  • great song, i first heard the song in the mid 70s as a 7 yr old and then nto again till KWGN used it in a commerical advertizing Original Star Trek series airing at 10 pm m-f in the very early 90's

  • this stuff was cool. and fun nto play in a tavern band. great album cover its a classic.

  • I'm sure you know where it is at, Yeah! Yeah!

  • Steve sure likes singing about his previous songs: Space Cowboy mentions Living in the U.S.A. and Gangster of Love. The Joker mentions Space Cowboy, Gangster of Love and Enter Maurice. Trying to sell his back catalog perhaps? ;)

  • Outstanding - bought this when it first came out. Fuck all you dislikes.

  • Love love love it! Yes, correctly labeled the song - applause!

  • Yeah, this song rocks. I hate the fact that people mistake this for the Joker.

  • @klondikekatt Do you really hate that? Does that REALLY bother you?

  • @Velvet4U lol, It bothers me for about 5 seconds, until I explain the fact. Then I forget about Steve Miller for another 10 yrs.

  • @klondikekatt How is that even possible?

  • Bet You Weren' t Ready For That!! Bass Bass

    Bump Bump

  • This song is funky. Recommended for "Cowboy Bebop" fans.

  • @MadScout Hell yes, friend!!!!!

  • @MadScout That's exactly what I was thinking. I'm surprised they didn't use it lol

  • @MadScout I would also add this to fans of Star Trek, Star Wars and Star Blazers series

  • @Silverfox7771 dont forget firefly, ultimate space western right there

  • 2 people are not feeling the space cowboy....

  • no body calls you that

  • Space Cowboy - Miller, Steve Band [San Francisco, California] - 1969 - "AMG Pick. 'Space Cowboy,' one of several songs co-written with Ben Sidran, defined one of Miller's many personas. One of my favorites by him." - Brave New World (Capitol)-1989.

  • One of the best geetar solos ever.

  • @smilingpug A geetar? Gee, I havent heard of one of those before...

  • did not steve Miller play college football?

  • Thank you i was looking for this forever every time i think i found its the joker...

  • Outstanding ... saw him in concert ... wow

  • I hate to admit it, but I do love Steve's music. I mean, half the songs he wrote came from the drugs he was buying up but I still love them.

  • Never a Better Song.

And I know where it is at.

  • Steve Miller was never better.

  • I wore out this 8-track - man, what a band!

  • i wonder why i am to addictive of this song \w/ rock on SMB

  • My dad played drums with Les Paul. On a tuesday at Fat Tuesdays he was giving me guitar advice. He kept saying "STYLE not Speed man" and "I invented the damn thing Y'know" (I knew) and "I taught little Stevie Miller to play Y'know, and look how much STYLE he gets from simple chords". SM praises from me -and the inventor !

  • I first heard this when I was 19. What a blast. SMB rocks. You don't need to be high to appreciate this. My 22 year old daughter loves SMB.

  • You had to be there, in so many ways, when tracks like this one flooded your sky-eyed visions, powered your flights to realms inside where only the best would do. Always, along the way I'd turn at least once to Steve. Which way next?

  • I personally think this song is about 20 too short! This is also one of those 100mph songs, you know? You're driving along and listening to "Space Cowboy", and when the cop finally pulls you over and tickets you for driving 100mph!!!!

  • @Paiste2002100 ....in a 25 mile per hour zone on LSD and half a handle of soco.

  • Yes thank you Dominator8146, Amazing music must be appreciated and must be labelled correctly. Attention people: The Joker is infact NOT Space Cowboy, that is just a joke (pun intended).

  • Brave New World. Great cd kids get it!

What happened to this guy anyway? Those first 4 or 5 albums were ace, especially the first 2 with Boz Scaggs. Cool song, my brother and I saw him play this at the Filmore! I think Beatle Paul plays on this album somewhere. Then Steve became a comedy act.

  • @j0eX Paul McCartney (as "Paul Ramon") did bass, drums, and vocals on "My Dark Hour" and "Celebration Song."

  • @jpheitman Interesting, thanks!

  • @j0eX ....it took you 11 months to reply to my comment?...

  • to all the space riders of the world! Fly high or low in the dark and in the light! until the end! Love life in all its way!

  • I've had this ditty swirling thru my head for nearly 40 years. A late friend of mine had the album, Best of, and this song immediately captured my consciousness back in 1972. I remember ooooh so well putting the vinyl in his parents' console stereo when they were out and ROCKING! It is one of my all-time favorites. Steve Miller played it at a concert I attended in 1976 at the Shiner Ranch just outside Austin. Man I wish I could remember more about that concert, but it was a head trip for me.

  • Right on !!! This is THE song. Its been stuck in my head for 30 some odd years. Thank you for posting this-somehow its been mislabled over the years. Thank God for You Tube

  • Gee, you guys leaving these comments are all so much smarter, better educated and better looking than me. I am nothing, less than nothing! I don't deserve to listen to either of the Space Cow Songs. Someone should do the world, you guys and Steve Miller (God son of Les Paul) a favor and kill me!

  • Love Steve Miller.....But this is my favorite!

  • GREAT background song to use in a video about the 1975 major league baseball season, ESPECIALLY where the 1975 WORLD SERIES CHAMPION CINCINNATI REDS, 1975 NATIONAL LEAGUE MVP JOE MORGAN AND 1975 WORLD SERIES MVP PETE ROSE ARE CONCERNED!!!!

  • space cowboy would be such a cooler term if it wasn't in the song joker, i think he has so many better songs than that one.

  • Awesome! I'm a Space Cowboy! My 11 year old grandauter thinks this song is great. Still hope in the world.

  • Excellent song. And I'll echo what's been said about searching for Space Cowboy and getting The Joker instead. I don't even like the song The Joker.

  • This was the second song I learned to play on guitar by ear. Still love it! Thanks for the post.

  • Reminds me of the good old days of my favorite FM album rock station. This would be an excellent song for a local band to add to their repertoire - an easy, familiar riff and sounds great!

  • GREAT TUNE! Glad to see someone knows the difference between this and the awful "Joker". Thanks!

  • Beck sings "Lady Madonna".

  • Hell yeah! Bet you weren't ready for that?

  • Smooth so smooth. This is the way it should sound.

  • One of the best simple geetar solos ever.

  • Looks like two fat cats (or possibly a prayer and surveyor) don't like this song.

  • A trip ( he, he !) down memory lane. This was my CB radio handle back in the day. Fun times. Thanks for stimulating the old brain with this one !

  • Thumbs up For 60's & 70's Classic Rock!!!!!!!!

  • Let me tell you, one person even had the nerve to write in annotations in his video of The Joker as "Yes, I know that the name of this song is The Joker, but when most people search Space Cowboy, they mean The Joker. That's how you found it right?"

No, that's not what I meant. I searched Space Cowboy, and I wanted damn Space Cowboy.

I can't tell you how much respect I have for you for doing it right.

  • Such a great track - like a fusion of English Mod and Hawkwind!

Ihaven't heard this in years - thanks!

  • When I think of Steve Miller I think of this song!! He'll always be the Space cowboy to me.NEVER the Joker !!

  • the background music sounds like mario 3 when mario faces off an enemy from off the map. But I love this song. And mario.

  • Great Stuff!! Thank you! Steve Miller... Great American Rock Artist!!

  • Sounds like a 'Beck' song.

  • @jleblan1 you mean beck sounds like a steve miller song-steve was around long before beck!!!!

  • Finally someone correctly labeled the song. Give a round of applause, everyone.

  • Not just the real thing, but the full version :):):):):D:D:D:D:D I LOVE YOU!!

  • Thank you for putting this song on. I've been looking for it for a while.

  • Finally! Yes, this is the song my friends used to baptise me. Everytime I look for this I find The Joker - which is cool. Space Cowboy is one of the first lyrics. But this is THE song, spacey sound effects and all. Dominator, you're my new best friend.

  • Thank you so much! The only other Space Cowboy I've found has horrible quality.

  • finally somebody not labeling the joker as space cowboy.

  • Thank you

  • I bought this CD just for this solo.

  • I was with the 134th Artillery in Iraq and this song got played more than any other. The rhythm of this tune goes well with an artillery barrage.

  • Listening to the chorus for the first time, I could have mistaken it for something by Alice in Chains. Hard to believe a song like this came out in 1969.

  • thumbs up if you finally found this vid after finding 10 million videos being labelled incorrectly as "space cowboy" instead of the joker.

  • my fav steve miller song

  • Wow--haven't heard this in decades. Fist time I heard this was about 40 miles north of Saigon, at a fire support base, over the Big Red One base camp radio station.

One of the first albums I bought when I got back in "the world". Still sounds great 40 years later.

  • thank you

  • thank you so much! so many people kept mis-labeling it.

  • wow!! wish someone had some old grainy vid from about the time I saw him circa 1970 when he was touring for this in his "power trio".....great !!!

  • Now THIS Takes Me back to The Dimond Days! Real American Rock N Roll..Cheers to S.M.B!

  • This song cries out for a homemade video---with Flash Gordon,Buck Rogers,Jim Kirk,Buzz Lightyear---take your pick!

  • Yep; you did well Dominator.

  • Great song! I had the 1969 "Brave New World" album on vinyl when it was new... I think I wore the grooves out on it.

  • Thank you so much, i have been looking for this song for years but the world if filled with morons who label The Joker as Space Cowboy.

    Thanks

  • Just love the electronic "goodies".

    Traveling music, ca 1970.

  • FINALLY! Thanks man!!!

  • Just another awesome solo from Steve.

  • I still have my original vinyl LP in mint condition despite numerous notorious events and good highs. Always loved it best and the effects both sound and mood!

    OUTSTANDING and God Bless! TONYPONY

    Can't wait for 'Hey Yeah'

  • FINALLY! The *REAL* song! So SICK of people calling "The Joker" this song! Damn! lol

  • I LOVE YOU FOR THIS. I wa about to give up with all the idiots labeling The Joker as this one. You just made my day.

  • @heywowitsfelipe I know how it feels man. Somebody had to do it eventually.

  • @Dominator8146 : "I'm sure you know where it's at! "

Thanks sooo much for taking the time to post this.+ 1 bazillion

  • @Dominator8146 Yes, good man Dominator. heywowitsfelipe speaks for everyone here. Many thanks.

  • @Dominator8146 AMEN BROTHA!! "Some people call me the space cowboy..." JUST BECAUSE OF THAT FUCKING LYRIC....IT'S AUTOMATICALLY "Space Cowboy" LAAAAME!!

  • @heywowitsfelipe yes yes and yes.

  • @heywowitsfelipe Thank you STEVIE "GUITAR" MILLER!!! Your backbeat, uptempo blues riff with TOTALLY great original lyrics will live FOREVER! Awesome! (As it was when it first nailed me in 1968!)

  • There was another video exactly like this one of this song and it was removed, I think. If it was you, thank you for posting it again.

  • @Wufnu Nope, it wasn't me. You're welcome.

  • Thank you for posting this, I've been looking all over for this and all I ever find are retards who have labled "The Joker" as "Space Cowboy. So again thank you.

  • @spintechstang I know exactly how it feels! Steve even knows how it feels. I heard him say it at a concert once. I couldn't believe it wasn't on here either.
