Ohhh man my Patois is going to be horrendous, my parents grew up in Jamaica when it was still a British colony so they're all speaky-spoke. when was in school EVEN JAMAICANS wld say u don't sound jamaican or look jamaican, and was like for me being new to this ctry, the ppl u live next to r either white, chineese, indian, etc... and u of ALL ppl, wld say this and that hurt, but anyway, tag on sis, my fav from the u.s. is light bright two cups white but not quite that hurt soooooooooo much, but they don't know the real JAMAICA, just the myth of guys on the beach doing the stella got her groove back or other nonsense.

yo,mi luv u mix of patois and english,lol.you forgot to tell them about the ethnicity of the people how we are made up of like 90% african ancestry then the rest is chinese, spanish, indian, scottish, german, and....the rest.i am jamaican too and i know my history. and you right about patois being a language.it is...thewre are three variations of it also which you should look upon.thats the reason why sometiems it sounds like english.lata and bless

patois isnt a dialect. it is a language. strong english influence but african too. synatx, sentence structure and freedom etc are not the same as english.

look at [russian and ukrainian] or [madeconian and bulgarian] or [catalan and spanish] you can make the same argument that one of those in the three pairs is a dialect of the other yet they are all official languages. so why not patois? there are many more examples of these pairs in the world as well.

I was just there for winter break and had my full of good food. Its so hard to find good Jamaican food on a regular basis. I love curry goat and oxtail though...and bammy! I love bammy with anything!

It must be hard being in Michigan though. I grew up in the states and if it wasn't for living in NY/NJ I would be so out of touch with so much of the culture.
