It's actually pretty worthless to take cover behind a car door. All a car door is is a thin piece of sheet metal. Far too many times I see pictures of officers taking cover behind a car door (a thin piece of sheet metal) or the trunk (two thin pieces of sheet metal with a bunch of air in between). The best place to take cover is behind the engine block. When you make a traffic stop, cant your cruiser at an angle towards the driver side, that way you have some engine inbetween you and whoever
