  • This makes me shutter, and my back freezes up. There are no words to describe this composition. I bow before John Williams' greatness.

  • One of the most moving movie theme ...thanks for posting

  • @ahsl I agree there are a handful of scores that move me to tears, one is To kill a Mockinbird, another Schinder's List and the next is Born on the fourth of July, and the Majority of these scores Have been done by John Williams to Me he should of got a OSCAR for this. Cause this score is about the devastion of war and what it does to the human soul

  • This soundtrack makes me cry

  • @FreedomFighterReturn Let's talk about corrupt you moslem POS___ Your filthy way of government in that sandbox you call a country is most corrupt and foul. The Iraq war is going down as a victory so far( i was against it) Afganistan will be seen.., but we will do whatever it takes, including taking your oil maybe. Vietnam was a politcal defeat, never military. But let's see..... one over whelming victory was the first gulf war that helped keep your worthless butt out of Sadamns clutches....

  • superbe film très bien jouer par tom cruise qui montre là tous sont talent d'acteur et bien sur avec une superbe music.

  • Much better than Platoon

  • That 's Carlito's Way's song from. 3:50 to 4:45

  • this movie is anti-war it makes me feel more pro war

  • @AFinleyProductions i think its because there's such a great patriotic atmosphere throughout the whole movie. Now patriotic does not always mean "pro-war", it can mean anything wherever it's directed to but that might be a main reason.

  • love john williams a great piece from him.

  • This movie should be shown to teenagers considering military enlistment.

  • beautiful... just close your eyes with headphone on and listen... so wonderful...

  • Since today is Memorial Day, let us all honor the men and women in uniform.

  • @1f5sda lets not let there be men and women in a uniform did you not watch this movie

  • @0gavin0 I''ve seen bits and pieces of the film and I would like to watch the film.

  • one of the best movies i have ever seen in my life

  • This film made Tom my most favorite actor plus the music is awesome

  • recuerdo el tema principal de esta pelicula desde que era niño.. inspira tristeza y soledad.. que gran pelicula..

  • Amazing movie.. Sad movie.. great performances all around..

  • I can't imagine listening to this and not being utterly moved...I can't listen to it and not wish that I were a part of it...a part of this magic. I wish I were a part of this magic.

  • @TheMountaincur what you want to be war veteran? Alot of those troops from vietnam came back a mess, you sure you want to be like that?

  • @TheMountaincur You need to be happy that you're sitting at your home and not in Vietnam.

  • the most beautiful and meaning films about Vietnam War. patriotism, struggle, enduring the lies, and the unbearable agony of overcoming the inconvenient truth

Vietnam War forever shattered "good government" .. same struggle is happening today except the people are no longer as prosperous and no longer as free as they used to be.

maybe fluoride and putting Prozac into our water, and getting everyone slaving their limited and precious lifespan to pay for a plastic card got the best of us.

  • I love the trumpet solo. It always brings out the meaning of the movie everytime I hear it

  • NO-WAR

    FrankVila THANKS

  • john williams un genio

  • i war mr chairman globo tv mr roberto irineu marinho this men put police every day i dont have help govern american my names mark i went forgot govern american

  • canción bella y llena de sentimiento, un 10 a la pelicula y a su banda sonora por todo lo que inspira

  • Powerful score has underlying beauty to it, but at the same time something tragic to it. This score fit the film extremely well.

  • This music is divine, it still gives me goose bumps when I hear those beautiful violins.

  • Masterful composition. Intensely emotional, sweeping, transcendent.

  • I am a casino dealer in Vegas and Ron Kovic was on my game a few days ago along with his wife. We talked about John Williams and this soundtrack and Ron rolled his eyes and raised his hands and said what an amazing songwriter John Williams is. Though we differ politically, I told Mr. Kovic he is a great American. A true patriot.

  • was on your game you say...Ron Kovic, the war vet and activist youre talking about never had a wife...

  • i love this soundtrack, john williams is the best

  • Will people learn anything from this movie? ;(

  • Some touching tunes!

  • MAGNIFICO SOUNDTRACK

  • a great movie...

  • deep! one of the best anti-war movies...

  • I'm not sure why people are voting you down. They obviously don't get the quote.

  • Its just what he says in the film lol but great film anyway with heart.

  • Cruise got screwed at the Oscars. He was more than deserving for this role.

  • True.

  • i just loved dis movie...my birthday is on 4th of july!!!!

  • DANKE einer der besten soundtracks von John williams

  • I think that this theme should be dedicated to the men and women who fought in the wars that we have fought in.

  • this is my favorite movie

  • That would be Stargate, it was released in 1994 and Born on the 4th of July was released in 1989

  • This sound like the Stargate theme. Haha. Don't know who copied who

  • Hmm, well, there is a similar chord change (in this case A to Dm) with the melody making the transition more suspenseful, but that's as far as it goes.

  • Excellent tune, one of the best movie themes ever made

  • niedoceniony film ;/ NAJLEPSZA ROLA Cruis'a mimo ze go nie lubie ... MUZYKA IDEALNIE DOPASOWANA ... JEDEN Z NAJLEPSZYCH DRAMATOW WOJENNYCH

  • tom's performance in this movie is amazing.

  • this the best performance of tom cruse that i've ever seen in my life...

  • I got to work on this film & it's amazing how when the music is in the cut it gives the action so much depth. On set you get the feeling of what it was to be there, but it's funny how the music gives it human emotion.

  • Ez a legjobb dráma amit valaha látam.Thank's Tom & Oliver from Hungary.

  • This was Tom Cruises best role. Great and tragic movie. I love it

  • another case of how the government, screws the hell out of you!

  • great music for a great and underrated piece of art !!!!!!

  • Man, this is the best music to do my homework to. John williams is the man!

  • I agree; my favorites of his are the end credits of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra, but this is definitely high up there for me.

  • AWESOME MOVIE N GREAT SOUNDTRACK

  • man, i'd love to have that trumpet part!

  • OMG! The music's so touching! I'm really emotional right now! If you'll just excuse me, I have to get some tissues. My nose is dripping of snot like crazy and my eyes are burning with tears. I'll be fine now!

  • Great movie - great theme. What a touching melody. It also reminds me on a other movie theme but I dont know which one. Any idea?

  • Perhaps JFK, another Oliver Stone film Williams did the music for.

  • Star Wars episode II - Joda learnings ;)

  • Magnifique !! Une des plus belles musiques du cinéma contemporain ! 5/5 ! :)

  • Happy Fourth of July!

    God bless America!

  • Happy 4th of July everybody!

  • This is one of the best movies I have even seen, real, touching, and acutely teaches us a lesson that all life are precious and it is a crime to wage a war, to send the nations innocent and young to a senseless, useless and paralyzing war.

  • Great comment! I went with my mom to the theater to see this when it first came out. I was a youngster, and it scared the hell out of me! Certain scenes still stick with me til this day. However, I rate it as one of the greatest films I've had the privilege seeing...at least of my generation...

  • I think that this music is excellent for remembering those who have died in various wars over the years, not just Vietnam, Iraq etc. Anyway, May God bless those who gave their lives fighting for their country.

  • this is my favorite movie, i was born in the

    4th of july to.

  • This movie reminds me of "Johnny Got His Gun;" it makes us think more about the plight of the wounded.

  • i think this is Tom Cruise's best acting. it is a solid movie about vietnam that doesn't glorify war, but shows what it really does to alot of young men during that time . everyone should read ron kovic's book born on the fourth of july. there is more to it, and its an easy read.

  • mu uncle fought in this was was seargent

  • The colosal human tragedy of 9/11 had to be addressed first. Oliver Stone saluted the ordinary people who were affected by the events of that day.

With that done, he is free to address the deeper issues of it without being seen as insensitive.

I certainly want to see his take on those issues.

  • John Williams has an ecclectic range of scores he has done. For instance, he did the score for Home Alone also.

  • John Williams is THE great composer of our time.

  • Another example of how a great musical score can add so much to a film. Think of how much more poignant the scene of Ron Kovic returning home to his family for the first time, following his being wounded and his recovery in the veteran's hospital, was made by John Williams' score.

This is Tom Cruise's best performance and Oliver Stone's best film, in my opinion. How in the world "Driving Miss Daisy" managed to take the Academy Award for Best Picture away from this one is still a mystery.

  • I completely agree, how was a negro driving around an old white cunt the best movie that year.

  • Born on the Fourth of July was not a complete critical success when it came out. I can remember a lot of backlash over it, especially when Stone won Director. I don't agree at all but I also dont think this was Stone's best film. JFK is better

  • 'JFK' was a brilliant bit of film making -- the direction, the production values, the sound, the editing, the cinematography, the musical score (again by John Williams) as well as a host of outstanding performances throughout.

The big problem I have with "JFK" was that it was a complete whitewash of history. Check out Vincent Bugliosi's book "Reclaiming History" in which he excoriates Stone and the film.

"World Trade Center" came and went without much fanfare, but was very good, I thought.

  • The problem with World Trade Center is that Stone was trying to make a feel good, Pearl Harbor type of film instead of an actual film about 9/11. United 93 was much better. I am anxious for Stone's "Bush." I thought he did well with Nixon. Nixon was not too hard on the man, it pointed out his flaws and his strengths.

  • I see your point of view, regarding "World Trade Center", Gilch30, but I'll disagree to the extent that I thought one of the reasons it worked was that it WAS apolitical. Stone wanted to make a document which showed that, despite the horror of 9/11 and the political legacy it spawned, it also taught us a lesson in the simple character and courage of many 'ordinary' people that day that should not be forgotten amidst the politics. In that sense, it was relevant.

  • I, too, thought Stone's "Nixon" was a very underrated effort. It made him out to be a tragic figure -- pointing out the crusging poverty and family tragedies of his youth. Joan Allen was superb as Pat Nixon. David Hyde-Pierce had a nice turn, I thought, as John Dean.

Unfortunately, the film was sunk before it had a chance after Nixon biographer Stephen Ambrose criticized it.

  • this is so beautiful!!

  • a very moving film and score my john williams

  • Brilliant score by John Williams.

BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY is one of the greatest films I've ever seen. Directed By Oliver Stone (who brought use Platoon, Wall Street, JFK, Natural Born Killers, Salvador) this film is one of his best. Tom Cruise's performance is just fantastic, I've never seen him play a role like this before.

  • woah

  • Tom Cruise's performances can be brilliant when he is playing people that have flaws. He was amazing in this, Jerry Maguire and Magnolia. I would not have given him the Oscar for this because Daniel Day-Lewis won and he deserved the Oscar. Cruise should have won for Maguire and Magnolia though

  • war on terror?? WAR IS TERROR!!!!!!!

  • I heard he is doing a biopic of bush. Similar to what he did 4 jfk n nixon.

  • he is indeed, its listed on imdb dot com

  • Thanks for posting this video. I think the trumpet solo at 3:12 is one of the most beautiful I have ever heard.

  • Powerful, deep. A magnificient combination of love, tragedy and heroism. I have been carrying part of it in my head ever since the first time heard it.

  • Do you like men?

  • I don´t know. I LOVE this theme! It doesn´t fit the the film at all. It´s sentimental in its core and that´s what the film´s not, and I don´t know how Oliver Stone got to someone like John Williams (to me, they´re opposite personatlities). But I´m glad it´s been written, recorded and finally used for this/a film.

  • John williams has composed on 3 oliver stone films, 4th july, JFK, and Nixon. All 3 scores IMO were excellent esp JFK, because it really made the conspiracy scenes intense.

  • Beautiful. Simply beautiful.

  • john williams is a genius!!!

  • i wish oliver would make another war movie. one about iraq might be good, more modern.

  • this theme is incredible

  • i was in born on the 4th. of july

  • One of John's most underrated.

  • Agreed. At least someone released an unofficial expanded version of this one; I'm still hoping Universal Music might release an expanded version of "Always." Both of these albums only had at best 30 minutes of John Williams music when they were originally released.

BTW, has anyone seen the official music video for this? I couldn't believe it myself.

  • i love this music

  • I love this music since I watched this film in cinema

    Sorry my bad inglish

  • I love the soundtrack to this movie. Try listening to the CD with headphones! Thank you John Williams!

    And thanks for the clip.

  • john williams is a genius...

  • the best movie track i have ever heard

  • comment the track...idiot!

  • FUCK WAR! FUCK THE GOVENRMENT!

    Agreed!
