  • I'd have slapped that guy right back if he slapped me like that! And fought back, too. What would they have done, sent me to prison?!?

  • @eisemanrenyardjake No, they'd have beaten seven bales of shit out of you and slapped an extra charge or three on for good measure before slinging you in solitary for 6 months and pissing on your food every day. Then they'd have made sure you shared a dorm with big boris the arse rapist. Sound good?

Believe it, that's what Borstals were like. Many a brutal criminal was hardened up in that environment.

  • @roogalater So the system for helping offenders not to re-offend really works, doesn't it? By the way, how do you know this? Were you ever in a Borstal?

  • For all these eejits saying prisons too soft, you eejits probably couldn't get through 1 day, even in prisons now.

  • name and number slag

  • I ask myself why are these worse than real prisons? Why does this happen at a prison meant for children? Well the answer is because at a real prison, if they tried this shit on a real prisoner who was in for Murder I and had nothing to lose he'd pull the chair out from under that fat fuck and beat him to death with it, then he'd take the "Dwight Schrute fucked Starsky" lookin bitch and break his neck.

  • Do you Brits still have this fearsome system of youth reform? Just a question from an American..

  • @farmerne Unfortunately no, the human right morons are enemies of justice, and actually punishing criminals today is outlawed, hence why we have hundreds of thousands of teenage scum bags ruining the country today, to me, even these borstals were not harsh enough, we should torture all these hoodie/chav types, and do things to them so harsh it would make medieval torture look tame, no mercy on scum who wish to harm the innocent and ruin my great country, torture them and have no mercy I say.

  • @Faeden Well said! I'm 16 years old and I think it's horrific what children my age can get away with. I'm perfectly in control mentally and if I murdered someone for no reason other than to entertain myself I would deserve to be killed: regardless of social background (being poor isn't an excuse for not looking after your children).

  • @sheepeasy You bring me hope my friend. I know that many youngsters are not like these scummy Chavs, but its just nice to see an intelligent, respectful youngster posting here. It must be hard being your age and not being sucked into the environment of these teenager morons who try and mimic gang culture.

  • @farmerne The modern system is so opposite to this it actually repulses me. Young offenders are sent councillors rather than sent to prison. If you're under the age of 21 in Britain, you can literally murder someone and get 4 years in prison.

The context of this movie has completely changed over time, and all I want to see is our current generation (I'm 16 years old) being treated like Ray Winstone in this scene. Bring back borstal and lock the fuckers away.

  • @farmerne Sadly, no. Today's Borstals (Ahem, sorry, young offenders' instutions ) are like Kindergartens!

  • They put me in what I can only describe as a childrens prison when I was 13, and my "crime" was that I ran away from home because I was being abused. The police also did a vaginal examination on me against my will. That was 40 years ago and it caused me depression for decades and I felt like my life had been ruined. Thank God people are speaking about these things now!

  • lmfao. great movie. i love the "pick it up" "i said pick it up" fn brilliant. lmfao

  • The reality if far worse. Award winning film director Bill Maloney and his courageous camera woman Lilly Starr gain entry to the abandoned Victorian St Peter's Borstal (closed 1984) and are horrified to find stories of abuse written on the walls of the burnt-out gymnasium.

We've interviewed a man who claims they were regularly beaten and thrown naked into a concrete cellar for trivial misdemeanors.

Check out 'St Peter's child abuse advert' and pnmfilms channel.

  • werz ya fukin tool. wot fukin tool. this fukin tool. now im the fukin daddy, understand.

  • the guy sat at the des is hatchet harry from lock stock :)

  • That geezer has just got massive hands

  • The screw at the desk is the ganster boss from Lock Stock i think, i forget his name - just an observation.

  • They should still treat prisoners like that nower days.

  • @TheFunnyman98 too right prisons are too soft now

  • 50 pence for the quid

  • Speak when I tell you lad!

  • Screws were and still are terrifying, check out our latest trailer 'Adam Rickwood & The Medomsley Heroes'. Reality is worse than fiction. This was going on in the time of 'Scum'.

But this was a great film no two ways about it.

    pnmfilms.

  • Such a classic scene... Clarke was a master at that type of minimalist approach... the blank walls, the dull colours, the flashes of violence. Great stuff. And those screws are terrifying!

  • lmao at the guy with the glasses, he dishes out a good beating

  • Dam Niggers !

  • Remember this film from before. Savage really. I did some time in Ireland and it wasn't like that - no picnic but still bad enough and I'm sure there are places like Mounjoy in England too. 150 years old, we still had to slop out and there were always fights going on. A lad died in there from a fight last week so instead of what some people think there are still shithole prisons.

  • They knew how to treat thugs in those days. Today he'd be given a cushy warm cell and asked what games he's like for his waiting xbox.

  • so at induction, they should be treated like that? fuck that! i believe in discipline and know some of these boys weren't the best kids...but some were there for being abandonned, not having parents, etc. not all were vicious teenage boys. i know this kid was, but not all.

  • scum is a good film

  • isnt that 'ack-up-with-a-hatchet-Harry at the table there?

  • Yes it is..... he also had a two bit part in a film featuring Sean Connery somewhere out in space. Something called outlander

  • this movie was banned from BBC wasn't it?

  • Sort of. There was a TV film made in 1977, which the BBC never showed. In 1979, the director remade it as this feature film, with most of the original actors.

  • guy sitting down is from lock stock and two smoking barrels , he played harry the gangster who sold porn.

  • hahah oh yea, i thought he looked familiar somehow

  • behave yaself ! Or i'll do ya with my 15 inch black rubber cock

  • Love it. Is Scum the name of the movie?

  • Yeah

  • "we're having your stinking hooligan guts for garters" cheesy as fuk lol

  • I couldn't keep a straigh face if those two pricks acted the big 'un to me. I mean, did you see how they were fucking dressed?

  • Is this fearsome juvenile reform system still going on in Britain today?

  • farmerne- Not really- if this happened in prison now there would be an outcry. But its went the other way. Yobs, especially young yobs can effectively do as they please. And are sentencing system is a bad joke.

  • the sentencing system is as joke, especially the lads who killed jamie bulger but this shit still goes on. way worse in the industrial schools of years before, but it still happens.

  • bcrocker33- I know- its just grossly disproportionate. I do not want hell-hole prisons but I do want effective and tough prisons that make offenders think twice about terrorising society again. Interestingly enough though, we are not the softest system in Europe. In Sweden a gang of arsonists who murdered 68 people were given a pathetic sentence of 8 years max! And in Finland, young offenders aren't even punished!

  • I'd guess that in the 1960's they would send kids like these to the Army or Navy. Same as in the USA in those days. But now they can't send you to the service until you're 18.

  • actually in the South of the US they went to Boys' Homes or reform schools...

i would put up a link to a very sad story still going on of one but if i put up the site i don't want it to be spammed.

  • dude post it

  • Check my playlist or do a search. I've uploaded the full movie of scum!

    Great British Classic!

  • this facking toowl!!!

  • 4737 Carlin sir

  • Ray Winstone is a brilliant actor...what a great movie :)

  • i saw this movie on bravo when i was about 12 yrs old, loved it all but the rape scene, horrible shit, anyway suck my balls u hooligan scum

  • I'm an American and saw the film for the first time ever today, having come across it purely by chance. My first impression--it is a disturbing film. Having always thought of the Brits as more enlightened then us, I am dismayed by the fearsome British Youth Reformatory system depicted in this film. Is this brutal reform system still going on in the U.K.? And how true is the depiction in the film? Was it exaggerated from the reality?

  • -this was released in 1979 and as a result brought an end to Borstals in this country.

America made their own version a few years later called Bad Boys with Sean Penn.

  • The UK Criminal Justice Act ended borstals in 1982. Some people who were in borstals in the 1970s think the film is realistic but others have said that the violence e.g. riots, gang rapes, suicide attempts was exagerated. Either way, it still has brilliant acting...anyone who anyone in Brit movies today was in Scum or the other two classics by director Alan Clark, Made in Britain and the Firm

  • Welcome to the Borstal! We got fun and games! :P Sorry, it had to be said. XD

  • IM THE DADDY HERE!

  • that was like my first day at fukin school

  • Oh so you went to Caterham boys school in the 1970s as well?

  • yer i bet all the kids in borstal were glad they didnt have to get good educations and go on to uni

  • great film one of the best.

  • Classic, absolute classic. Verges on black comedy at times.

  • true in every aspect

  • one of the best and most powerful films made. an absolute classic, along with nil by mouth.

  • Yes, Borstal was actually like that and Yes this is the way the government treat all prisoners domestic and foreign.

    :)

  • Why?

  • wierdo

  • lol it scared the fuck out of me i dunno who you can jack off to it

  • really good film!!! fuck the system!!!

  • I saw this film recently on ITV4, one viewing of this film was enough. This film depicts how tough and hard life in a borstal is, and they're still the same in today's society. The rape scene where Davis got cornered in the greenhouse by the three boys was upsetting and at the same time disturbing

  • How is this channel a partner??? isint this film copywrited. some people have videos removed due to copyrights and others are given partnership. Youtube needs to read its own rules

  • I hate cocky prison wardens who abuse their power. I wish they'd made a sequel where Carlin's out on the street and he bumps into these guys without their rules and regulations to protect them...

  • lets be honest mate those screws would destroy him as carlin is nothing compared to them

  • Think so? In my own experience, people who attack someone when they know full well the other won't fight back have 'PUSSY' tattooed across their head in giant letters.

I once got into a fight with about 10 youths. For all their brutal, hardcore punching and kicking, the worst injury they gave me was a bruised lip. The moral? Bullies are crap at fighting in an even match.

Carlin could have those two for breakfast if he weren't in an environment where they could extend his sentence.

  • Excellent point and well said! There are always people who are absolute chickenshit with not much to say and very little bite behind the bark one-on-one. Put them together with others like them and then their egos are out their arses as they pretend they are so bloody hard. The one thing they never count on is what happens when you push someone too far and send them over the edge... Carlin isnt in a position to fight back - but one day he very well could be. Tables really would be turned then.

  • Are you really having an argument about 'who's harder'? How old are you - 13?

(Who do you think would win in a fight between Superman and Batman?)

  • Batman any day. He's far smarter and more resourceful. Superman's nothing without his powers.

  • I think you could be right.

  • lol brilliant.

  • The Hulk would fuck 'em both up.

  • @Sangrenegra9 not sure how you come to the decision that someone labelled a 'bully' are automatically crap at fighting. Fighting is a thin line - one punch and it can be over wither way

  • @sweetypie000 - I suppose the point I was attempting to make is that a genuine tough guy wouldn't vent their false bravado/feelings of inadequacy on someone who they know either can or won't fight back.

Bullies go for easy targets because they're too weak/spineless to deal with a genuine opponent. Guards who abuse prisoners/police who misuse their authority are particular examples, but you get them in all walks of life.

  • @Sangrenegra9 *can't

  • Lol :)
