This captures the exact moment in time where John Lydon quit making interesting music. From this point on all has been shit, from this moment back it was all interesting and thought went into it.
people are puzaling creachers, the thing that puzzles me the most is how puzzaling it realy is that people like difrent things for difrent reasons and is the case with music, the truth is u may never understand that is unless u happen to like something some one doesn't which im shore u do, there is no right nor wrong wen it comes to the senses. i like this, but they have preformed it better this is't the best performance of the song,...
the original on the first album is mind blowing.the big venue combined with the loss of two of the three song writers makes the song loose it's urgency.
how anyone can think this song is 'exploiting' anneliese michel is beyond me. john lydon clearly found the fact that she was allowed to starve to death to be disgusting.
i think the final set of lyrics
'annalisa had no escape
starved to death in a waiting room
cheap concern and rosary beads
did not solve screaming needs'
show pretty plainly what he thinks of the whole thing.
it's not unusual that he would have heard about this--i read about this when i was in my teens.
I agree. Exploitation is what all life forms do. Humans are great at it. Exploitation (deriving a benefit from a tragedy, puting something bad to good use)is only undesireable if it diverts energy away from fixing a more important problem, or worsens the problem. John lydon and his fans are neither willing nor capable of creating or encouraging more tragedies to comment on. This is not a matter of "frame of reference" but of simple common sense.
....No question -- the most brilliant stage performance ever recorded....Shakespearean at least!....Kurt modeled every creepy moment on these icons, these monographs of transcendent originality....Like Hendrix, but with no guitar, only a wailing soul...
......The most commanding stage presence ever birthed......More originality than Jesus his own self!.....Too bad Kurt never covered this jewel....."Like raving DOGS!..."
Lukazade97, I just find it odd that an 80s band would be like references to this case. But maybe the lead singer had heard of what happened, and he wanted to make a song about it. But still, do you think people in the crowd knew who he was talking about? No..they didn't. They didn't know if he was talking about someone he knew or what, they didn't even care. It's just crazy in my opinion, he should have said something before making this song.
hlann04, this song most certainly was written about Anneliese Michel, and whether or not it is exploitation ultimately depends on your frame of reference I suppose, but personally I think that even though the 'live in tokyo' line up of PiL is a couple of flickering embers of what PiL once was, this is a fairly spirited and emotional performance, and I dont see him headbanging really, just dancing around and acting the maggot, which is what John always does.
Is this song really about Anneleise Michel? If it is, which I doubt, why are they headbanging to a song describing all the terror the poor woman went through? I mean, isn't that exploitation? Smack me if I'm wrong..
it's a song about a topic. it isn't cruel. and i think it's making some strong and valid points about certain subjects.
all the news people all read is cruel. actually i loathe the news, and i'd rather listen to music and read lyrics instead.
i'd prefer to get my news from someone like John Lydon, than any journalist. :D and his views and opinions are fascinating, and i tend to agree with a lot of them..which helps..of course...
Why should I have something against it. This song doesn't publicize her private life, pictures etc... Well yes, it's a cruel song but i kinda like it.
