I think this is about how people give Len all these different personalities for different songs. Len is wondering how many times he must born (a new personality given to him) and how many times he must be killed (getting rid of the old personality in order to re-invent himself.) He also wonders where the old personalities go when new ones appear. I think when the 7th Len kills Len, it's a representation of personalities so far from the original that it stops being Len completely.

I have a similar thought.

Len is trying to be a perfect singer by developing a style but when the truth of having to learn and understand reaches him, he notices that he isn't able to understand and learn everything in his current style and changes/kills the former one.

This goes over and over until one is born who carries all of the styles/skills of the former, just as wished, but doesn't want to sing because all this is to much for him and so kills the actual Len.
