michael, of course)

  • @EllenCullen831 barbra streisand && charlie chaplin. It's Charlie Chaplin's song. Yes, that's it! I believe it's his song! But they song it also lol

  • @EllenCullen831 Nat king Cole did this

  • @EllenCullen831

originally the song, written by Charlie Chaplin for the film Modern Times was sung by Nat King Cole, and charted in 1954.

Since then, anyone with taste and style has tried to measure up to this classic.

  • Wait a second... how old is Stevie on this record?!

  • @LawrenceBean11 13, or possibly 12

  • @LawrenceBean11 I'm not sure, but he sure is singing high. lol

  • I'm not crazy about this arrangment, but Stevie's voice is on point as usual.

  • Thanks Johnnie

  • One of the most accomplished popular singers of all time showing prodigious talent at such a young age. Stevie had true mastery of the instrument that was his voice. IMHO, Michael's mature period version of this song is but a pale shadow in comparison to the richness presented here.

  • @saturnaspider

    true but michaels is sad

  • Love it !!! but michael is better

  • I think that Mike put a little more passion into it being that it was like his all time favorite song. Just a standard to most other singers.

  • @CarmeliniLizzy Stevie Wonder & Rick James are my idols,so it pains me 2 agree with you on this.

  • Beautiful just beautiful

  • Lindo!

  • bravo

  • I love this version and Nat King Cole's version too:)

  • ....giovanissimo Stevie! in un brano indimenticabile.
