  • Great design, but it got loud and really rough. Someone needs to design a bigger, smoother version.

  • I absoutly loved this ride

  • I loved Flashback. I understand it wasn't as smooth as some of the other rides, but considering it's age and such- It was fine. Personally, I never had a problem with it. I was so sad when I heard they were tearing it down. It seems like they're starting to shut down all their classics if they can't upgrade them. Don't get me wrong, the new rides are great and all, but still. I remember being a kid and skipping on these rides while my older siblings chickened out. lol

  • I Personally find it a bit unfortunate that I couldn't Ride it myself, seeing as it was the only roller coaster of it's kind EVER. It seems like a real Zero-G experience - Kinda reminds me of Roller coaster tycoon 2. I guess it's gonna be replaced by X Flight in 2012 :D

  • great song horrible ride

  • They should make a Flashback 2.0, one that's similar, but not as rough... I guess.

  • i actually liked this ride. didnt hit my head really. although i was young when i rode it

  • Intamin thankfully put this to rest and gave us a new, but similar zig zag coaster, Green Lantern: First Flight....awesome ride, check out the POV's!!

  • @mamitsumamits It's nothing Like Green Lantern.

  • @Samualsim

Yeh, I'm referring to the zig zag layout. But the experience and trains are totally different.

  • I wish they would rebuild this rollercoaster sometime. It's a must-ride. More comfortable restraints for the people that's not smart enough to strain their necks maybe would be good, too.

  • Just to add a point to the mix, this ride was originally called Z-Force. Yet in 1987 Magic Mountain had a huge "dragon swing" type of pendilum/counterweight ride called "Z-Force". Similar to a dragon swing, it had the ability to basically balance itsself upside down and follow through with a complete revolution. Don't hear much about that ride or the Serejevo Bobsleds. I think these and Shockwave were part of the ride rotation program of the 80's and early 90's.

  • Why did they demolish the only Space Diver coaster ever made?!?! It was a great coaster!

  • Dang! I missed it by a year cuz my first time there was in 2008

  • @zombiexelmo It actually last opperated in 2003, so even if you were there in 2007, you wouldn't have been able to ride it.

  • @AceAviations2

So the ride closed in 2003?....Why? Was it replaced?

  • @videodude23 From what I remember reading about, it was a REALLY rough ride, and your head would be bashed on the sides of the shoulder harness.

  • I would have hatted to sit in the back on this ride. Being pulled around like that must of hurt a lot. >.<

  • haha! one of the best memories of my 8th grade magic mountain class trip is my yelling in pain all the way down this piece of shit, then getting right back on (no one else was foolish enough to ride it that day) just to confirm how truly awful it was.

  • such an interesting track concept though

  • Toool!!!....oh wait...Chevelle ;P

  • I miss this ride

  • This rollercoaster may not look very rough, but it was pretty awful. I experienced it in 1988 at Six Flags over Georgia. There, it was called 'Z-Force'. I sat in the back and all I could see was the cart in front of me. The field of vision was very low. We used to call the drops, 'corkscrews'. During these corkscrews, my head would bounce around like a pinball. However, it was an aesthetically beautiful machine. It was so incredibly compact. It looked like an abstract metal sculpture.

  • y did they take this ride down

  • @TGChinappi It was dormant for four years, and on top of that, it was EXTREMELY painful.

  • sucks that isnt there anymore. looks very interesting but many people says it hurts alot so im kinda iffy to ride it if it was still here today :|.....

  • never got to ride this coaster.......... always wanted to but after these comments looks like that urge is going away!!

  • One of the most weirdest coasters I've ever ridden.

  • I ran into a sign once in magic mountain cause I'm a dumbass, and at least three people came in for neck injuries from this stupid ride while I was sitting in the MM infirmary.

  • I went on it when it first opened at Great America in Chicago in 1985. I wasn't impressed with it. I thought the ride was boring. I waited in line for along time to find out that ride sucked.

  • Still miss this ride. It was my favorite whenever i would go to Six Flags. Yes it would rock your head. But I didnt mind it for the thrill of the ride. I nicknamed it Lil Blue because of the compact area it took and the color of course. RIP yes. But still hope maybe one day it will come back.

  • @lex1ne trust me when i say this, Six Flags will not be bringing this back. they got too many complaints during its run there. the reason i know this is, i was at MM not too long ago and i spoke to someojne who had been at the park for a 10 years, and they said that that was one of the reasons they took it down. the other was cuz it was so old..

  • @Boytoy26 I know that already. Theres enough negative comments about this ride that I thought was hella cool. No need to add anymore. Hope is not a bad thing. Take care.

  • i wish to opened at sixflags magic mountain is my dream

  • If it wasn't rough as hell, it would have been a pretty fun ride...too bad it gave me a migraine lasting for a week!

  • this shoulda been named "WHIPLASH" instead of FLASHBACK

  • Lol the song goes with the ride :)

  • poor flashback :(

  • massive headaches

  • that was the best roller coaster I ever went on.

  • I remember this coaster from when I was little! I would always see it from hurricane harbor and wondered if it was fun or not, but never got to ride it. I noticed a few years ago it got taken down, but due to everyone's comments, I don't think I missed out on much. Ah well.

  • Why did they take it down?

  • i miss that ride

i rode it when i was a small child on 2003 the ride was fixed up at that time and then was torn down

  • I've never been on this ride. This ride was closed when I first started going to Magic Mountain. Was this a good ride? I GOTTA KNOW

  • i couldnt breath on this. it suffocated me and i had a big headache after D;

  • i remember as we approached Flashback there was a guy being removed on a stretcher (with neck brace) by some EMTs...

i remember saying to my friend "alright! the line will be shorter!!!"

    Magic Mtn CA

  • wow ryan wow.

do you know why they got rid of it?

  • @TheSickening4111

Because it hurt like a bitch!

  • i have never seen this ride. it looks interesting how it is all built around itself looks like it would have been a fun one to ride!

  • I loved this ride -_-......

  • I never thought I'd ever see a video of this ride operating... Thank you for posting this. :)

  • Lots of folks glorify this ride since it's gone and rarely operated in it's final years. I was able to ride in 2001 and it was a very painful experience. More so than Giant or anything like that. I remember hreading an actual crack in my neck on one of the dives. It would have been a fun ride without the horse collar restraints but it was sheer brutality.

  • This brings back memories. I used to play games like RCT when I was young. I always dreamed about riding Flash Back. I just visited last year. It had just been torn down. I never got to ride it...

  • @tsunami762 Same here! The second I saw it on RCT2 I wanted to ride it! But now it's gone forever. RIP Flashback 1987-2009

  • I liked this coaster, got to ride it when it was as SFOG back in '89 a little rough but it was fun

  • i neva got 2 ride this i only went 2 magic mountain like 2 months ago

but i got 2 ride Scream

  • What kind of noises did it make? Like the chain was loud, or was it something else?

  • i remember this ride, to bad i never got a chance to ride it...

  • I rode this when it first opened as Z-Force in ATL ga. The dips and dives into nothingness was cool and it was visually stunning to watch from the ground. I remember being so rattled after it ended that It took me a while to regain my balance. Cool ride, wish they had kept it!

  • Sadly I never got to ride it

  • it was a cool ride...banged ure head alot but it was cool

  • Six Flags bought this ride from Germany I think back in the 80's. It was known as Z-Force at Six Flags over GA and it only operated for 2 years until it moved to magic mountain and they closed it down a few years ago. Think of it like an old car sometimes it just cheaper to get a new one

  • I remember this ride...I had fond and terrible memories of it >.>; the concept of the ride was awesome but with the technology back then it was REALLY rough. It would be cool if they remade this with today's technology. It would be sooo smooth. Sad to know its gone but good riddance...

  • I rode it when it opened at Marriot's Great America.. it was rough THEN.. I can't imagine how rough it was at the end.. it looked like they really let the thing go. looked like the original 22yr old paint on it !

  • It felt like someone taking a sledge hammer to your head.

Its by far the worst coaster I have ever been on.

  • Guess you've never rode the Texas Giant at Six Flags over Texas near Dallas. Its so rough you'd think the wheels where square! The most shockingly painful experience ever and I ride it every time I go.

  • the rattler at six flags fiesta texas is way worse. they actually had to shorten the drop as it was too painful. literally my stepmom broke her neck on it.

  • @hip2dadip yeahhhh,,, its being refurbed at the moment ^_^ it was a great ride. at first i wasnt happy about the refurb but with what i have heard im stoked. =D

  • @hip2dadip Yea right rough is ratller at fiesta texas you dont know rough until u rode that it rattles you it was so bad they had to shrink it it killed some people and put some in comas but it is awsome!

  • @hip2dadip > The Giant was not that bad. A great woodie is supposed to toss you around. Looks like the re-profile is going well though, I will miss the original very much!

  • @rfgstl I had REAL bruises from that thing EVERY time I rode it. I'm BLACK and I don't know if you know it or not but, we don'r bruise very easily!!! It REALLY WAS that bad. Probably why they spent millions on the re-design. Can't wait til the spring to ride the new version!!!

  • @hip2dadip > LOL! The Giant never was that mean to me...sometimes walked away with that "what the hell just happened?"feeling, but there I was getting right back in line to ride it again. Glutton for punishment I guess, i thought it was a great ride everytime :)

  • @Ryan120420 I wonder if IntaminAG was to redesign the train(especially the restraints) would it make a much more comfortable ride.

  • who sings this song???

  • Chevelle.

  • i miss this ride. it was one of my favorites.i only got to ride it twice back in 1997. guess the injuries were the reason of its demise. they should re-invent it and bring it back out.

  • Wow, I've been wondering what happened to this ride. It was my first ever roller coaster. I remember the day they opened it in 1985 at Six Flags Great America just outside of Chicago. Kinda sad to hear it's non-existent now, I would have loved to ride it again for old time sake. =(

  • I never liked that ride. everytime I went on the ride (at Magic Mountain) I would always get injured! i'm assuming they took it down because of many injury complaints...

  • I got to ride it last day of operation. Hurt...like...FUCK! I had a horrid headache afterwards.

  • ive never been on it it was right next to hurricane harbor i thought it was a water rride

  • was this removed

  • I'm sorry z-force?

  • Was this G-Force? i hated that ride....

  • There is a reason why it's called flashback, it's going to jerk you around alot, to bad some or most people can't handle this ride. Loved this ride, wish they never took it down, I think all because they had to build hurricane harbor next to it and I think it had to do with the water splashes or stupid people didn't want to hear the noise of the ride or just something else.

  • This was the worst and most painful ride ever no lie. I have a neck pain to his day because of this stupid ride. Glad them tore this crap down.

  • @kalipassion04 Yeah , I've heard the stories of that, it actually appears in RCT2, which is where I first heard of it.

  • Yup, sorry, This ride was made in 1985 placed iand opened in 1986 then removed in 1987 located to SFoG was rebuilt ran from the end of 1988-1989 then removed moved to SFMM was built operated from 1992-2002 closed reopened in 2003 closed finally in 2003 at the end of the season placed in storage for 1 year then melted down to 20 blocks of solid steel waiting to be remelted and crafted into a new coaster. That should be 100% correct dates and facts. =) Enjoy

  • Well. This Coaster was originaly in SF over GA not Great America =) It stood where Superman now is which they both could have stayed there ( when they made superman) but there was ALOT of rock that need to be blasted away to build superman which would have cause to much strain and stress on the ride =)

  • Nope, it was first operated at Six Flags Great America from 1985-1987. Then it was moved to Six Flags Over Georgia and operated from 1988- 1990. Then it was moved to Six Flags Magic Mountain and operated from 1992 -2003. And was torn down in 2007.

  • @Ryan120420 why did they take it out? Just cause it was old or what?

  • @deathbyillusion The rails were rusted out, track was beginning to rust out as well, and overall too loud to operate in its current place (life guards in HH couldn't hear well.) It was too much to repair it, so it unfortunately got scrapped, the worlds first and only space diver, utilizing the worlds first heartline :(

  • @greatplanesman oh that sucks

  • @WoWmasterdoom The ride was originally in Six Flags Great America in Chicago. When it first opened in 1985, I remember waiting in line just to find out the ride sucked.

  • @WoWmasterdoom

it was torn out thirteen year before superman was built, and it was replaced by the ninja which still exists. and it was at great america before that

  • @WoWmasterdoom It stood where Ninja is, anyway.

  • i thought this said "flash back last year of operation ivy"

  • I Heard It Hurt yu.? Bu Soo Does Viper And Colluses And Tose Are Up i wish i coul gO On This Ride Im A Rollercoaster fanatic and i wish i could go on this:]

  • I heard this ride was awful because it REALLY hurt your head

  • And sprain your neck too. It was not an enjoyable ride!

  • R I P i loved this ride. one of my favorits.

  • R.I.P. Flashback. :'[

I vote for rebuilding this coaster as a hydraulic launch coaster!! Haha just kidding, magic mountain could use one tho..

  • I remeber this ride. It was a lot of fun, except for the headbanging. Still it was very thrilling. R.I.P Flashback.

  • i went on this so long ago.

it was fun but it shaked sooo much. =[

  • Y does it have a B & M Track. Usually inamin has a triangular shaped but ok.

  • That is a Bolliger & Mabillard made rollercoaster.

  • No its not.

It is an Intamin AG ride.

  • @Ryan120420 B&M was apart of Intamin at the time the ride was made, so it 'technically' is a B&M ride.

  • @IntaminFanboy B&M's first coaster, Iron Wolf, didn't open until 1990. This is, in fact, an Intamin coaster.

  • @xtremespeed128 I know. That's why I said 'technically' not 'actually'.

  • @Ryan120420 Very good Ryan not many people know that, also this was the first coaster to have 4 row seating.

  • @Ryan120420 > Actually, Flashback was designed by B&M. Bolliger&Mabillard got their start thru Intamin's close partnership with Giovanola, a subcontractor to Intamin/B&M who manufactured the steel for their coasters until around 2004.

  • @Ryan120420 A Spacediver to be specific....

  • They did work for Intamin, before they formed there own company. Flashback was built when they worked for intamin/

  • ohh that explains it thx

  • i think theres a ride similar now at sfmm

  • Nope.

  • the track looks like a B&M coaster...oh and in the description you put

    RIP

    ZForce/FlashBack

    1885-2007

notice anything wrong with that? lol...i dont think it was a ride for 122 years XD

  • Thanks.

  • I rod e this doaster when it first opened at six flags. 3hr waits. It sucked for the wait, but damn Im shocked that they let it go. just like they let psyclone go. six flags is run by a bunch of faggots

  • It is so sad that they had to tear it down. I think that they should have moved it to another part of the park. I found out that why it was tooken down. Well it was removed because the loud noise of the braking system had interfeared with the duties of the lifeguards at hurricane harbor. I had hope that they would salvage it. Does anyone know why Psyclone was demolished?

  • The breaking system was not the problem, the ride was just loud. Like Riddlers Revenge loud.

Psyclone was removed due to low ridership, and the ride sucked.

  • and psyclone needed atleast 17 riders to start or else the train wouldnt pass the ride

  • i'm sorry, but this coaster was horrible in my opinoin. it compared to psyclone in roughness, i remember riding both of those rough ass coasters back in the day... this one was unique but just had to go and be put out of it's memory. thanks for the vid, brought back great memories of six flags waaay back when

  • Yeah, the Z-Force

  • I remember this ride being at Six Flags Great America when i was a kid. Its been like 20 years since I rode it. It was rough when i was a kid.

  • Despite all the new fandangled rides nowadays. Flashback is still my all time favorite ride at Magic Mountain. I miss the "lil blue" coaster as I called it. Thank you for the post, brought back great memories.

  • I will always remember this as Z-Force.

  • ahh i wanted to go on this, but it was to late.

  • that was a great coaster, why did they stop operating it?

  • i think that it was making so much noise that the lifeguards couldn't hear at Hurricane Harbor, so it stopped operating. i think they should have just relocated it to another area of the park, or to a different park.

  • it stopped because it hardly had any riders and they only ran it before May and after September.(when Hurrican Harbor was closed)

  • Flashback would close for the summer due to Hurricane Harbor and also because the park needed the employees required to run this ride at other positions for the summer.

It was originally designed by B&M, built by Giovanola, and sold by Intamin.

It's last year was in 2003. The last day it operated was one day in May of 2003 (I can't remember the exact date). There were no public riders, but it was powered on and cycled but never opened.

It was removed in 2007, and will never be rebuilt.

  • B&M had nothing to do with this ride. The company B&M was created in 1988 and this ride opened in 1985.

It was designed by Intamin, and manufactured by Giovanola.

  • B&M worked for Intamin before they went out on their own. It was designed by Walter and Claude, hence it was designed by B&M.

  • It's weird because when I went to Magic Mountain for the first time in 2002, this ride was closed...

  • wait this was removed in 03?

  • No it closed in 03 and was torn down in 07.

  • I miss this ride. Marathoned it 5 times in a row in 2002.

  • Is this a 1st gen B&M?

  • No it is an Intamin coaster.

  • Ohh yeah. The track looks pretty B&M though. Must be a early Intiman. Check out the trains lol.

  • It was my dream to ride this coaster :(

Seems like I'll never get that chance.

  • me too :((

  • Damn, me too. good news. I did some research... they might rebuild it this year or next!

  • Its not getting rebuilt

    /watch?v=XLgLbyRwdYE

    /watch?v=av8zWgmO_Jc

New for Next year is Terminator: the coaster.

    /watch?v=Fu1o_4tgwrU

  • i forgot to include that i was at magic mountain..lol =)

  • =( I have only been here 2 times. The first time i was like 3 or 4 years old so I couldnt go on anything big like that. The next time I went was this year but they didnt have it there anymore! Darn i didnt get to see what it was like :( Ps. Someone tell me if there is a youtube video about i closing down.

  • /watch?v=XLgLbyRwdYE

    /watch?v=av8zWgmO_Jc

These two videos show Flashback being torn down.

  • I'm pretty sure someone died on this ride when it was in Georgia.

  • You literally had to have a strong upper neck area for this ride. I got on it when it was Z-force here in Chicago and though it was fun to ride for me, my friedns had headaches and neck aches because it banged your head side to side. It was truly rough to ride.

  • Why did they shut and tear this ride down? They tore it down before I got a chance to go on it. So I never have been on this. I've only seen it when it was shut down

  • this ride was an absolutely EVIL sum'bitch. It should have been "whiplash".. I rode this thing back in `85 as Z-Force at Marriott's Great America and it looked harmless, but it was wicked. LOTS of side to side thrashing, but it was a realy fun ride, no other coaster was quite like it. Now it got recycled like another killer ShockWave that was at Great America

  • im glad you made this video. i have been looking for this coaster it used to be called ZForce and it was at six flags over georgia. i stood in line for over 4 hours when it first opened. fun ride but not worth the wait.

  • I remember riding this back in `85 at MGA, this thing beat the ever loving shit out of you even when it was brand new. Fun, but violent !

  • This was a rough ride, i hope they build a newer smoother one.

  • The one and only ride I never got to ride at Magic.....i did get to ride psyclone a bunch of times though yay..RIP psyclone

  • this sucks they tore it down and i never went on it and i was tall enough to go on it but any ways i liked going to hurricane arbor and see the screams and laughs of people riding one day i saw it and someone lost there hat

  • they got rid of the chiller but they didnt use it as scrap metal they sold it to a european park

  • was it smooth back then or was it always rough?

  • Put it in a dark show building with some star effects...

    Bam!

    Space Mountain Killer...

  • lol yeah they should have named it Whiplash all I remmeber was pain from it....too bad they got rid of it :(

  • they stored this coaster it says that they might bring it back and make it better >>said on the internet

  • They tore this ride down for scrap metal. Its not coming back...ever!

    Watch:

    /watch?v=XLgLbyRwdYE

It was not taken down with the intent to rebuild it.

  • my friend told me he got bad whiplash on this ride. and it looks fun but PAINFUL...

  • I've NEVER ridden on this ride before. When I 1st went to SFMM, they had already closed this ride. And is this ride fun?

  • No, it was the worst coaster I have ever ridden.

  • I've been going to Great America since it opened, and especially remember the rides of the 80's. This wasn't my favorite steel coaster by any means (seemed to really bang us around) but it had a cool design & name. And true to the caption, it was closed during my visit to Walley World in 2002.

  • rollercoaster tycoon 2 says that flashback has 6 inversions.

  • Thats a game. Flashback has no inversions, just hairpin turns.

  • thats as close as you can get it on rct2

  • RIP Flashback. They did tear it down I saw them rip it apart with a scissor claws on a tractor.
