  • how did you finish the end of the handle where the tang comes out to secure it on ?? thats the one part i need showing. ??

  • I'm watching this because i just ordered the hand forged blade made my Julius Petterson off of the Ray Mears website and bought some antler to put a handle on it, thanks for your help :)

  • Impressive, looking forward to more

  • Yeah, buff the bone!

  • @dakenetsu the bone I had was hollow so I filled the middle with expanding gorilla glue then I just hammered it doing over the tang. I use a pipe to hammer my peices down and for a couple tips I would give is after I watched your video I think you need to put more time in one knife than just wanting to make a lot of then when people see a beautiful knife they want to buy it but ur knives are nice but put more time into the handle go back to the one that has a full tang and round off the edges

  • thats a nice knife man,i just got into making knives, not nearly as good as you buy im tryin,a hobby i hope to make a job ,check out my vid and give me tips fellow smiths...lol,i know how bad bone and antlers smell, its awful lol, what dit u use to tap the bone onto the tang, did u predrill or just hammer it through

  • SWEET!

  • @usmcretired2112 thank you for the comment it's people like you that make me want to upload the videos thanks

  • @monkeysize i cut it off at the end I guess I didn't show that part

  • @thehappycamper1976 thanks and yes one of the worst smells of all time but it turns out looking beautiful

  • great work troutfisher, keep it up. but i must agree, grounding that cow bone, must of

    smelt something bad lol.

  • Great looking knife...but what is the deal with the extra metal at the end of the handle?

  • Great work. You are a true artisan and I'll learn many tricks along the way from your videos. Thanks for posting a no nonsence information video.

  • Very cool. But please do think about all that dust you're breathing. We don't want you to get sick. Love the video.

  • this is exactly how i make mine

  • cool knife man :)

  • wow is all i got to say!

  • Very cool,Troutfisher16

  • thats pretty sweet. keep up the good work!

  • I was totally unimpressed at the start. But what a beautiful result at the end. An interesting video. I might get a knife kit and have a go myself. Thanks for sharing the process.

  • OMG, this is so fucken cool. Nice knife. I hope I can get to your level someday. Subscribed. :)

  • Dude you areba bad ass knife maker did you ever think to try and make some money of of this or even have a future in cutlery

  • @TheCarablanco that is possible but it's not as practical as just forming the handle on the original tang but at certain points in the process I have the blade fully covered in tape but I guess I could put a piece of metal on each side of the blade and then wrap it with tape but I haven't slipped up yet

  • This is very nicely finished, but I'm curious. . . isn't there a way to do all the handleworking prior to installing it on a finished blade? IE; a blank tang of same length and proportion? That way you don't have to worry about masking off the finished/nearly finished blade, and actually have a little more leeway during the finishing process. This is a fine looking knife, I'd just hate to see someone "fail" and slip during the process and mar the finished blade. Excellent job, nicely done!

  • @GarrettJDB checkout my video called "making a FILE KNIFE (buffing)"

  • How do you make the blade shiny? I just made a file knife but i'm wondering how to get it shiny.

  • @RazorDsknives haha yea cow bone it prob the worst smelling thing i have ever ground but to answer you I have a video on buffing a knife it's called "Making a FILE KNIFE ( buffing)"

  • Mmmm smell of burning bone... loll dude very nice any tips for mirror finishing?

  • Well done!!!!

  • well done. i enjoyed the time laps

  • @OROMCAL I got the brass on line but you can get it at any junk metal place also the plastic is just plastic jar caps and Tupperware lids the goat horn is hard to find but the cow bone you can get a lot of places near farms I got mine at a "cow grave yard"

  • say brother, nice knife, i have a question though, where would one purchase the plastic or fiberglass, brass and all the accessories needed to make a handle?

  • @justinsundaram17 You don't have to do any measuring on the handles just drill the holes in the middle of the pieces and I'll be good, but every piece has to be a little bit bigger than u want the handle to ultimetlt be so u have room to work with. If u have the design in your mind you should just go with it and not get to technical on measurin

  • that is awesome! how do you measure/make the holes in the handles?

  • Very nice talent you have, you should market it on the internet, I'd buy one for an old knife my father left me....no handle.

  • can u show us how to make a blade so shiny plz

  • @s1debar2r0cks I might sell my knives I don't know yet

  • r u going to sell ur knifes?? cuz they r rlly goood

  • I dont know how old you are ( I figure in the teens ) but you have a real talent.Keep making beautiful knives.

  • did you just use glue for the handle? and where did you get the bones?

  • @OAKnSTEEL I use the middle section from the leg bones of the cow because they have the most room to work with

  • @FLH96 I am going to either going to carve a design into my next knife or my friend is going to you can check out my friends work in my video homemade file knife 2

  • @mc107100 I use wood glue for the wood, bone, and leather pieces and superglue for the plastic and metal pieces

  • Hey I made a knife very similar to this and all I have to do is the handle so do your just use super glue to hold all the pieces together?

  • Nice forearms!!! Levi

  • Sweet! You have some serious talent!

  • @ FLH96 I am going to either carve a disingenuous into my next knife or my friend I know is going to carve a design into my handle. My friend is a really good woodworker you can see his stuff in my video HOMEMADE file KNIFE 2

  • AWESOME !

I have a Bowie blade I've been wanting to customize with a cow bone handle of my own. I would like to attempt carving a design into the handle.Have you ever attempted that also?

  • Anytime you sand bone it is a good idea to wear a mask.

  • @Karpens16 thank you... And it took me about 10 hours to get the mirror finish but I sand it by hand with 1200 grit sandpaper so that's why it takes awile, the after that i buff it out on my buffing wheel

  • that's a thing of beauty. I haven't seen any of your other videos but how long did it take you to get a mirror finish on that blade?

  • wow thats one of the best lookin hand made knifes ive ever seen, nice work

  • awsome!

  • thanks this helps a lot

  • Very inspiring!

  • @ cadcon97 I got the cow bone from a cow grave yard. I also use a piece of steel pipe and a hammer to press the pieces of the handle together

  • what do you use to push the spasers and cow bow down wen you glu it

  • i cant wait to do this.please make a vid on how to make the blade.and were did you get the bone

  • Thank you man! I am learning a lot from you. Great videos! And very nice creative knife work = ) Thanks again. ~Wolf

  • Beautiful blade!

  • wow thass cool

  • @swedishhunter21 I just cut the piece of the end off and it stays together. If I try to hammer it down it will space out the pieces of my handle but if I heat it up it will Bern my pieces and melt them so yea

  • how did you finish up the tang end? did you like hammered it down like a rivet?

  • kool thanks.

  • @ OAKnSTEEL I used the middle part of the leg bone

  • Hey MrCorncrack I didn't buy my bone eather I know a place that's like a cow bone yard... I got my bone from the middle section of the legs (make sure u get it from a cow that has been dead for a wile) just make sure you have a thick bone so u don't carve down to the sponge part or the bone. All bones are hollow so u have to fill the middle with like expanding glue ( I used gorilla glue-foming glue)

  • @Troutfisher16 what bit were you using with the dremel?

  • hey i was just wondering im from australia wanting to make my own knife and want bone on my handle but dont wanna spend big just for a handle i was wondering could you be able to tell me what part of the cow did you get the bone from?

  • Good job,... I'll pay you $50 bucks for that knife.

  • Thank you backyardsounds this is what I call a layered or stacked knife handle the design is a design I came up with and I couldn't find a video on how to make a stacked knife handle so with trial and error I came up with this way of making / shaping it but I guess its standard cuz I can't really think of any other way to make it.

  • I'm intrigued with your handle! Very beautiful, but I'm really intrigued with how you shaped it on the knife itself! Is this something you came up with on your own, or is this a standard way of making a solid handle?

  • fuck thats shiny nice knife btw

  • nice job!! but there are so much more colours on the handle. ( it's just my opinion ). the patterns on the back of the blade are nices. excuse me for my english I'm french and I'm not good with your language.

ps : you're fishing with imitation of salmon's eggs?!

  • VERY COOL!!! HANDEL!!! GREAT WORK!!!

  • man that was fast!

  • Wow looks great! Keep it up!

  • Hey 81luckydog Sorry Can u explain more idk what u mean

  • how did u get rid of the the ruffels in the metal?? i normaly have these perfect lines

  • Hey thegigihurt do u mean what order I stacked the pieces of the handle on???

  • @Troutfisher16 not the layout but how you made sure the knife handle is never going to move. that is my problem with that style blade.

  • i have made several knives. but i have used wood scales for two sides of a knife handle. in your next video can you into a little more detail on the layout or stacking of the handle.

  • If u want to see a review on this knife look at my new video called HOMEMADE file KNIFE 2

  • Thank you labandit1 if u tell me what u want I can make a knife for u but it's going to be a little wile kuz I have to make a knife for a family member

  • @Troutfisher16 hey good work. very nice knife. what part of the bone did you use?

  • Outstanding buddy. Stick with it, you got a career if you keep going. I'm goona subrice to keep an eye on you progress. I may even have you make me one...

  • The knife I made the handle for in this video is the sharpest knife I have ever owned and it holds a edge really well because I have become better at the heat treating and tempering process

  • how well does your knives keep there edge?
