  • Southern Maryland was/is the mecca of how to prepare blue crabs: Dorchester, Wicomico counties. In the 1980s we'd catch two bushel baskets full from 5pm -8pm in the summer. Put them in the refrigerator crisper and they go comatose. Then steam them with Old Bay, vinegar and sea weed in a layered stock pot. Perfect.

  • omg...you dont cut them first thing you do is take the legs off...if they come out with meet on them your crabs suck and they arent packed. then you take the back thing off and pull the top off take the guts off crack the two sides in half take on half crush it then pull it apart and eat the back fin...if the the legs come off with meat its the backfin that comes out. which is the best part...geez...people tht arent from southern maryland dont know what their doin

  • @dedicateddad I don't know why people boil crabs but, these are the type of people that can't spell "apply" either (0:38)

  • @ddunlap86 I usually boil crabs so the meat won't be as sweet as it normally is with salt.

  • @dedicateddad I thought they had to boil the king crab alive but I see them being cut in half alive on a table saw :( Not sure which is worse..

    I used to run a crab lline on Ponchatrain lake and we had to boil them alive for health reasons. NO dead crabs to be boiled, Had to be thrown away..

    The TRUTH is that when you find a dead crab you don't know how long it has been dead, so the only SAFE thing to do is to toss it.

    Saw kills it, so the're OK

    Now, if you KNOW it was alive an hour ago, and it's been refrigerated, then it's OK. I've cooked dead ones out of my 'fridge when I *KNEW* they were alive when they went in yesterday...

    Still, better safe than sorry!

    OTOH, When you buy a bushel of steamed, nobody checks every crab...

    OTOH, When you buy a bushel of steamed, nobody checks every crab, they just dump the basket into the pot. When you're eating, if you get one that seems "off" (I usually get at least a couple like this per bushel) DON'T EAT IT!

    Oh, and PLEASE don't "boil" crabs!!

  • those were mostly female crabs and theyre illegal to cacth and you dont crack the shell yu pen it at the apron dumbasssssssssssssssssss!

  • the best way to cook them is to either use a steamer or take a pot and put big rocks in the bottom and fill with water just below the top of rocks then set the crabs on top, they cook just by the steam
