Rather silly to put artificial labels on people. You have Yo-Yo Ma (arguably) the best cellist in the world and all of a sudden all the good cello players have to come from Asia. Don't think there is such a thing as the "Asian" way of playing. Do they play any different?
It depends on who you talk to, but we Asians are stereotyped, like all other people. We don't play differently than any one else, no. Most just say it's the parenting since the typical asian parent wants their kid to be good at academics and music. If the kid's not like that, the typical Asian parent will take it way to seriously and think that the kid's a disgrace to the family, that they've harmed the family's pride.
I may be an adopted by white Asian, but I'm still Asian.
Thanks for your reply. I don't disclose my identity partly for privacy but mainly because I don't believe in stereotypes. You see my postings but you can't tell if I'm related to I. Perlman (Jewish), L. Lang (Asian) or Joshua Bell (Caucasian). You can tell I'm not Afro like Wynton Marsalis.
I have Asian friends. Many learned to play instruments though not professional musicians. Parents have expectations because they wanted their money's worth but I wouldn't say "push"...
In the movie: "Karate Kid" with Jackie C. & Jaden Smith, you get the stereotype the main character young lady learned to play violin because of her parents. And even her violin teacher (Caucasian) said: "Your parents wanted you to do this". Like if she wasn't accepted into the Beijing Academy of music she would disgrace her family. During her audition only 1 person clapped: Dre Parker (J. Smith). Asian parents only care for achievements (compare their kids to other parents') ?
in my high school orchestra me and other selected cello students will play this for our school performance...i should feel nervous but i cant wait to play such beautiful song. specially as im going to play it on a magnificent instrument...the cello :')
@Citroion68 i used to play the violin, but i later moved to cello just because i a friend of mine wanted me to try it out with him. honestly, i dont regret it at all.
violin, didnt interest me much. thats why i didnt understand the true meaning of classical music. by moving to cello, i got to discover a whole new entire world. my "character" also changed, from bratty to more of a philosophical mind, thanks to my teacher (who is a philosopher too :D) STAY with the cello, its beautiful :)
@YTLyricsMaker Awesome story, I'm a viola player, I am in the stings at school and I learned how to hold a bow and an instrument there, otherwise, I've been pretty much solo in the process of learning viola (self taught). I have always loved the cello so much and wished I'd played it, but I do pick them up once and a while and play something transposed from my viola (usually originally cello music) and just enjoy the feeling and sound. I've always been a classical lover, always will be!
@JBMSaphira67 very inspiring, i must say. in elementary i remember being a kid who didnt care about anything...but after i was introduced to the cello, and to my cello professor, (all credit goes to him) i managed to change a lot. classical music has changed my life, and now, every chance i get i try to listen to some classical music. it helps clearing your mind and to relax you more than a popular music would be able to.
thx CWcello for watching my video in the first place :) and also thank you for sending this video to me :) u r an excellent cellist and u show true talent. i hope u continue to play and enjoy your music and i hope u always take it seriously and make people happy with your music. :)
A cellist named Kate Sawbridge played this piece at about the 6min mark in the 1st part of a 2003 pbs documentary called The Elegant Universe. It ties in with this video because she did it with 3 copies of herself. "History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme."
As a cellist, I heard some sixteenth (or thirty-second notes, depending on the version) that were a little messy and some minor tuning issues, but over all amazing
Now if only I could get my Cello Quartet to play this song this well (but we've only met like one time so meh)
You are amazing four-times over, ykwim. If you ever need a 2nd cellist, call my daughter - she's only 11 but talented and gorgeous. You'll be her inspiration when I show her this video. She won't think all male cellist look like Maisky and YoYo Ma, lol.
The Cello is the most beautiful instrument in the Universe, and you have Mastered the incredible possibilities of the Cello....this is also my FAVORITE piece of all time, and now.. I'm going to have to search out all of your other videos- Please, ENCORE!!!
Perfect! I have been playing the cello for two weeks and I just can't wait til I will be able to play this! Your just so wonderful! Not out of tune at all! ( My favorite string is "C"
I'M IN LUUUVVVEEE :) I am going to play this at my wedding...
Very nice! I am a cellist myself, and i would love to play this piece too, so i was wondering if there is any place i can find the sheet music for cellos only?
