@madmax1854 You should look into the M1a Scout, it is an 18", you loose a lot going from 18 to 16 but not a lot from 20 to 18. The iron sights on the Socom blow as well.

@Le0nidas1775 Actually, the .308 is pretty insensitive to shorter barrel lengths, 16" .308s dont really lose a whole lot. Ruger tested this before they started producing the Ruger Scout (which I own now), they said instead of the traditional 100fps/inch loss its more like 50fps/inch. And yes, the irons are made for low light room clearing, not precision, but I put the 2x compML2 aimpoint thats in this video on it, and it kicks ass. I dropped a deer at 160 yards with one shot with it.

Anyways, I am very impressed with both your skill and sportsmanship and I hope you will fish with me if you ever make it to the Houston area. A lot of people don't get it. Yes, he could have shot the hog from his vehicle, and he wouldn't have had to hold over his target. Maybe at 400 yards, but still not 12 inches. He enjoyed the challenge of getting as close as possible before shooting.  Thats what real hunters do. Good video.

If you're interested in getting a rifle for big game, I would recommend a high quality bolt action like a Remington 700 BDL or Winchester Model 70 in 30-06 or 270. Most sporting goods stores like Academy or Wal Mart will carry several different types. Good luck, happy hunting.

If you shoot at the mid-shoulder on a quartering towards shot, the bullet goes too far back and ends up in the abdomen, missing the vitals, especially in pigs since their vitals are farther forward than deer.
