Survivor Horror based games were never about the gameplay being over the top. It was about being scary. I did not care all that much about 4 or Origins as much as the first 3 games.
When I played through Dead Space that made me jump and freak out at parts as opposed to this crap.
The story doesnt resemble the movie, the environment does. Where in the hell is that church in the other 3 games? I saw it in the movie but not in the Silent Hill I have come to love.
i dont think either game are worth comparison because they are completely different. RE1 wasnt scary to me it had great piuzzles and monsters, SH1 cared the shit out of me cuz it was freaky and had to do with sacrificial religion and scary stuff as for re just had to deal with a virus. the creeepy mosters in this game compared to zombies and ginat spiders is kinda unfair. The entire game is in the dark as for resident evil always had lit areas to play through and im speaking of all of them,
i think they should have the monsters pop out at you in all kinds of holes break doors down it really scares the shit out of me on games when that happens

I don't compare any entry to any other in the series. The original is my favorite. Homecoming is my second favorite... I do play Homecoming for the atmosphere and experience... Homecoming is hands down the most surreal game in the series for me, its environments are incredible, it has the best characters and deep, disturbing story... You however are ignoring what the game offers in favor of being a weeaboo / purist.

In terms of being atmospheric, Silent Hill 2 beats it on every note. 1-4 were made by Japanese and it shows...ALOT.
Environments were not scary for shit, I played all the other games and this by far takes the burnt piece of the cake. It was the most uninspired story out of all the games and it hold no relevance at all.
Made by a Japanese team absolutely inspired by _good_ American horror. In the end they came off feeling American, no surprise there.
And this game has a lot to offer. I felt it had better atmosphere than any of the other sequels. I don't find it as terrifying as 3 or as paranoia inducing as 2, but I find it to be _Incredibly_ surreal and disorienting. I absolutely loved it. You did not, but your opinion isn't anymore valid, as you seem to believe.
The game was "inspired by" the movie because Konami demanded them to tie elements of it in, because the film was a financial success.

Pyramid Head is not in this game. The Bogeyman is, but he is an entirely different manifestation that is based on the same figure Pyramid Head was based on.

The story behind the bogeyman makes perfect sense. The image Pyramid Head is based on has ties to "The Order". The Bogeyman is a demonized version of that which the founding families used to discipline their children... The manifestation we see is based on that.

Have you even played Silent Hill 2? You see that painting in the Historical Society? That's what James' Pyramid Head is based on. That figure also appears in a painting in Silent Hill 3 and Origins... The Bogeyman is based on whatever that figure is.

RE5 and SH Homecoming seem similar to me, except that Homecoming was more of a movie tie in game than an actual sequel.

Also the combat was a challenge the first playthrough and it made it very tense and dreadful. But like every other game in the series, on subsequent playthroughs the combat no longer is an issue....
Also did you come into the series since the first one? Because every sequel is drastically different from the original (except for Origins which is cookie cutter), it's just how the series works.
The combat was never great in this series. I have no idea what you see in it. At least Resident Evil did somewhat of a good job taking an action approach, it was fun.

There was nothing scary at all about this game. What was there to be scared about? Why was Pyramid head there? Pyramid head was a part of James subconscious, his 'sexual lust' It was purely fan service.
Homecoming adds a bunch of back story to the overall mythos... Origins tells the half-assed story of Travis' childhood, while managing to tack on information about Alessa and the ritual that _we already knew_.

Im sure the future of Silent Hill games will only continue to deteriorate. Afterall, it was Japan who started it and they gave it up.

i dont think either game are worth comparison because they are completely different. RE1 wasnt scary to me it had great piuzzles and monsters, SH1 cared the shit out of me cuz it was freaky and had to do with sacrificial religion and scary stuff as for re just had to deal with a virus. the creeepy mosters in this game compared to zombies and ginat spiders is kinda unfair. The entire game is in the dark as for resident evil always had lit areas to play through and im speaking of all of them,

Silent Hill 2 is great and all, but Silent Hill and Silent Hill: Homecoming both easily top it, for me. Hell, even The Room does... Silent Hill 2 and 3 both sit somewhere above Origins as far as my list goes.

Crapcoming was nothing but a broken combat system. It was almost entirely action orientated just like Resident Evil 5.
This is not survival horror. Its like this game was a tribute to the movie.

I don't compare any entry to any other in the series. The original is my favorite. Homecoming is my second favorite... I do play Homecoming for the atmosphere and experience... Homecoming is hands down the most surreal game in the series for me, its environments are incredible, it has the best characters and deep, disturbing story... You however are ignoring what the game offers in favor of being a weeaboo / purist.

What the game is offering? What is it offering? Please forbid tell me what I missed! I played through the entire game and let me tell you, it was horribly disappointing!
In terms of being atmospheric, Silent Hill 2 beats it on every note. 1-4 were made by Japanese and it shows...ALOT.
Environments were not scary for shit, I played all the other games and this by far takes the burnt piece of the cake. It was the most uninspired story out of all the games and it hold no relevance at all.

Made by a Japanese team absolutely inspired by _good_ American horror. In the end they came off feeling American, no surprise there.
And this game has a lot to offer. I felt it had better atmosphere than any of the other sequels. I don't find it as terrifying as 3 or as paranoia inducing as 2, but I find it to be _Incredibly_ surreal and disorienting. I absolutely loved it. You did not, but your opinion isn't anymore valid, as you seem to believe.

The game was "inspired by" the movie because Konami demanded them to tie elements of it in, because the film was a financial success.
There is Barbed wire all over Silent Hill 1...
Pyramid Head is not in this game. The Bogeyman is, but he is an entirely different manifestation that is based on the same figure Pyramid Head was based on.

The story behind the bogeyman makes perfect sense. The image Pyramid Head is based on has ties to "The Order". The Bogeyman is a demonized version of that which the founding families used to discipline their children... The manifestation we see is based on that.
There is a LOT of barbed wire in Silent Hill 1, this just further discredits your arguments.

Have you even played Silent Hill 2? You see that painting in the Historical Society? That's what James' Pyramid Head is based on. That figure also appears in a painting in Silent Hill 3 and Origins... The Bogeyman is based on whatever that figure is.
There's barbed wire in a lot of places in Silent Hill 1, it sounds like you haven't played it... I'm working on a runthrough of it now and I've seen some in the otherworld Midwich Elementary and Alchemilla.
Also, reviews ranged from Great to bad.

I played all of them. The 'bogeyman' was pure fan service, he looks no different from the movie at all. Hell even his helmet looks sharper just like the pyramid head in the movie
The fact that they did not come up of a new monster design for this 'bogeyman' shows how much laziness was put into this game. SH3 looked better than this game and that came out years ago on PS2
I dont count this Silent Hill toward the other games. Whether you like it or not it is a movie tie-in game and nothing more.

Its story doesn't tie into the film at all, though. However it ties into the games' story, easily.
The use of the film's pyramid head is fan service, yes. However the story they created for it and the detail put into him is far from "lazy". It works perfectly in the game, given the story that you seem to be ignoring.

And no, I was not relating the weak story to the movie and I see no relevance as to how Crapcoming relates to the others at all besides the rehashed monster designs.
Explain to me why Silent Hill: Crapcoming is $20.00 *New* now and Silent Hill 2 and 3 are at least $24.99 Pre-owned. Even Silent Hill 4 is selling for just as much at $19.99 USD

Resident Evil was actually successful at taking an action approach (after butchering the story) but Silent Hill failed at taking that path.
When horror themed titles become boring there is nothing else to turn to but mindless action apparently.

Even if they are from the same country, they would produce completely different functions for the game. You can expect both companys to have same ideas. Imagine every game producer having the same idea. What do you think the gaming world would be like now?

RE5 and SH Homecoming seem similar to me, except that Homecoming was more of a movie tie in game than an actual sequel.
Idn it seems that almost every game developer has 1 thing on their mind and that's to make a 1st person shooter.
RE and SH previous installments were unique and had a distinct atmosphere. Not these new ones.
Developers need to be more creative and come up of new ideas before we see titles like 'Resident Evil 9: The Lost Chapters of Mecha-Leon in Space.' (credit to Leggy)

Also the combat was a challenge the first playthrough and it made it very tense and dreadful. But like every other game in the series, on subsequent playthroughs the combat no longer is an issue....
Also did you come into the series since the first one? Because every sequel is drastically different from the original (except for Origins which is cookie cutter), it's just how the series works.

This was the defining moment that made me sell this game. When I saw humans dressed up in hazardous outfits WITH GUNS!
There was nothing scary at all about this game. What was there to be scared about? Why was Pyramid head there? Pyramid head was a part of James subconscious, his 'sexual lust' It was purely fan service.

Homecoming adds a bunch of back story to the overall mythos... Origins tells the half-assed story of Travis' childhood, while managing to tack on information about Alessa and the ritual that _we already knew_.
