  • sdqu. ist meine lieblingsgruppe. doug's stimme ist einmalig - und geradezu sensationell augie meyer's vox-organ sound.

  • Dang haha the piano player used to be my music teacher in middle school at Sendero Christian Academy in San Antonio lol he looks so young ha (obviously)

  • Here's where Tex-Mex music began.

  • A shame they had to lip-sync it - these guys had more that enough talent to do any of their repertoire live. A great track though - and thatnks for posting!

"Far out" as they used to say in those days!

  • God you guys remember "Papagallos" ?????

  • Used to party alot down there. The song brings up some vivid memories. I also love The Gourds version. Party On!!!

  • Yah, Hoo! ..From now on, all of my keyboard players will have to back me up on the bugle !

  • The horns,baby,the horns.

  • liked the tune but the visual were gross.

  • And also, what's going on here?!? He turned country or the other way around?!?

  • What year?

  • Boystown!!!!!! Elzumbido!!!!!

  • what? no billy barlow? no wolvertin mountain? no isabella? no dallas alice? how top 40.

  • Doug once sat in Hank Williams Sr's lap. Goddamn, I wish it had been me. I got there first but he was bigger and pushed me away. RIP Doug, we miss the hell out of you.

    Luiz Alberto

  • I absolutely love this video. Great performers, awesome song. Real feel-good music. I come back to this again and again.

After reading all the comments, I must be the only one who's pissed at that faggot that walks in front of the camera TWICE, once at .09 and again at .20 (screen goes black). Who the hell is he? Nobody knows. A young Don Kirshner? Some German club wanker? Whoever he is, he blithely walks across, shoots his cuffs, waves to his pal, then doubles back ten seconds later. Douche.

  • doug was my oldmans cousin by marrige. hahah he turened my ol man into a head!

  • Lost my virginity in Nuevo Laredo

  • This brings back fond memories of Nuevo Laredo the way it way 40 years ago, but I wouldn't want to go there now; here's to Taylor, Whyte and Garday for the good times we had there.

  • @BluezGuitarz

You said it. Someone threw a grenade into one of the town offices a while back. It's nut's down there... Beautiful, but bat $hit crazy.

  • simplemente buenisimo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome

  • I played in Austin a couple of times in the late 70s at the Armadillo... that town was great back then. Always loved Doug's music, saw him live a couple of times but never got to meet him.

  • It´s a shame that many of Sahm´s great records are out of print or tehy don´t sell that stuff in record shops in Finland.

  • OMG, it just isn't fair!! Way, way back then all we had was their music--had to fantasize to that. No MTV, internet, video to watch this hot, hot hunk. Life sure ain't fair. How I wish he were still with us. I'm getting sad--thanks cristinabgs.

  • I love this song <3

  • Sure do miss Doug and the way Austin use to be. It'll never be the same---glad I could be part of it all.

  • Loved him!

  • Oh, my GAWD, I used to go with my lover to see Doug Sahm live almost every weekend at the Rome Inn in Austin Texas ... we'd dance, drink, smoke and party till the sun came up ... we were all young, lusty and beautiful ... thank you for posting this. It makes me cry.

  • @Scarlett4Zanzibar

You were so very lucky! I went to school in Illinois and the only groups I ever saw were the ones that came to my campus. I am not going to go back to the archives to find out if they were there and I missed them--don't think I could take it.

Did you ever get to talk with him? Is the Rome Inn where he got his start ?

  • Memories when the American tourism in Nuevo Laredo going to shoping at the curious stores and enjoy music, great food and of course great beer....Nuevo Laredo is the same maybe better...Rediscover Nuevo Laredo...come to visit us!

  • Augie Meyers playing the first Vox Continental organ to grace Texas and inventing by doing so the pure Tex-Mex sound.

  • Wonderful!!!!...Love Nuevo Laredo! Rocks!!!!!

  • I remember this song.

    Thank you

    PRICELESS

  • Always loved his music, thanks for posting!

  • i visited boys town in 1993, and that place was a hell hole of iniquity... but i had a blast...............

  • When did he die and from what?

  • @cabritorsss He died in 1999 from a heart attack.

  • @corvus13 Thanx...

  • buenísimo GRANDE

  • Augie's playing guiatr here...the dude playing keys is Frank Morin, I believe...He usually played horn.

  • It's a Vox organ

  • im from nuevo laredo and only is borring but is nice

its not true that this town is a war zone

if you dont have drugs you have nothing to fear

  • I noticed at 1:41 the keyboard they're using has the same reversed color keys as the Texas Tornados use. Can someone tell me what kind of piano that is?

  • @ladrinski9: The guy playing the piano is the same one... Augie Myers from San Antonio, TX,. He played with Doug in the Sir Douglas Quintett and later with the Tornados and his playing made a lot of the typical sound of these groups. And maybe it is even the same keyboard. But I don´t know the brand.

  • The organ they are using is a Vox Continental.

  • He also played on Dylan's "Love and Theft" - picture in the album sleeve.

  • IT's a Vox Continental organ and they're terribly expensive nowaday's (i know, i've been trying to get one for years!).

  • kind of a precursor to his Texas tornado stuff. Love it all. RIP Douglas

  • laredo es la frontera que mas me gusta no hago menos las otras pero para mi en mi mundo es la mas bonita. saludos desde saltillo.

  • NUEVO LAREDO Rules ! ! !

  • yep , lip-synch ... check it out at 2:03 ... love it anyway... Doug is the man !

  • lip synch? you mean augie wasn't playing two notes simultaneously on the trumpet? my heart is broken

  • Ontario...you're right. These guys are the real thing. Above all, they did it with more taste and expertise than the sad epigones.

That's why Sir Doug is still a knight.

  • hah! busted at 2:03 for a lip synching violation. who cares though...Dough Sahm will always be the King!!! I love this song!!!

  • i have an answering machine message from doug sahm

  • The Byrds,

  • Creedence Clearwater Revival and The 1960's Texas Pychedelic Country Rock was the forerunner of the Allman Brothers,Lynyrd Skynyrd,Molly Hatchet,Exile,Etc. New Country did not invent anything. They just copied this music from the 1960' and 1970's.

  • Man you know your stuff.......I agree with you totally

  • I remember reviewing the story on the video performance. It was recorded in the fall of 1969.

  • this song is dope

  • Nuevo Laredo is the armpit of Mexico. It is like a war zone. Dirty, filthy, backwards.

  • No it aint that bad, Nightlife is at is best....

I personally think Nuevo Laredo is the best Border Town in Mexico....

  • Brings back memories of Papagayo's and Marabu... houses of ill repute in Boy's Town

(Red Light District..Zona Roja)in Nuevo Laredo. I would trust those working girls more than all these church going women when it comes to honesty and making a boy feel like a man. I became a man at the ripe age of 15 at Papagayo's. I will never forget her name..Yolanda.

  • I'm a duch girl from holland, in my early years i spend a whole lot of time at the house of my grandparents, the dansed with my uncle on the numbers of Sir Douglas Quintet

i laught so much.....of the way that my uncle dansed on sir douglas quintet's numbers. now am 38 years old...and most of the familie don't live any more...I read that some boy's will never forget "Yolanda"...i will never forget sir douglas quintet..thanks for bringing good times back!.....

    Bianca

  • Marabu sounds familiar, my aunt used to be the owner of that place.....

  • yeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaa

  • it is a shame that people who live in Nuevo Laredo does not know this song

  • went too soon.....

  • reminds me of my beloved sis!

  • ekosi, neesta, kaytaayan! Ilove it!

  • I'm positively stunned. What a fantastic video..Never knew it existed. I love how Augie and , FRANK , IS IT (LO SIENTO MUCHO)switched instruments !

  • omg, hahahaa!

i'm from regular ol' laredo, tx and like half of my family, amongst other places, lives in nuevo laredo....

not that this means anything to y'all, but it's just crazy to see/hear a groovy song about home, you know?

ps- and i agree, too bad the narcos y los chapos have taken over. it was (and is, during the day if you're cautious, kinda) such a vibrant, festive place... tsk.

  • Where did you get this video from ? Its great

  • i downloaded from emule

  • it's from German TV, the Hamburg station "N3"

  • I love this song. They must have lip-synched this vid because it's exactly like the cut from the album. Nice to see it though.

  • I was fortunate to see this great band in 68 at the Fillmore West. They were so talented and did so many kinds of music; much more than just their Tex Mex hits. Also got to hang with them at Frank's apartment. my cousin was friends with Frank's wife (ex now). Just caught Augie at SXSW at a pre-Pondersosa Stomp gig! He did play keys at that gig, haha

  • Met Doug in Sacramento in '70 when he toured with the Mercury Records Flying Bear Medicine Show. One of the nicest people in music.

  • This isn't Augie Meyers, right?...

  • Augie's miming the guitar! That's horn player/percussionist Frank Morin behind the organ.

    Man, this made me happy.

  • This is so great, all children shuld be shown this in 7th grade in all countries all over the world.

    thanks for posting it

  • Great video..Doug was the best! We all miss him! This was in Europe, right?
