Thats a tricky one, the A812 does perform better than the C37 though the C37 is simple to fix, sadly neither of them get much use with the A820 around.
Cheers! there are still a few A807's in recording studios, its well worth asking around as you never know what will turn up sometimes, this A812 actually came from a gentleman who worked for BBC Radio Devon, I had also brought off him a few Uhers and such.
Just tried it, sadly it didnt work, I did find a complicated way (Which I forgot) but in involved going into the software setup and pressing the A/B key then store, cant remember how I did it now, the recorder is stuck in NAB mode instead of CCIR. I have this problem with my A810, one I can change the settings even during play mode, my other doesnt, I always put it down to a software version.
Holy crap, that is a very sophisticated machine. I had no idea machines were made with this level of control. How much would a fully functional one be worth, roughly?
Sort of both, it does not automatically calibrate itself however once you have aligned a tape, you can save the settings and record them onto another tape digitally so that later, you can load them back onto the internal memory
Does anyone still record music with these?

If to choose between this Studer A812 and a Studer C37, which one would you choose? On the technical side and on the sound reproduction side.
Possibilities of course are bigger with the A812 than with the C37.
Thanks! Exo.

Hi there! For example the "TAPE A/B" function will work if the machine is in STOP mode. Press than STOP and TAPE A/B... ;-)

Thank you, the recorder now working is an amazing machine, I just wish I could get a proper Studer stand for it.

There have been a few on Ebay in Germany, they have been selling for £1200-£1900
The Studer A820 has even more electronics inside, thats my next recorder hopefully.

That is a truly awesome machine... Will it automatically align the electronics for different tape formulations or do you have to do it manually?

When you look insie, there are aprox 15 pull out boards, 3 power boards, 4-5 base boards then the power supply, not to mention all the sensor boards.
