The TV kind of lays out a background story to it. Divorce? see the all the booze, pills? He was trying to get over the relationship. I think he comes to terms with it at the end... it destroys the 'shadow', past, what have you. He still lives, but as an entirely different person.

I don't think the explosion wasn't really needed. Would have been good to leave it and then to the imagination. Hey ho, I like it. There are better tracks on the album.
