  • Parts like 5:32 remind me of why I listen to music in the first place.

  • So apparently I need to skip to 5:32

  • @StrangeCognitivism Please don't. You'd be missing the point.

  • I hadn't listened to this song in a good few months and nearly shit myself when it got to 5:30. But damn it was good.

  • FUUUUUUCK YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • some recent studies proved that the brain reacts to music the same way as with cocaine

the 5:30 moment really proves that.. what a hit in the head

  • This kind of music makes me feel like I'm in trance...

  • is this in where the wild things are? sounds like that music. fuckin badass either way.

  • Karen O from Yeah Yeah Yeahs did all the music for Where The Wild Things Are aha :)

  • I love skating round the suburbs at night listening to this full blast.

  • Seriously, the glockenspiel duet blew my mind. I wish there was more.

  • 5:30 - 6:20 should be the reason that everyone gets up in the morning

  • Damn, pretty good stuff. I usually drift around the metal genre but this is some pretty damn good stuff.

  • Just saw them in concert Yesterday. This was the second song (they played it from the 4th minute onward). And when the Shit gets real (5:30) as some have said, I always have goose bumps. Hearing it live again was simply amazing!

  • @smoilou

    Really?

So, those last two minutes of the entire song.

How were they played? What's that main instrument that feels so soaringly beautiful?

I always tried to imagine what it was, as it feels like a fusion between a reverberated guitar, a violin and a bagpipe.

  • 7:11 onward is amazing

  • I don't know why but children singing in French always makes a song 20 times better.

  • 5:30 is my absolute favorite. From any song, ever.

  • This is great in all it's imperfection. From the gritty, drunken version of what's supposedly some even grittier, 20th century folk song to the ambient sweeps to the saturated glockenspiel jam, to the buzzing waves of string music to the kickass beauty the crashes through at about 5:30 to the (clip) final blues. On one's best of days, this is what it feels like to experience and/or contemplate life's struggles and joys.

  • Omg, my bother is using my account to put comments on stuff..

  • Shit gets real at 5.30

  • If you like this album you might also like Edgar froese's Epsilon in Malaysian Pale and Comus's song The Herald.

  • (:

  • fuckin love this music so much!

  • holy crap

  • that pedalboard is huge.

  • @FizzPopful HAH! Sorry if this is too melodic and emotional for you to grasp, Mr. Metal.

  • stick my finger in a baby's eye? lol

  • @xgirlxfightx So Im not the only one who thought that was kind of disturbing. "stick my finger in the baby's eye'' puts an element of creepines to it.

  • @xgirlxfightx Yeah, some of those folk songs really tell it how is. You should hear some old folk songs from Småland, Sweden. Beating your kids may be out of style in Sweden, but the songs about it are still here

  • when i hear this, i don't fear death. cause this will be the best thing you've ever experienced. over and over again.

  • 5:32 is such a musical high

  • Sublime.

  • I wish 5:33-6:25 was longer...but then I wouldn't friggin cherish it so much when I listen to this...

  • Beautiful.

  • 5:32 is my ringtone

  • 5:30

  • This song gives me profound visions of a birth of a new world, rising from the ashes of the old one... i don't know. Everytime i listen to GYBE it feels like i'm hearing a movie. Or sounds from a totally different world.

  • @acidflasher999

yeah like post nuclear type of a new world. Fallout (the game) - like world

  • @sandygirl24250 Lol, if you don't like it, you don't understand.

  • @North0house Apologies to my friend that posted below, and your right, she just doesn't understand this masterpiece of a song.

  • @Frostbite941 Yeah, it's a bummer she doesn't get it. Ah, I bet it'll grow on her though... Maybe.

  • @sandygirl24250 obvious troll is obvious.

  • @sandygirl24250 Sandygirl##### <-TROLLLLLLLL

  • @rabidbeavir dickhead

  • @sandygirl24250 Nice choice of words Sandy! considering dick and head is all you will ever achieve in life. Now fook back to Lady Drag Ga and Bite me Spears.

  • The part at 5:32 is literally the best moment in any song ever.

  • @NotGabeNewell

I agree. The first note sends shivers through my entire body.

  • musically this isn't a great song.....parts of it are...but what i find so amazing about it is that it's soooooooooo haunting and you don't feel scared......soothed in a strange way.....it makes you take a deep breath in between the emotions....which are brought to surface by the lingering notes on guitar and strings.

  • @randyandy1960 The thing is: this isn't music for the music, this is music as art. This is more like a movie made of sound than something to just listen to at a party or concert.

  • I hate so much the new Youtube!

  • The 10 minute thing on YouTube sucks.

  • Their best song, in my opinion. More than just a great song...an amazing piece of art.

  • I remember once my cousin walked by once while I was listening to "Storm" and she asked if this was my band (because I had just recorded some stuff with a few guys). I responded "no, I wish I had a fraction of their talent". And that was Storm! This I think is even better. If anyone new to Godspeed comes across this; take the time to listen to the whole song. It'll be well worth it and it might even make you feel things you never even thought you could by the end. I had the latter experience.

  • Free!

  • AH. Speed Garage about five minutes in; FINALLY found it. :D

  • Google "internet archive godspeed" and follow the top result.

There you'll find 38 full shows (audio) that are quite amazing, especially from the late 90s. Start with the highest rated shows first. The shows have been taped by audience members and are legal because the band granted permission.

Advice: For files only offered in the shorten format, use the program "Trader's Little Helper" to convert to WAV/FLAC.

  • Last night was the Frighteners in Austin Texas. At the opus mark of this track I lit a stinkarette. You don't know how that big impact might have been on Chile, how. How? Echolocation is not to blame. Yet I fell asleep without any knowledge of this Earthquake and woke up only to fall into a trance of having slept with one eye open. My trance works. I just want to know how. I'm not trying to crush, kill or destroy. I am trying to make a beautiful mental keepsake for all giraffe's temporal lobes.

  • @operativewarkraft

    ...exactly!

  • @miatypissa, the whole piece is antennas to heaven. Moya Sings 'Baby-O'... is just the first movement and then goes through 6 more ending with antennas to heaven.

  • This is how Antennas to Heaven starts ( CD ) .

  • handle it

  • there should be a new word simply to describe how this song makes me feel. GYBE are incredible. absolutely incredible.

  • Free

  • @mnc4692 FLOGAWSUMETRIC?

  • reform GSYBE!

  • I have been very sad of late, and hearing this again for the first time in maybe four years has made me smile in a way that feels like crying. How sad that we send out little one lines of typing out to strangers. Apologies.

  • How melancholic. I bet you write poetry.

  • @mormor39 Don't apologize, its nice read how music you like, help

sad people around world to smile... godspeed also connects with me.

  • @mormor39 @mormor39 An anonymous body of text sent out into the abyss of the internet is like a prayer to the night's black sky.

  • @mormor39 How beautiful that you helped me realize I'm not the only one.

  • @Orion2669 thank you for the little moment of contact my friend. where are you in the world?

  • @mormor39 I'm from Canada, British Columbia, and you are very welcome; thank you as well. Peace & Love

  • @Orion2669 yo mee tooo! :) I'm very sad the Canucks lost today!! :'(

  • Their best song.

  • all GY!BE songs are dope..8)..floaaat....

  • GY!BE sound puts me in my place, i dont know where that is, but its better than where i am now and i like it there.

    Godspeed.

  • The radio = boring drone music, shallow instant gratification. For this class of sound you need patience to comprehend it's depth...

  • Patience or drugs. Either works.

  • best comment ever

  • when i first heard this band i dismissed it as boring drone music, but then i gave them another chance, and lo and behold i was wrong. They're great!

  • One of the best songs by GYBE

  • 5:32 - 6:20 = stunningly beautiful

the french children are a nice touch as well

this is my favourite gy!be song.

  • favorite part of the song too. it make me wanna do something.

  • i used to put this album on and relax/sleep, then bolt awake at this bit!

  • That part has never failed to make me smile.

  • Hum...the most weird song Ever :P Not bad =D

  • you clearly havent taken the time to listen to the rest of their music :P

  • Yeah, aside from East Hastings, this is easily my favorite GY!BE track.

  • completely agree man

  • I have been moved

  • weird but amazing i love it super chill

  • this is the most greatest of GSYBE!!!!!

  • Absolutely mind-boggling, this album. Hi-Fi LP journey through everything that is and all that will ever be. Perfection.
