  • Hello Andrew, Im looking for abit of help! Im thinking of climbing Crib Goch this late May, not done any scrambling before! Climbed Scafell Pike last May & i'm quite fit and young - applying for the Royal Marines. Was just wondering if the weather is good - is it ad\/isable for myself and two no\/ice climbers (all applying for the marines, young & fit) to climb it? Or best to stick to the Pyg Track or something similar? Thanks for the help, Andy :D

  • @andy1yido Hi Andy. If you're fit and healthy, have a good head for heights, and like a bit of adventure, then it should be fine for you. Just make sure you check the weather forecast, that you're properly equiped for the weather, take a map and compass (and know how to use them), and that you let someone know you're going. It's a great ridge, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

  • @andrewdavid68 Thanks alot for the ad\/ice mate, we will head up towards it and judge the weather conditions along the way! Awesome \/ideo by the way :)

  • Breathtaking. To this midwestern Yank Snowdon looks spectacular, and just about as high as I'd ever want go.

  • my dad just climed that looks fooking trecharous

  • Excellent route, well done to both of you. Doing this next year when the good weather arrives, really looking forward to it. I got sweaty palms just watching :D

  • we watched this because my aunt is on this moutain.

  • Great to watch

  • you got some big cahonas dude

  • I went up a route that had sheer drops like this... one side was a drop, other a rock, and the ground was ice, ICE!! Scary as shit when people went past you.

  • Snowdon is 3560 feet high...Everest is 29000 feet.

But at least its higher than the worlds tallest buliding which is 2717 feet...

  • @cymrutroll Highest does not mean hardest

  • Well id say K2 is pretty hard. and thats no.2 highest.

  • Brilliant vid this, I could no more do Crib Goch than I could eat my own goolies. Pyg Track for me every time.

  • I love Crib goch done it a few times now, but your approach looks dangerous to me; I hope you were wearing sun cream!!! LOL

  • Crib Goch is fantastic, incredible views up there. Not one for the vertigo sufferers! I'd go early on or during the week to avoid the crowds. I wouldn't want to be up there backed up in a queue.

Planning to do the entire horseshoe ridgewalk sometime soon.

  • Looks great and I feel like going on that ridge right now.

Thing is id probably freeze on the spot as I'm scared of extreme heights.

  • How long is that drop to the right? Looks scary

  • I did this yesterday in the mist- first time i've done anything like it, fortunately i had an experienced mate with me. I'm not ashamed to say I was bricking it most of the way. 3 points of conatct and slow and steady for me. Take my hat of to these boys, balls of steel and balance to match!

  • i suffer from vertigo i have climbed helvallyn across stridders edge keeping to the peak all the way across which was pretty nerve racking at parts, especially when i had to climb down a rock face to a ledge and below the ledge was a very scary drop,, my cousin told me if i was going to climb crib goch then it would be better for me to climb the peak of striders edge to get me use to it.

I realy want to climb crib goch but could do with some advice before i do to kind of proper myself for it,...

  • @lennypen1978 If you've done Striding Edge, then you should be OK, although Crib Goch is longer and a bit more exposed. Take a map and compass, suitable clothing and enough food and water. Make sure it's a good weather forecast, and let someone know you're going.

  • @andrewdavid68 you dont realy need a compass and map on crib goch... just keep going on :)

  • @lennypen1978 its no big deal, i did this when i was 10 years old.

  • @snakee666 its funny because fear of hights is something thats developed more with my age i wasnt that scared of hights when i was younger,, but saying that you wouldnt of seen me up there at ten years old

  • @lennypen1978 andrews advice is spot on,just take your time and remember the 3 contact point rule , dont forget to stop and take in the views as it is pretty amazing.

  • What a stunning piece of film - how the HELL did you keep the guy in front centre shot, while doing this difficult ridge walk? This shows people what it's REALLY like. I did this walk about 7 years ago.

  • @lesjsin Thanks - you're very kind.

  • Brilliant! Full credit to the guy filming too!

Can't be easy to scramble and climb up there whilst filming.

  • This is all very good but have you experienced the rush of the train ride down?! ;)

  • I love it !

  • off to do that saturday cannot wait!

  • A stunning route, did it just once... in 1966

  • @MrStan1941 Before I was even born Stan, and I'm sure people will be enjoying the route after we're long dead too.

  • It's all well and good admiring the guy in shot, but kudos to the cameraman/woman for filming whilst keeping up! :)

  • To musi być wspaniałe uczucie! Wspaniale jest czegoś takiego móc doświadczyć! Podziwiam! Życzę dalszych wspaniałych doświadczeń.

  • @lidiabarbara1 Here's a translation for those who don't speak Polish,

"It must be a great feeling! It's great to be able to experience anything like this! I admire! Please keep up the wonderful experience."

    Glad you liked it Lidia.

  • Went this way on the way back from snowdon but had to take a path lower down on the left due to so many people going the other way but still very rewarding, i'd worried about it so much I enjoyed it and hadn't realised i'd done it until I reached the end, but would never do it in good visibility.

  • @owainmeurig Ar y chwith ar y ffordd i lawr (h.y. o'r gorllewin i'r dwyrain)? Rhaid i hynny fod yn amhosib - mae'r wyneb gogleddol yn rhy serth o bell ffordd.

  • @MegaTories Na ar y dde ar y ffordd i lawr ond chwith yn y fideo, nid llwybr go iawn ond hanner llwybr sydd yn rhedeg yn parallel i'r crib (falle cyn neu ar ol) ar yr ochr deheuol, llawer haws nag mynd ar y crib eu hun yn erbyn y traffic.

  • @owainmeurig Diolch am y cyngor.

  • I suffer from vertigo and even this video makes me feel dizzy, excellent watching though!

Been up to the summit twice but maybe one day I might follow (carefully) in your footsteps.

  • @cowpat1979 Glad you liked it. I can recommend it as a not-too-challenging scramble in good weather.

  • Been there twice and each time the wind was to strong next time i hope..

  • Guys dont listen to the 'you are idots' comments. Think of all the idiots that get pissed on a weekend and end up in A&E because of drunk accidents - you say your an ML of 20 years - it shows!. I've crossed the Crib - not as quick as that, the drop to the left is mega (and it was snowing!).

  • you look sure footed and competent, although the gear you'r not wearing will lead to bad injuries if you were to loose your footing, ask a biker

  • Excellent video. I did the scramble last Tuesday having watched this. I can confirm that it is alot tougher (physically as well as technically) than you make it look. It is an incredible place to be.

  • Good vid chaps. Could you tell me the postcode of the best place to park to do that walk? Cheers

  • @gerbutt LL55 4NY

  • @andrewdavid68 thanks bud

  • @andrewdavid68 thaks for that bud

  • I wish you idiots would stop bleeting on about mountain rescue this and mountain resue that, firstly they love there job secondly we all appreciate them being there and thirdly what is the point in trekking/climbing/bagging/mountaineering if you take away the element of risk.

  • We did Crib Goch yesterday in wet weather and low cloud couldn't see anything which was a shame. We didn't see another person on the whole ridge either. Tone & Vince

  • I did this 20 years ago, though I now find it hard to believe. An absolutely wonderful experience. We did it in perfect still weather. To be handled with care, i.e. unless you have proper mountain skills don't do it on your own or in poor weather.

ps if you are impressed by the walker, what about the person filming (look mum, no hands?)

  • I did this in the snow whilst enveloped by cloud and winds. It was fucking dangerous.

  • Idiots, mountain rescue volunteers risk their lives to rescue people like this.

  • @kickabout1 Before you cast aspertions on the capabilities or otherwise of myself and my colleague, you should consider a few points. Moving quickly in the mountains, is not a recipe for disaster when the people doing it know what they are doing, and can in fact be the safest way of moving. I don't recommend it for inexperienced folk, but I'm a fully qualified mountain leader with 20 years' of experience in many mountain ranges around the world, and am quite capabale of assessing risk.

  • @kickabout1 Fuck off lad, at least they are doing something with there lives, instead of sitting at home criticizing people over the internet. Great vid lads, try watching it on mute with nathan fake - the sky was pink playing, makes it that much more epic

  • its because of people lie you that the mountain rescue service gets called out umpteen times a week

  • @andrewdavid68 well said mate! I take my hat off to you for this vid. Ive done all routes to the sumit of Snowdon except this one....i feel so uneasy and discouraged but yet so inquisitive when it comes to Crib Goch.... I am just so worried of freezing, its amazing to watch how natural you seem to stride upon the ridge... you must have been a mountain goat in your past life :-)

  • Did it last weekend, awesome stuff, came up the buttress and went along the goch to the saddle on Snowdon, can't wait to do it again. Weather was great which gave fantastic views also.

  • Is this more difficult than Sharp Edge?

  • its very hard to do with a cuple of slip i did it in half an hour

  • A braver person than me!!! I don't think I would ever attempt this. Went up the easy path (Llanberis) this week and the winds at the top were horrendous ... wouldn't want to attempt Crib Goch on a windy day .... if ever!!

Your camera person was very brave too and deserves a mention :o)

  • A braver person than me!!! I don't think I would ever attempt this. Went up the easy path (Llanberis) this week and the winds at the top were horrendous ... wouldn't want to attemt Crib Goch on a windy day .... if ever!!

  • this is amazing.

    what does scrambling mean?

  • @fsdeez Scrambling is to move along a mountain route that is harder than a walk, and will necessitate the use of the hands every now and again to overcome easy climbing sections.

  • Went up Snowdon via the Pyg path and decided to do something different for the decent, someone asked if anyone had done this route and I put my hand up as having done it (wrong, it was the East Ridge I had done). When we got down Crib y Ddysgl I admitted that the route was far harder than I remembered. We looked at what faced us (Crib Goch Ridge). I was game but there was no way that I was going to take my son over there. So we decended from the col on grass and screes back on to the miners path

  • CAUTION! After our calm blue sky day the very next day it was blowing a lot and a young 11 yr old kid was blown off Crib Goch and killed! Poor little chap. This is NOT a mountain to take lightly.

  • This is SO well filmed. Top man. Great route. I agree it is really a fine weather route and also the other sensible comments. I took my wife and a family friend Gwen up the Watkin path (I've always wanted to say that! think I should rephrase it?) Anyway Gwen was bout 62 at the time and Sue my wife had never been up Snowdon. Gwen has done loads of mountain walking but never done Crib Goch. When we reached Snowdon summit the day was so still and clear we went for it. Amazing.

  • where abouts in england is this i plan to visit in the fall?

  • @ramies37 It´s in north west Wales, near Llanberis, Snowdonia.

  • That is hideously amazing !!!!

I was offered the chance to do this with a friend I'd made trekking, and on viewing this and you doing it, thought no f**king way !!

I've got a real scare of heights, but would LOVE to do this one day.

I hear you loud and clear to not attempt this in ONLY fine weather, but what 'practical' tips could you give ??

    Thanks,

    Jez

  • @Jez2008UK Let someone know you´re going. Take a map, compass (know how to use them), check the weather forecast, be prepared for the weather to change suddenly, take food and water.

  • scrambling is underrated

  • fucking awesome

  • Awesome. Do you know the name of that route?

    Thanks for sharing.

  • @ianawilliams It´s called "Crib Goch".

  • Awesome. Do you know the name of that route?

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Kids, never do this in a snowstorm with high winds. Been there, done that, not smart, not fun!

  • Try watching Crib Goch xxx - the best

  • Unbelievable - especially how can the guy hold the camera so steadily and stilll go so fast so close to te edge. It scares me to death to watch them. Excellent!

  • Unbelievable - especially how can the guy hold the camera so steadily and stilll go so fast so close to te edge. It scares me shitless to watch them. Excellent!

  • done tryfan twise on a bad day .This is more like it 10out off 10 to these brave climers.I no id be more carfall..

  • Just did this yesterday, scared the life out of me. Once you're up there there's no going back.

  • what advise could you give a 17 year old with no experience, gear, training or whatever but hyped up on adrenaline going to do this mountain??? i'm guessing don't do it?

  • @irongut12345 Well, youthful enthusiasm is certainly a great thing, and you can end up having all kinds of exciting experiences, but as a mountain professional, I would have to suggest that you get a bit of experience first, take some basic equipment with you when you finally do it, and wait for a day of good settled weather.

  • @irongut12345 I was in the same situation and did this 4 days ago!

Its not as hard as it looks, if you have no experience I would sergest climing a few steps down and holding on to the top of the ridge :)

  • @irongut12345

The safest way would be to join one of your local mountaineering clubs. They'll sort you out.

  • @irongut12345 I think the best experience is experience itself. I love the mountains, and have never been able to keep myself from climbing to the tops when I get to the feet of them since I was about 16. I say if you feel the climb, go for it. Just be smart, take chances, but don't be an idiot. Losing your strength, getting stuck high up, or pulling off a hold and falling to your death HAPPENS. A god doesn't prevent you from death, you do. Remember that. Be safe.

  • I got back from North Wales yesterday after staying a week at Penmachno and i thought long and hard about doing Grib Goch, basically i bottled it!!! the weather was poor (yeah yeah you're saying) Anyone that has the balls to scramble this.....well hats of to them. Awesome. The guy recording it.... you're a legend!!

  • @peebee39 There is no shame in changing your mind if you don't feel safe. It will still be there for you another time when the weather is better. I've done Crib Goch a couple of times, and I've also once intended to do it but opted out because of the weather. If the forecast is marginal, you can always go as far as Bwlch y Moch and take a look before deciding whether to do Crib Goch. If you then decide not to, you can still go up the Pyg Track, or drop down to the lake and then do Y Lliwedd.

  • this is extreme...i went up the rydd du path to the summit of snowdon and theres a ridge at the end which is quite hairy but still pales beside this

  • Fair play to you doing it at such speed. When I did it I went much slower and used my hands a lot more. Maybe next time I'll be more adventurous.

  • sorry commenting again now i seen it in full. awesme vid! is it pretty much game over if you were to fall? is it safe? i know i sounds stupid, but i want to do something like thi, but i got a phobia of heights.

  • Respect. For camera man. :-)

  • very awesome video....the camera mans gotta be twice as good as the guy in the front for being able to film and scramble at the same time . Where is this mountain ?

  • @yourshitjusthitmyfan Thank you. North Wales, UK.

  • did this last week, loved it. goin to tryfan for the first time tomorrow, can't wait!

  • Many people have met their death on this ridge.

  • @wikichris really? is it a big fall on either side? i want to d smethng like this, but i got a slight fear of heights....

  • @drew2pac Seriously. People fall off or have to be rescued all the time. That doesn't mean for one second if you're careful you should be terrified and not go...just be careful. Just don't go unless the weather is spot on. One side is a big big drop and the other ain't much better.

  • Frikking good pace lads. Nicely done.

  • Awesome video of this, best I've seen!

  • After seeing this video I will be doing it Saturday. How long would it take to walk to the summit of snowdon starting at pyg track via crib goch?

    Any advise?

  • @samhogan88 About 2 - 2.5 hours, have fun!

  • check out crib goch on facebook and join the group if youve done the traverse

  • i can do it running with my jeans

  • im looking to do this soon any tips or not is it easy?:L

  • @cardiffgrimeX3 If you've done some scrambling before, and you have a good head for heights, then it's not too bad. Tell someone you're going, take a map and a compass, good clothing, and consider leaving it for another day if it's windy and / or wet.

  • @andrewdavid68 ive never been before would be first time (: i can climb fairly easly and walk fine os will i be fine and its with some family (:

  • This is the best vid I've seen of this traverse. I did this last week for the first time and it looks much more scary on the video than in real life!!!! I think that's bacuase when you are doing it you are 100% focussed on where your feet are going andyou are not loooking at the drop off on the right side!!

  • Well done lads. That was incredible! I did Crib Goch yesterday although not as quickly as that. You both have balls of steel.

  • Old stomping ground

  • holy shit.......how long does it go like that for? okay yeah I see

  • Buzzed me out, best ridge ive done!!!!!!!!!! i had my dog with me and he was buzzing aswell hahahaha

  • I did this route yesterday and it was my first climb - he makes it look easy but it is scarey in parts.

If you do this, make sure you go prepared.

  • Oh lord thats intense! I did the Llanberis path a few weeks back but didnt get to the top cos of ice. Going again this sunday tho with crampons. Really wanna do Crib Goch one day if i get the confidence!! Think im gonna need a bit more experience first though. Great video, 5*

  • This guy makes it look so easy haha even the camera guy but sod that lol. I tried . Nice 1 boys

  • @CYMRUTUBE

i di the 15 in a day with pals and was probably teh hardest thing i've done.. we made snowdon peak for daybreak and traversed this ridge shortly after. Probably the most fearful moment of my life but viewws were worth it.. Do it in Jun/Jul.. Do it..

  • Holy sheep shit i had to hold on to me sofa watchin this , Edmond Hilary eat your heart out, well done, might try it meself once i've peeled me white knuckles off the sofa

  • Thanks for that guys! First traversed the ridge in 1965 - weather was poor, low cloud so we saw nothing of the drop either side - doubt if my legs would get me up to the start now. Lovely to watch again though, many thanks.

  • @CamberwellSE5 Glad you liked it. It is still there if you fancy another go!

  • excellent video ill be trying an easier one for now but may do this one in the future

  • I would love to do that but my arse won't let me, so i'll stay happily on low level terra firma

  • Excellent video, We thought going up the zig zags in thick snow and zero visibility was scary but this one is something else again!

  • Thank you both for your understanding, I can assure you it hasn't happened and never will happen again. Maybe I'll see you up there some time :-)

  • Crazy Ridge!

  • Nice. Did this in rain and fog and galeforce winds last year wearing jeans and trainers. Couldn't see more than 10ft in front of us. Gutted I missed all that scenery

  • You are the sort of dickhead that costs mountain rescue teams a fortune each year, potentially putting your own, and other peoples lives in danger. 10 feet visibility and gale force winds in jeans and trainers. and you're proud of it?

  • I was taken by poeple who said they knew what they were doing, they said my attire would be fine. I had no idea what I was getting into. I have since learned to use a map and compass and bought all the proper gear. As you must know, there is no turning back after a certain point so yes, I am proud that I did it whilst cold and scared and slipping all over the place without bothering anyone else. I understand your anger though, I shouldn't have trusted my mates and researched it myself first.

  • Fair response, and as someone has written, it is an achievement I suppose. Good to hear you have got yourself prepared for future activities- Good luck !

  • @mongatoid

he might doubt it but it's a bloody achievement!

  • I'm glad everyone understands the potentially serious nature of this outing. I've also done it in horrendous conditions, in snow, in ice, in wind, in rain, when I've been fully aware of how raw the natural world can be. Time in the hills is a learning experience, and we all have to start getting that experience somewhere.

And I'd appreciate it if people restrain themselves from using bad, angry language please.

  • @andrewdavid68 ..You are right about time in the hills being a learning experience but within reason surely? Crib Goch is hardly a place for a beginer to start getting that experience is it?

  • Not exactly ideal no! :-) But it does at least sound as though MahatmaAndy10101 is moving on responsibly.

  • Cool vid bro!

(I've got a couple slideshows of Canadian scrambles on my page)

We have a nice exposed ridge traverse in Canmore, Alberta on Mount Lady McDonald...this is a good idea for a vid!

  • be a bad place to get stuck with a thunderstorm.

  • you definitely have to concentrate doing that! the drop on the right keeps you on your toes! cool vid

  • Pen y Fan is the highest peak in South Wales but not much more than a hill. Crib is one of the 15 peaks over 3,000 ft in Snowdonia. I know that's no great height in the grand scheme of things but most of them start from not far above sea level and they are all either craggy, scree, or both. Simply fabulous, all of them.

  • Did this ridge a couple of times looks more scary than I remember mabye I was concentraiting and had my blinkers on! ,hats of to the camera man or did he have one of those minicams on his head

  • No, no headcam, just a hand-held camera.

  • Nice video. But why comment about old person. I did Crib Goch on my 40th, and 50th birthdays and hope I will do it on my 60th in a couple of years. I've done it when ice has been forming on the rocks from wind blown mist- forming little flowers of ice. I enjoyed the video. I wonder if I could hang glide from the top?

  • Did this yesterday. Not quite in just shorts though! Good scramble, but you are mad!

  • balls of steel man!

  • where exactly is that? looks nice and well deserving a visit

  • its in wales, in a place called snowdonia - in the UK

  • haha and i thought striding edge was ropy

  • don Snowdon loads of times it is great but i dnt know if i culd do that. What i want 2 know why there was randomley this old women..lol

  • Actually, that was a man...

  • amazing

  • fuck that! id shit myself if i looked over the other side

  • we are doing snowdon next month, and we was planning to do this route. but after seeing this video... fuck that for a game of soldiers!!

  • LOL My ex girlfriend was an experienced walker and I wasn't, My first mountain with her was Glyder Fach and then she wanted me to do this !! she had never done it herself...... my answer was the same as yours !!

  • lmao it looks like it would be an amazing rush, but i simply dont think i have the bottle. i go saturday, and still undecided

  • is that bear grylls in front ? .

  • You just gave me the worst case of vertigo I ever had watching a climbing video. Never seemed that bad in real life as everthing was shrouded in mist.

    Great video!!!

  • Top notch man, well done.Looks scary as hell but id giv a go myself like.

  • best crib coch vid I've seen

  • Did this yesterday....you guys are crazy lol

  • Doing Crib Goch on the 19th sept looking forward to it. SCARY but you only live once, Could get run over tomorrow folks get out there and live!!!

  • The fella with the camera should work for the discovery channel! That was amazing. How the hell do you walk along it? I got up crib goch and as soon as I saw the ridge I went back down!

  • You guys are mental - We've just done this walk and couldn't see much 'cos of the cloud cover - kept getting a glimpse of the drop and sh*t ourselves!

    Fantastic video - nutters

  • i did this way cus the other routes looked boring and dull in comparison even though i did not want to climb this mountain in the first place my mum made me do it anyway, yeah i sound like a mummys boy but i ended up doin it the cool way haha but once you have done it you feel much better about yourself. i recommend it to anyone, i even saw a 10 year old on the ridge but lol

  • I have just done this walk today! In the fog! Scary as hell!

  • Ace!!! I'm doing it the day after tomorrow XD...looks a bit worse then striding edge on Helvellyn...but that was easy. lol

  • asome wel done guys!!!!!

  • Jesus! you guys must have massive Boll**ks.

  • Did my first ever mountain walk (climb) last Friday with 11 mates, which started up the Pyg Track and then up and over Crib Goch and have never shit myself so much in all my life! We tried to do the Welsh 3000, but only managed to do 7 out of the 14 mountains. My legs have refused to work properley since!

Hats off to you two guys.

  • Respect to the cameraman! Was he (she) able to look at his feet much. Probably not. Deserves a job with Bear Grylls.

  • It's a he. Just watched the end.

  • Did it at 4am-ish on July 3rd last - wonderful, surreal

  • Doing this at 4 in the morning on Saturday... Oh Joy... ;D
