Common sense tells you that if the protest is peaceful the police will not bother you. Obviously it was not peaceful and the police had to be brought in. The police response was planned a year ahead of time, and organizers for a peaceful protest were spied on an jailed under terrorist charges granted by MN's version of the Patriot Act. I can't say what happened, since I was not there, but the pictures speak pretty clearly. The police used pepper spray a lot, and some protesters damaged private and public property. Honestly, it's not very becoming of a peaceful demonstration when one wears a mask resembling those of bandits from old wild-west flicks, or when they wear gas masks and ignore police warnings ("Subject to chemical ??? if you do not disperse!").
There WERE NOT orders to disperse. protesters wear masks because they know it's likely that there will be chemical agents used. It's a defensive measure. Nobody's trying to look like a bandit. Cops put on the gas masks first.

The police do not just start gassing people for no reason and like I have said over and over again if you want to criticize them so much why don't you try doing their job and put your self in their shoes.

They have gas masks because police have a tendency towards excessive force because they feel threatened due to being out numbered. I wish the marchers in selma were armed or would you say they were looking for trouble as well?

You have to consider a few things. The police response was planned a year ahead of time, and organizers for a peaceful protest were spied on an jailed under terrorist charges granted by MN's version of the Patriot Act. The police response was backed by a lot of money for new toys and was incredibly brutal and disproportionate. I'm speaking as a witness.

theres a difference between a riot and a peaceful protest. all the violence enacted at the RNC was done by the police and not the folks marching. we should have every right to march down the streets in protest. if Americans are really free that is?

There was nothing peaceful about the way they were protesting!! The things they did is what makes it a riot. Braking things destroying property call qualifies as riot.

where you there? I was, the few causing trouble were paid by the city to start trouble and they are the ones that walked away unharmed. I'm sure there were a few immature people causeing trouble but they are in the minority and should be dealt with accordingly. there is no reason to endanger everyone for the sake of a few. this was a peacfull march and a peacefull protest until up untill that point. watch some more footage uptake videos has some really good footage of what really happened.

thank you for speaking the truth. there is so much information about what happened here and anger towards the protestors. we have every right to be heard. check out the RNC 8, a group of young kids who organized the welcoming committee before the protests and are now facing severe jail time. thier property was searched and siezed and many rumors where made up by the media as to what they were planning. they are in desperate need of funds for legal fees so spread the word.

I can't speak for thousands of people, I don't know what you consider a true patriot. I consider myself a patriot, and I love the people in my country but I'm ashamed of my government. and I have to say it is evident by your last comment that you have something against hippie's. I can only comment on what I witnessed myself. and I don't know what this so called campaign for liberty is. but I am always about trying to get back our liberties.

police was wrong dam rite i was there i barely escaped bein arrested at roberts street by climbing into the skyway n running to the ecolab building i also was witness from the skyway how several of my fellow protesters were bein taken n pushed around. like animals.
I find it amazing that they do this to peaceful protesters and dont do the same about gang violence on 5 de mayo celebrations of west st paul

Peaceful protestors? lol...clearly you missed the broken windows on the police cars and other damage to property that was inflicted.
Also...just asking them to leave wont do anything. So force needs to be taken. Don't play like they did anything wrong and you're angry because you dont agree with the republican party.

I can't say what happened, since I was not there, but the pictures speak pretty clearly. The police used pepper spray a lot, and some protesters damaged private and public property. Honestly, it's not very becoming of a peaceful demonstration when one wears a mask resembling those of bandits from old wild-west flicks, or when they wear gas masks and ignore police warnings ("Subject to chemical ??? if you do not disperse!").

There WERE NOT orders to disperse. protesters wear masks because they know it's likely that there will be chemical agents used. It's a defensive measure. Nobody's trying to look like a bandit. Cops put on the gas masks first.
