  • non ci sono parole si può solo rimanere in silenzio ed ascoltarlo...

  • Sonny Boy Williamson...The Blues Harp Master!

    OooohHHhh YeeAaaAAhHH!!!!

Thanks so much for uploading this one.

Do you know what year this was filmed?

  • @doda26 February 1964 at Brussels. There's more footage of his visit to Belgium on youtube: "Memphis Slim quartet with Sonny Boy Williamson"

  • sonny boy must have had some good skunk back in the days he looks ripped

  • it took me far too long to realise it was just realise it was just him and a harmonica... this man is a talent beyond the comprehension of mere mortals... AND HIS HANDS!

  • There is no better then nor now. He continues to inspire musicians of all stripes. To the person inquiring as to the key: he is playing a low D. I've also seen videos where he plays this tune on a low E harp.

  • wymiata facet

  • What key is that harmonica?

  • he looks like he never slept..

  • @greenowl2 a little bit, its the bags under his eyes. or poor lighting....i dont know, im no specialist.

    Best wishes from the U.K.

  • A polaków tu spotkam ? ? ;)

  • @kojus566 Nie ma miejsca na youtubie chyba gdzie nie było jeszcze polaków :)

  • Amazing talent.

  • супер

  • One of the most amazing things I've seen on YouTube

  • 8 people are deaf. it's awesome !

  • @MamRapuNaKilogramy I think 8 old american people are racist.

  • what the hell idiot dislikes this video...?

  • to the 'dis-likers: deaf dumb and blind for sure. This video is not just a classic example of raw pure talent, it is an example of what we all (musicians) should strive for ...... to 'be' the music. Few will ever come near this gentleman, all the off-topic comments about color, slaves, etc. aside.

  • superb

  • That's way I guess no white people can't play Blues. I'm white and try to do that...It's a dead end job...

  • @FranZSax its not a matter of color its about the pain if you havent suffered and felt pain you cant have the blues...

  • @Tzefri84 I'm totally agree with you, and you know: black people have suffered so much more pain than anyone!

  • @FranZSax yeah especially back then in america they were still treated like slaves.some say black people have the rythm more than white.but think this, when you are poor and dont have moeny what can you freely enjoy?music singing dancing so you become good at it.you sing your pain you express your feelings you feel it.

  • When one rocks, rocks.

  • I now want a harmonica...

  • what an amazing piece....thanks to the uploader....

  • would anyone happen to know what key is this harp on?

  • @TrueAriesRocks Low C.. i guess??!!

  • ...amazing!!

  • Zeppelin used this piece on the song bring it on home.

  • It would take a black man like sonny boy to play this great. I just don't think any other race of person would have the "soul" to do it this way.

  • @smartuur yeah welll mm just fuck you

  • Mmm...

    YOU ARE A LEGEND.

  • OMFG ... look mum no hands!!!

  • Cartman plays the hawrmonica waaaaaaay better.

  • @Smartuur you're insane... this guy is the greates of all time, makes james harper look like a hack.. hes the best.. period.

  • @catoplayboy Eric Cartman in South Park... Search "Eric Cartman Harmonica" on youtube, you'll get it.

  • @catoplayboy MY BAAAAD. hahahhaha. I didn't put it together, nit a big south park watcher even tho I like it. I just saw the last name haha sorry man

  • genio

  • it's all about the blues....

  • how did he keep playing when he stuck it in his mouth like a cigar? how'd he keep playing individual notes like that????

  • @TruthSurge tongue blocking

  • @brydon10 I guess that makes sense. It just looked like he'd not be able to control it w/o reaching more holes. ? obviously i don't play harmonica. heheh

  • bye bye legend

  • thanks. Lots.

  • I think I just wet myself. Sonny Boy could make that thing go.

  • I*m gone.

  • He's playing a Hohnner Marine Band 365 in C key. It is a diatonic harmonic with 12 holes. I have one :)

  • and if someone have a diatonic in G in wich key play

  • WICH KIND OF HARMONICA HIS PLAING... IN WICH TUNING ?

  • @spartako5 its a diatonic in the key of D ... which means he is playing in the Key of A

  • Sonny... La classe!

  • abstract masterpiece

    bye bye Amy...

  • 8 people have no culture.

  • Cara eu simplesmente nasci na época errada . É extraordinário sem as mãos !!

  • how do they do that with the harmonica just in the mouth. still having a hard time getting single notes with 2 hands. did u ever wonder who taught the Lilttle Walter's Sonny Terry 's Big Walter Horton ect: how can u learn all that stuff by yourself ( self tought )

  • @HarPlayer -it's so true....the blues man..i mean..ay real one...really can do it...me too..and..because...i'm addicted to blues....please....just listen me in a cover..i hope ...comming soon....with my voice...i am white man..but....i lived between them...and...i feel those sounds..and learned a lot from them....god bless this good music ! - anyway...i've learned to play harmonica and guitar...from 5....not bad....'ight ?

  • The difference between a chromatic and a diatonic is the button or slide, that makes available the half steps between each note making all 12 (or eleven depending on how you count) tones of the western scales available. A diatonic is tuned to provide the diatonic scale (7 or 8 tones depending on how you count). A skilled played can derive some, if not all (depending on whether or not one can overblow and overdraw) of the missing notes on a diatonic harp. There are 12 and 14 hole diatonics.

  • @WTJoyce45 -hey man..it's also depending of the type of the harmonica..., the lenght of the fingers...the musical ear, also talent..and...not in last place....the...FEELING for blues....

  • @WTJoyce45 I think you mean 12 or 13 dependinghow you count. 8 in an octave include the same one twice but 12 semitones doesn't

  • Serious performer.

  • A diatonic harp only has 10 holes.

  • Comment removed

  • Hes on of the few people in this world I've ever seen suck and blow at the same time.

  • @dragontooth81 -wonderful remark...only a good musician on harp know the difference...it is about inspire and expire exercise...and..it is really hard to master...professional...but...it is possible , evan by you...it's so easy...

  • @dragontooth81 yeah , it's sonny boy in the puterobrasileiro

  • This guy inspired me to take up the harp when I was 17 and I was lucky enough to meet him after a gig at The Colston Hall in Bristol in the 60s

  • @sonnyboywalter

    Lucky man!

  • @sonnyboywalter The best I've heard him play this piece. He seems 'straighter' and doesn't make a mess of improvising the tune. This was the first version I heard. I was instantly transfixed. It's just one of those unexplainable songs: 'feel' to the fullest. The real deal. This video is priceless and the boom camera makes it seem like the viewer is a bird settling on a branch to check out the new kid in town. I met Dizzy Gillespie similarly in '83. Equal awe. I was 9 months old when Sonny died.

  • @sonnyboywalter dam.. dude bet ya that was pretty inspiring

  • @dylster21502 Sure was, and still have signed photo on my wall, although autograph now fading!

  • 2:41 of greatness by a legend!

  • 1,306 likes and 8 dislikes. Now, I really don't understand the dislikes but WOW that's a rating you don't see very often on here!

  • Love how walks off,

  • Great video, thanks for uploading.

  • i'd of loved to have a conversation with this guy he would probably have some real good stories.

  • i bet this guy pull's massive pussy!

  • @MrBluewatson Bet this guy eats massive pussy

  • de lo mejor...excelente, muy muy bueno...seco para la armónica, ojalá llegue a tocar algún día parecido a él.

  • Nice

    he go away in silence....

  • What does it say on his harp, Echo Warpeh?

  • @MrAxSAP Hohner Echo Vamper. It's the European version of the Marine band 12 or 14 hole, I don't remember which and don't feel like looking it up.

  • waw!

  • Magic Dick modified (stole?) these licks and turned it into "Whammer Jammer".

  • mis brothers un master

  • I'll be damned if that wasn't the ballsiest thing ever.

  • wtf?

  • Awesome, what a man can do only with his Voice and an Harmonica , so Great

  • prime example of how less is more

  • I keep coming back to this one again and again. Just a masterful piece of work containing only what is necessary and nothing more. The true mantra of the blues at work. A lot of recent comments on the key of the harmonica. From what I've been able to see it is a HOHNER ECHO VAMPER 12 Hole Diatonic Harmonica in they key of LOW C. By the way, don't try this one if you're not an excellent tongue blocker. If you can't tongue block, try Sonny Terry, he never tongue blocked. Enjoy!

  • This blues let me feel the roots of the blues:the broken african mind in slavery before the blues became an american label.

  • Amazing...!

  • Это...Класс! Наши придурки,конечно стараются,но этого им не достичь - никогда!!!

  • Это , не может не нравиться...дети!

  • After al the stereo, electronic, digital, dolby surround 2d, 3d, 4d,3way, 4way 5way, subwoofer etc etc etc. At the end you will come to the conclusion; It is THIS man showing us lady gaga's way of; oohI'mthegreatestmusicianoftheworldwannabe. what music is all about. All he needed is a harmonica a mic and 2 min. and 41 sec. REAL music these days is hard to find. Name 1 artist/group who are famous at this time, that come close to this. You won't find it.
  • God I love YouTube!!!!! Where else would I accidently find this masterpiece?

  • @Winterstick549 word to the mummy fucker!!!

  • @Winterstick549 Yes even with YouTube's annoying habit of blocking tracks, I could never afford to buy half the stuff I listen to on YouTube. If we could just keep the stupids from downloading, tracks would stay around longer. I think that's when things get stroppy is when too many people download a track. Its silly because you can access YouTube through smart phones now. You don't need to bootleg a track. It ruins it for the rest of us.

  • @Winterstick549 a record shop

  • Really nice sound on the harmonica....Any body know the key its in

  • @skjoedt79 is it a low C?

  • YOW!

  • this is a true blues man , this man is a pure feeling!

  • 7 people don't like music

  • look ma no hands... Amazing!

  • Can anyone tell me if he is playing on chromatic harmonica?

  • @KidFromDaCity he is not, he is playing on a diatonic harmonica

  • @jesse42224 What is the differience between a chromatic and a diatonic harmonica?

  • Amazing song!!! This real harmonica blues!

  • i love his technique of playing the harmonica at 2:07, it a cool one, fun to experiment with to, and i think hes playing the Hohner 14 hole Marine Band, lower octave, 365, not the 364. its pritty much the same instrument, but the 365 has 3 more holes added on before the 1st one on a regular key of c diatonic and 1 after the 10th hole on a regular, as where the 12 hole i thing has 1 added to the beginning and one added at the end, but both they are both good sounding instruments.

  • @jesse42224 You sure about that being a 14 holer? I can make it sound the same way with a Bb 10 holer, I think. But will check it out if you're sure, because...WOW!

  • @SonicLizzz yeah im pretty sure its a 14 hole, for one it looks to big to be a 10 hole, at least to me, and ive done some research and every site has said it a 14 holer, its called a hohner lower octave marine band, i just dont know whether it is in the key of c one or g one. oh btw this is my new account name thing

  • @manandhisharmonica It may be a 10 0r 14 as you said due to its size appearance, but entitled to my opinion, it's a 10 hole as to what I've learned. And yes, I know for a fact this is in the key of C.

  • @soullover123456 he if you could would you perhaps sent me the tabs for it in a message or something

  • @manandhisharmonica If he sends you the tabs, could you please repass them to me too?

  • What a wonderful gift to see and hear Sonny Boy Williamson.

    Thanks for posting the video!!

  • Hohner 12-hole Marine Band (octave low 364)

This harmonica in "C" was used on occasion by Sonny Boy Williamson II on tunes like "Bye Bye Bird" and others. We like it a lot for practicing scales and bending. It's like jogging with ankle weights on, it helps increase your power and endurance. It also makes a great rhythm instrument when jamming with another player using a standard key of "C" harmonica.

  • Amazing...

  • listen carefully u can pick the roots of the tricks modern DJs use....

  • holy <3
