Bangladesh should learn something from Malaysia and Thailand. Malaysia and Thailand both has erected fence on their side of border. So basically there is double protection and both countries since this was done has no border related issues, earlier they were also busy blaming each other for illegal immigration and frequent fire exchange on border.

And why the fence is controversial, India has a right to do whatever it want on its land, why should it bother Bangladesh. The Bangladesh opposition to this fence is ridiculous, basically what they are saying that do not make this fence as it will prevent us going illegally into indie, what business they have to be in India. sattydelhi, dont talk based on your little knowledge. bangladesh does not mind any border but india erects border on post 71 border that indians made themselves. there are a lot of contoversial lands that falls on "indian" side if they erect a fence, which bangladesh does not want cause it is Bangladesh's land. if u can't agree on a border with the other country, u can't erect a fence there! if u do then the other country can answer with teir army if necessary.

You seem to be an expert on India Bangladesh border. Are you saying India is illegally constructing fence on Bangladeshi land. Come on, give me a break, nobody will buy this illogical argument. Can you post a link to any neutral article that talks about India making fence on BG land? Truth of the matter is such fences are always made several km inside once border and same is happening at indo BG border. In fact there are thousands indian citizens on border areas who now live outside the fence.

Bangladeshis has no business to be in India, India will flush out all Bangladeshis living illegally in India and prevent future illegal immigration. India has its own vast poor population, we cant handle more from BG. India is not US where immigration is welcomed. Its not just about immigration alone, this border has become a serious smuggling route as well for narcotics, fake currency and arms into India. and some BSF guys were also involved in this. What the hell is this mad propaganda that indian BSF kills Bangladeshi on border for no reason? come on give me a break, are the BSF jawan mad who just kill at any Bangladeshi who is just living in Bangladesh and intends to do no harm towards India. Most of the shooting, hence killing take place when BDR tries to push people into India illegally, whenever they are spotted warning shots are fired followed by fire exchange. BSF shoots at anything that moves simply because they are not trained as a professional armed force, unfortunately. They kill innocent and poor civilians with impunity since their superiors don't care. BDR is actually much more professional in their conduct according to both sides of the border civilians. Hopefully, the Indian gov. will impose international standards of conduct by BSF, which will help reducing the deep distrust average Bangladeshi has toward India. It will be good for both sides

What is the background to this story? Why is the Indian-Bangladeshi border so contentious? Under what circumstances were the BDR soldiers and the Bangladeshi civilians shot and killed by the Indian border guards?

Too bad that this story did not answer those questions were not answered in this story. The way this story was present makes India look the bully and the ultimate bad guy in this conflict. I don't know if that is true or not, it would be nice if this story gave us more background.

India doesn't want refugees coming over the border and after 26/11 they are concerned with terrorism also. Its not right either way, shooting at civilians is not ok.
