if you have to order 2 6 pin graphic connectors and 4 Sata modular connections and 4 ATA mudular connections. its got a 50 partions to do to get permition to order these parts
cooleermaster got the worst customer service price on each connector sill be 50.00 to 70.00 per one connector they ship one at a time. zi like to know if I can find other brandn mae usch as Ultra or other brand names that got Japanese Capacitors suck asa 750watt and 850 watt with removiale modular andI like to email
I do agree that Japanse Capacitors are the best. I try my bestr to look for it however when doing this online looking lots of version from many many many brand names. that inforamtion is not provided.
I do have one from Coolermaster. I lost some module connectors and I have to make the order for them.
the service on Coolermaster realy stinks!!!! its fucked up stinks
Ultra is one of the best PSU's on the market today. The only other Power supply i would say come close to the #1 spot with Ultra would be Corsair and OCZ. Just my opinion
OCZ are crap, Ultra are crap too, i see nothing but people complaining that the X3 series failing, the best currently (in order of best,1st being best) Corsair, Seasonic, Enermax, Antec, Thermaltake ect ect
ULTRA are about #10 sorry, they're cheap, low end psu's built for people not realizing this is the most important component in your computer.they have very poor ratings and arent efficient either until recently so should be avoided like a chick with HERPES!!!!
the BEST psu's BUT not in order :
SILVERSTONE, ENERMAX, ANTEC, CORSAIR, PC POWER AND COOLING, COOLERMASTER ,THERMALTAKE,BFG
then OCZ,ULTRA,SWITCHING,DEER,ORION and all the low end, poor efficiency models and makes
@utooberblooper You forgot Seasonic, they are probably the best PSU maker to date. There newest line of PSU's was re branded by Corsair and will be released very soon. Seasonics PSU's are getting some of the best reviews I've ever seen.
Rodney, I think you should use your products for at least a month before reviewing them. I owned few different models of Ultra power supply, all of them started smoking after 2 to 4 weeks of regular use. I wasn't even overclocking. RMA'd few times and same thing. I never bothered with Ultra products ever again. My opinion is that you SHOULD NEVER buy store brand products. Like Ultra from TigerDirect (Systemax) and Insignia from Best Buy.
@njaffar how is that possible? it is maybe something wrong because these are amazing my friend has them and been working for a good 2 months so far no problems
shit...these would be brilliant in a LANbox. small form factor, complete modularity, and considerable power. I WANT IT!!!! I just wish they had stuck with the flat, "flexforce" cables that came with the X3
The socket 1156 I7 860 is known to be a little faster in some benchmarks and has been overclocked to 6.0GHz....But i would still go with the socket1366 I7 920 just because it is said the socket 1366 boards will be supporting the new 6 core Gulftowns when they come out later this year.
Rodney, I think you're the man who was able to make capacitor makers to "up" their standards, or at least come in par with with the Japanese brand capacitors, I started to hear people over the counter on computer stores asking if the psu's they're buying have Japanese capacitors, and the sales guy would either scratch his head or go on the phone to ask for more information, which is really nice though, we get the benefit of having quality products with no extra charge.
The green lights arn't the only selling point, but when all the power suppleis are so closely related in stats, the lights put it above the competion even if it's $20 more.
if going with an x58 i7 computer either get the 920 or the xeon processor with equal stats. Xeon is the same except it has slightly better casing, which improves cooling a few degrees.
Maybe, but Corsiar seems to be the most expensive brand in everything they make. I think they're just the same as everyone else, but with some extra cost for brand name.
Don't only pay attention to watts rating. Of greater significance is the amps/rail, and also the total amps capability of the 12 volt rails combined. The amps rating determines how much current can be supplied to your vid cards--any cards specs will give you a minimum requirement for the amps it requires. Not sure how that works for SLI--but probably you should assume 2 cards need twice or near to twice the amps as one.
Well I'm not 100% sure, but I'm assuming Rodney gets these things for free since he's a well known reviewer. Others probably but the items themselves and in that case they can do whatever they want with it.
That's what I'm thinking, don't quote me on it though. :P
Yeah I read a review in Driverheaven. Typical efficiency is quite good, but at 100% load it struggles to stay above 80%. Very handy for LAN-boxes though, because of it's compact size and 100% modularity.
Yes, but the 80+ test weighs efficiency under typical load more than efficiency under peak load. 80+ bronze only means that this power supply has an efficiency above 85% under typical load (60%). How much the efficiency drops at peak load depends on different PSUs, not necessarily the 80+ award.
3DGAMEMAN Thanks for talking loud in all of your videos, it really helps on some laptops that don't have very loud built in speakers (i hate toshiba for that)
Hmmm... interesting rating! I am thinkin of getting the 850W model, but I was amazed to find a product that has only 80+ Certificate and no japanese capacitors to be rated "100% kickass". Sounds like a solid argument to me for buying one :)
no.o.. its just to be completely modular.. u cant use other extension for the 24pin that is included to another one u find on the shop. this coz the included cable is made for that reason.. in fact it also has labels on the connector to tell u which part goes to psu and other to motherboard
I can't find any of Ultra's PSU's on newegg. I couldn't even find info on these PSU's on Ultra's own website, they have a link to it but absolutely nothing after you click on it. at least from what I saw. I would love to be able to include one of them in a future build, but can't find anywhere to buy them =(
What I don't understand, is how people can be confused as to what the word modular means, but they aren't confused at all by all the numbers. Go figure.
It would have been nice if you had gone over how many of and how long each connector is. Also, the 5 minute buyers guide narrative on every PSU review is unnecessary. It would be great if you focused more on the features of the particular PSU you are reviewing, the amps the watts and maybe a checklist for each of the standard features, apfc, Japanese caps, etc. it has instead of explaining the basics of PSU products in general every time. Or better yet just list what is missing if anything.$.02
no it means how the cables are u see in this u can add and take off cables this means modular and there are semi modular power supplies too, there are only some fully modular power supply like this
Modular is the the detachable connector cables you see in the video so you can use the ones that you need, and put away the others you don't. It increases airflow in your case and reduces the mess.
Modular Power Supplies allow you to disconnect or connect certain cables for you setup type (Note the plugs and no wires running directly out of the PSU), to reduce wire cluster.
i have the Corsair HX 850W with 80+gold. it has also modular cable-system and is in my opinion excellent. i power 2 4890 and a phenom 955 at 4x4.0GHZ with it. costs around 200$
LOVE CORSAIR, i have the xms ddr3, h50, and the hx 750 running on my pc. i would have gone with the case they have but i felt it was a bit on the heavy side
ya i had that one and I loved it until I plugged my drives into a bad 12 rail, and it popped some of them, making them spark and smoke... a sad day indeed. I should have left everything as it was. The worst thing was that I first thought I just blew a fuse in the PSU. I've seen it happen on some other power supplies, so I cracked it open, voiding the warranty, only to find there was no fuse to blow!
All said and done, I'd buy another one. The voltage stability on it was amazing.
What other power supply has a 100% modular design and lifetime warranty like this?
Preferably 1000-1200 watt range.

the power supply looked good, but those readings were way off what they should be.
there shouldn't be that much variation in the voltages.
hairyblue 2 years ago
They weren't that far out.
jacktaylor2115 2 years ago
yeah but power supplies have to be really accurate. i think more than 0.03V for each voltage reading is pushing it..
hairyblue 2 years ago
those voltages are perfectley fine...
on all the rails (exept for the 12v) you should be within 5% of what it should be.
for the 12v the margin is 10%.
so on the 5v you shouldn't deviate more then 0.25v. for the 3v it would be 0.165v.
so these voltages are perfect.
