  • page turns in four mallet pieces ffffffff uuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • page turns in four mallet piecesffffffff uuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • page turns in four mallet pieces FFFFFFFF UUUUUUUU

  • im a freshma ad i have to play this as a solo looks fun

  • i have to play this next week and i just love the song.. you played it very well ;)

  • i find it sounds better if it is slower

  • You should really alternate your sticking in the descent into the roll section. It will be a lot smoother, and easier for you to play. You'll also be able to pull out those 3 occasional accents better.

Also, in addition to just smoothing out the whole section, tighten up your grip on the final chord progression before the roll section, because on a marimba, not all notes are the same size. As you go lower, the notes become wider, so you'll need to close your grip a bit when jumping chords...

  • interesant video. but 1 thing: you play only nots... you don't have heart to music, you don'y play with heart, but , video is very good

  • Just got my music for this piece in the mail today, so excited :) What kind of marimba is that, it looks just like my rosewood Adams soloist.

  • play the rests, the slow part needs to be faster, and the hole things was just pretty sloppy man!!!

  • all around pretty good, but its MF in the beggining, not FF. haha lol and there were a whole bunch of unecessary/unwritten accents. and on the accents, you are way to harsh. i mean, thats a rosewood instrument if im not mistaken and you are being way to hard on it, and its hurting it. at my highschool, some of our keys went out of tune because kids were too harsh on them. and i would add some more shape and musicality all around the whole thing. all around still really good though.

  • im currently learning this. im using stevens grip though.

  • in the doubles make the second note more audible

  • pretty good over all just during the rolls in the 4/4 part I think you should add a little more shape, just plain rolls is boring and dull

  • you completely butchered that out the ass.

  • dude. u suck.

  • @crossdrew82

    That was rude.

He did very well. It wasn't the best I've seen, but it's still great!

So, unless you're like Mark Ford or something, just shut up.

  • i might use softer mallets on this piece...if you want to keep the hard ones, you might need to speed up your rolls so that they blend together, rather than each stroke of the roll sounding distinct and sharp.

  • you goes s´faster t the beginning and plays a lot of wrong otes .... i think i will post my version of that and than you can listen how it really goes :D

  • lmao the phone goes well with it. good job.

  • @czerrr Yeah XD At first I thought it was supposed to be there, then I realized it was a phone :D

  • sounded okay. I personally thought that there was too much tension in your hands and it made the sound heavy instead of warm.

  • oh and jsut a tip, try and make your rolls more even ;)

  • good job. i am currently working on rain dance. it is a very challenging piece.

  • I'm performing this solo for my schools solo and ensemble, and i was wondering where you got the wrist bells...

  • um i just borrowed them from somebody actually but they were just cheap ones so you could probably find them at walmart or something.

  • Telephone fail.

  • wel there were a few ovious mistakes..And you rushed the tempo a bit and made it sound really dirty..Im doing this solo, its easy =D, well good job

  • @HBKzac It's all about interretation. I had an instructor that played this much faster.

  • Umm there were a few ovious mistakes..and wow you sure rushed the tempo a bit and sounded dirty...Im doing this solo..its really easy..well good job

  • 1.) Finally a recording with the famous "optional wrist bells", i cant say i really like them...

2.) people need to STOP ASKING FOR SHEET MUSIC. buy it. its not that expensive. it takes composers alot of time to come up with. Most composers are not very wealthy either-support the fine arts, dont be lazy

  • @skidrum11 i completely agree about everything you said. the wrist bells are kind of distracting!

  • lol, telefone!

where'd you get the bell bracelets?

  • lol i just got my solo for solo n ensemble today..n im playing this lol i just know the first like 5 mesures lol well nice job lol wish me luck haha got 5 weeks to learn

  • just a tip, I would alternate hands when you play just on the D. or work up your chops so your outside mallet isn't raised way up and flying all over the place.

  • Got it a week ago and now I'm wearing band-aids lol

  • Very nice. I wish I could do Stevens :( I can do Burtons, but its hard getting a whole step interval..

  • Comment removed

  • well sorry man it kinda like violates copyright rules or something so if i did i might get sued... sorry!

  • Costs like $4 to buy it o.o

  • yah unless you just go to the ;preview image, save it as a picture, insert to a word doc, than make it bigger and print :p

  • @2kreh

it's only a 4 dollar solo, from steve weiss percussion. no big deal.

  • WOW that sounds exactly like my phone and i actually answered it... wow....

  • Pick up your phone!!

haha, but seriously, nice work. My girlfriend is playing this piece and I'm trying to convince her to use the bells. . :)

  • I'm gonna try this one next semester. But I'm more of a Vibraphone person to be honest :D

  • @MeleeMunchkin Aw, so much like me. :)

  • I'm gonna try this one next semester. But I'm more of a Vibraphone guy to be honest :D

  • i did this solo and scariest thing ever, the freakin lights went out on me :P check profile right around the chord section

  • dude you are SCREAMING fast. youll hit less wrong notes if you slow down a bit. use a metronome. mine was screaming fast too sooo dont feel bad ;]

  • good. but bad technique in the left hand. when you start playing the octaves, you cant let your index finger retract back or you lose any good control.

  • hey

do you have or where did you get the sheet music for that

i want to play this for my music exam

    thanks

  • i love this piece played it in 7th grade

  • Great work.

Try not to do so much with speed though.

  • Nice job with the bells. Even though it says "Use sleigh bells for extra musicality" or something along those lines in the music I've never seen someone actually do it. I liked it with that.

  • thata a very good grip. i think the braclet was too much. but over all this was very good performance. :)

    nice job.

  • can't hear the 2nd mallet...

other than that it's good just got work on not rushing. "speed will kill you" quote from my percussion director.

  • Consistency! Work on that!

Other than that it's good. Those bracelets are ANNOYING! Hahaha.

  • the bells on the bracelet.... aggg

  • Ahh... my teacher asked me to learn this over spring break. *sigh* too bad I haven't really been working on four mallet since marching season... But good job, I'll definitely be referencing this for later.

  • work on maintaining the same tempo through the whole song, you started rushing a little.

  • ahh i'm learning this right now to get used to four mallets, i'm doing burton grip though cos it's apparently easiest to control or easiest to learn anyway. i love this piece.

  • the telephone ring really adds to the aura of the end.

  • Nice. Working on this right now. Hat the 6/8 part.

  • maddi u gotta get a video of urself doing somethin. i have never seen u play anything except piano girl. you sure r good at that!!! have a great day cousin. :)

  • ha good job

    im a burton girl, tho

    lol

  • Are you using the Burton grip or the Musser Grip?

  • musser but i wasn't very very good at controlling it when I played this solo so it might look like its a different kind of grip

  • @percussionguy101 do u know how to play standard? i think it would help to clean up its visual effect alot. posably make some of it a little easier to play as well.

  • Still Sounded good though. Good job :)

  • |fast

    |fast

    |fast

    |fast

    |fast

  • Some people are saying this is too fast, but I've heard an mp3 by Marimba Quest (available on iTunes) which sounds great at an even faster tempo. Just got to work on accuracy at a slower tempo, then move up to the fast tempo.

  • how long did it take you to learn this? cuz i'm gonna play it for solo in february. and i don't have much time to practice

  • Well it probably depends on your skill level.. but i'm sure you could learn it by February with minimal practice, I think i learned it in about three weeks

  • im playing this in february, too. haha.

  • I learned most of this piece in 30 minutes.

  • im not the one who performed this, but this is an extremely easy piece and two weeks time may be all you need

  • so yea.. I just learned this piece last week and I noticed alot of dynamic and musical mistakes. One main that that bothered me was the 6/8 part being too fast and then in the rolling section, the right hand needs to be heard more when transistioning to different notes.

  • So fast!

  • You're playing it way to fast and your left hand technique is really off. Try working with the dynamics too. Keep up the good work!

  • I agree with Dogma3721. And its too fast. Take it MUCH slower and put more dynamics in the piece. Have fun just randomly putting in dynamics anywhere, but just play slower.

  • what do you guys mean its too fast? its almost perfect speed if not a lil slow... its a fast paced song, im 14 and am playing this speed

  • Pleeease not so fast!!!

  • AHH PHONE RING.

  • Oh, and try and play more over the resonators on the lower keys. It can be difficult to manage sometimes with awkward chords, but it's not impossible.

  • Be careful not to attack those rolls too strongly. It's hard to tell in the video, but it looks like you're curling your index finger in a bit and not using it as a fulcrum. Keep it out at all times. XD Also, I personally think, it'd sound infinitely better without the bells.

  • There's no full breathe after the fermata right before the 6/8

  • Wow, I love this song, it's so much fun to play, but you play it like 10x better then me.

  • Your left far side mallet, it's either one or four, barely touches the notes when your rolling, by the way.

  • Eh.

That's the feeling it leave sme.

    Eh.
