@MaharlikaAWA You should extend your arms fully but without locking your joints out. Over extending your punches can cause damage to your wrists, elbows and shoulders.
@UFN100 Thanks man that is what I thought. I also notice a lot of boxers dont extend their arms far at all, this seems to be because they are doing uppercuts and hooks and they are tight in close punches. And once in awhile they throw out the fully extended straight punches.
I try to shadow box almost every day, should I be blocking as well? or mainly focus on combos like jab, straight, hook, straight?
@MaharlikaAWA Shadow boxing should be a simulation of what you do against a real opponent. So you need to include footwork, blocks, slips and movement as well as throwing punches and combinations
@UFN100 So the goal is to pretend you are fighting a real person...right? I will keep it up i think im doing okay and this video also helps a lot. Im glad boxers post this stuff up. I do martial arts so I add in kicks and knees and elbows but I focus on hands since im crippled in my knee joints.
@MaharlikaAWA Yes thats more or less the idea. You need to imagine there is a opponent there and throw you combinations as if they are throwing shots back at you. The principle is the same for martial arts as well as boxing.
@UFN100 Thanks for the info man. I notice though, that some of this guys jabs look like hammer fists and are not even close to extending out as he keeps his elbow bent and throws a lot in a row. Why does he do that? Is that some kind of jab what is the goal of it?
@UFN100 What I mean is that around 1:26 he is throwing really short short jabs without even a straight arm. Are those simply fakes or like checks or blocks?
@MaharlikaAWA Yes he is throwing faints, blocks and checks at this point. Some of the shorter punches early on simulate what you throw when you to get your distance

Are you supposed to fully extend your arms when shadow boxing or just keep them bent slightly? I keep hearing different opinions about this.
