OMG I recently played Red Dead for the first time and when I heard this song I just...god I don't even know what to say. The song is awesome, the game is awesome.
This song alone made Red Dead Redemption one of my favourite games. It's just used so well in the context. John looks off into the horizon as he thinks about his wife and child kept prisoner by the mysterious government. Will he make it home or will he fade away in a place unfamiliar to him and never get to see his sons smile again. <3

Sun rises,on a steady pace on my horse,the water gleaming,John marston doesn't know who side he's on,bad egg,or a good noodle,as working for the marshals,then becoming dishonored and infamous.saving so many live,and ending other people's lives,civilians or criminals. Wind blows. He's lost in this cruel world. But I gotta hove to smee,he did better than me.
I feel that I am not the only one who came look this song up after riding through Mexico. This top comment is way better than the other video, which spoiled the fucking ending.

usually i haul ass around the wilderness. only stopping to kill wolves trying to kill an the such. so when i actually fought to get INTO mexico with a drunk guy who always seems to mess things up and then when i didnt have the horse i had had through out the entire game i was a little bit upset. but then this song started playing and i couldnt help but slow my pace so the hooves matched the guitar and so the music hovered over the now still mexican night. it was a majestic thing just then.
love this song and part of the game, moments like this is when you really feel blessed to be born on this planet. especially when we see our nearby star sink into our vast and deep oceans.. we have a great home and it's a shame we're litterally throwing it away

And I wondered if Marston would ever redeem himself from all the sins he'd committed, and I realized the tragic irony that he would have to go farther away from home to get there.

I've been a game for a very very long time (about 20 years) and from time to time people ask me why I play video games... Moments like the one I had in this game (when you first arrive in mexico) are for me perfect examples that these are far more then just "games"... At the very least... A great way to tell a story and to teleport a person to another world... I liked this game from the first time I loaded the CD but God knows I wasn't expecting the subtlety of the scene... Great song and game!
This part was epic when i first started. I remember this part and think about it alot.....
What made it like a movie for me was when this song started playing, A thunderstorm began that almost replicates what john was feeling..... just 1 of the 1000's of reason's why i love this game.
The way I interpret this song is it is John's melancholy reflection on what life in the Wild West use to be like and how that way of life is slowly dying out as civilization develops in the West and how he aches to get one last taste of that before he has to leave it all behind. However John also wants a normal life and in his thoughts he knows that that life with his family is Far Away from where he currently is and so he presses on into the last frontier of the Wild West to confront it.
Might very well be the most atmospheric touching scene EVER in a videogame. I remember surviving that hellish boat trip across the Rio Grande and just being happy I survived.
Then I rode into Mexico and that song hit.
It was almost surreal, it was that perfect.
Every other company would have taken a concept like RDR and made just another open world videogame. Rockstar made it an experience you'll never forget....
When you get into Mexico and this tune drops, EPIC...That part of the game was worth the 60 bucks just by itself. I would play the game over again just for that scene. I've never felt so connected to a game or character until that moment. Deserves game of the year.

This was easily the best moment in the game. It just gave you this certain feeling of the wild west and you really did feel like you were there.... I think I can safely say that I never experienced any greater moment in any other game... and let me tell you, I've played a lot of games. Amazing scenery they created.
I actually paused the game too make sure I did not have my TV sound on still under my gameplay. It was raining, sun going down, and I simply trotted up the hills in Mexico ever so slowly.

this part happened to me at sunset and i was just riding on top of a huge cliff with a view of the sun setting and like all of mexico below me. It was fucking insane
when I entered Mexico it was a clear night, the stars were shining and the moon was rising above the hills, fucking beautiful, it was so peaceful, this was by far one of the most memorable moment in any video game I have ever played.
when i first got there i whistled for my horse and got off the one you find. and it stopped. i loaded a safe way back so i could get this moment. and this time it was around 6pm so it was the most epic time of the day/night cycle. nothing matches the 6pm sun.
It seems people have had different experiences with this one whilst playing. Some none at all.
Mine was also as I entered Mexico, was with a sunset which made the rocks shimmer red, then, this song just walked along side my horse and I as we followed the path at an appropiate cinematic pace!
im glad none of the storyline was spoilt for me first steps in mexico and the ending left me in awe wanting more, then ofcourse the "remeber my family" side quest brought solid closure to the game. LOVE the song love the game

Yeah, I screwed up and whistled for my horse as soon as I could, jumping off the horse the game provides in Mexico...Little did I know that getting off of the horse ends the song, so I never heard it...I feel cheated. I think the song would hold meaning for me if I experienced it the way I was supposed to...

When you get into Mexico and this tune drops, EPIC...That part of the game was worth the 60 bucks just by itself. I would play the game over again just for that scene. I've never felt so connected to a game or character until that moment. Deserves game of the year.

This was easily the best moment in the game. It just gave you this certain feeling of the wild west and you really did feel like you were there.... I think I can safely say that I never experienced any greater moment in any other game... and let me tell you, I've played a lot of games. Amazing scenery they created.

I actually paused the game too make sure I did not have my TV sound on still under my gameplay. It was raining, sun going down, and I simply trotted up the hills in Mexico ever so slowly.
Felt like I was a star in a movie. I have never, ever, had a greater moment in a video game.

when I entered Mexico it was a clear night, the stars were shining and the moon was rising above the hills, fucking beautiful, it was so peaceful, this was by far one of the most memorable moment in any video game I have ever played.

when i first got there i whistled for my horse and got off the one you find. and it stopped. i loaded a safe way back so i could get this moment. and this time it was around 6pm so it was the most epic time of the day/night cycle. nothing matches the 6pm sun.

It seems people have had different experiences with this one whilst playing. Some none at all.
Mine was also as I entered Mexico, was with a sunset which made the rocks shimmer red, then, this song just walked along side my horse and I as we followed the path at an appropiate cinematic pace!

im glad none of the storyline was spoilt for me first steps in mexico and the ending left me in awe wanting more, then ofcourse the "remeber my family" side quest brought solid closure to the game. LOVE the song love the game

this was wanna my fav parts of the game, im glad it didnt get spoiled for me cause it was a real treat, the end of the game was spoiled for me but i was still really upset when it happened, i dont wanna spoil it but i have to say that it was so sad as a video game if it were a movie it wouldnt have been half as sad as it was

@shiyboy4 agreed, this song was perfect, gave you an awesome feeling, sit ontop of a mountain or just walk on your horse. Ive had only 1 video game that did this, and it was this game. i had many more that made me sad at the end but this one gave the most inpact. i had only 2 games that showed the good guy dying, i cried when i got to the end. not like a wahhh but snuffles and crap. so fucking sad.

One of the best moments in the game hands down. One of those rare times where every single thing marries together at once and creates a perfect moment that comes from out of nowhere. This game might end up in the thin air with Deus Ex as one of the best games ever.

Yeah, I screwed up and whistled for my horse as soon as I could, jumping off the horse the game provides in Mexico...Little did I know that getting off of the horse ends the song, so I never heard it...I feel cheated. I think the song would hold meaning for me if I experienced it the way I was supposed to...
