The interviewer in minute 2:45 - 2:55 states that "in this country, the RICHEST and MOST EVOLVED, 92 percent believe in God". Just because we are the richest doesn't mean we are the most evolved, especially when you measure us against more secular nations like Norway/Sweden in terms of education/ health/crime rate. On this one occasion, the comparison between evolution and the creation story in Genesis was explained. I WISH I had taken notes, but the gist was that in the Bible, the account was given in a theological sense, which, if taken how it was meant, goes right along with evolution and they support each other.
YES Pozo, the Bible contains MANY allegorical 'stories' whose purpose are to teach morals symbolically. I am not 'dismissing' the story when I rightfully acknowledge it as it was meant. The 'whole' story could NOT have been made up due to all the corroborating evidence from uninvolved sources in historical events. I thought Religulous was good as far as it went. It only really dealt with the "Abrahamic" religions though; religions like Buddhism were barely mentioned. But Buddhism is (at core) practical & non-dogmatic & even atheistic; the criticisms that destroy Christianity don't apply. Meditation can be scientifically pursued & checked. It's another thing entirely from Western mythmaking.

The interviewer in minute 2:45 - 2:55 states that "in this country, the RICHEST and MOST EVOLVED, 92 percent believe in God". Just because we are the richest doesn't mean we are the most evolved, especially when you measure us against more secular nations like Norway/Sweden in terms of education/ health/crime rate. Secondly, the interviewer's comments prove nothing. The Romans where the richest and most evolved of their time and yet their gods were nonsense too.

Pozo, God's teachings have always been about people being good to each other, fighting against enemies that oppress the masses, all good things. God would never suggest drowning children. You don't need to KNOW God's mind to figure THAT one out. How do we decide when someone's crazy? Well, if you were sane, you'd know that. Pozo, that 'story' in the Bible is just THAT: a 'story'. An allegorical attempt using symbolism with the intent of conveying certain moral principles. In this case, the moral seems to be that if a person perseveres through hardship, he can accomplish anything.
This story shows how we should love God no matter what. God didn't really do those things to anybody; it is simply an 'example'.

Pozo, I once attended a 'fireside' meeting (informal gathering) where various topics get discussed; sometimes punctuated by very knowledgeable people. On this one occasion, the comparison between evolution and the creation story in Genesis was explained. I WISH I had taken notes, but the gist was that in the Bible, the account was given in a theological sense, which, if taken how it was meant, goes right along with evolution and they support each other.

YES Pozo, the Bible contains MANY allegorical 'stories' whose purpose are to teach morals symbolically. I am not 'dismissing' the story when I rightfully acknowledge it as it was meant. The 'whole' story could NOT have been made up due to all the corroborating evidence from uninvolved sources in historical events. And prophets have made unerring predictions full of explicit details, NO vagueness or double-entendres whatsoever. The predictions were very plain as to WHAT would happen and WHEN.

Pozo, all diseases, even those passed down to children, come from some deviation from God's Teachings or other. When people do as they please, with no regard for God's advice, this is the result. Don't blame God for those illnesses.
How we can KNOW that God wouldn't have told a woman to drown her children, is by God's own teachings in His Holy Writings where He says that the Holy Spirit is the ONLY voice of God that gets heard through the voices of His Chosen Messengers like Christ, Moses etc.

Pozo, ignorance is another factor that causes illnesses to be created and passed along to future generations; how far down the line is unknown at this point.
The fact is that God has set up laws expecting people to follow them. He has warned them what would happen (maybe vaguely in some cases but that something BAD would happen) if they disobeyed. The punishment is INHERENT in the law. Just like if you 'disobey' the law of gravity and step off a cliff, the punishment is 'built-in' that law.

"Uncompromising attack", "full-front assault," "cold blade of logic", and especially questioning whether Maher believed he was flawed.

yonpolite, what you need to be made aware of is that Jesus wasn't just a great person. He could debate with highly educated rabbis without EVER HAVING BEEN TAUGHT. School teachers admitted they couldn't teach Him as He already knew more than them-at a very young age. Jesus was predicted 490 years before by Daniel in the Old Testament. The 'snake', the 'ribs' and all 'that' was WAY before the time of Christ. Anyway, those stories are parables and not to be taken literally, but symbolically.

Hmmm, I was an atheist for 4 years. When I started learning and researching Christianity, I became a very strong Christian. So, Bill's method only works on arrogant people who want to be like George Carlin.
Funny how he says, "I don't know and neither does anyone else." Yet, he says everyone else is stupid and listens to fairy tales. If he doesn't know, the how does he know?

Incidentally,for me it was the fact that Daniel had prophesied/predicted the arrival of the Messiah (Jesus Christ) 490 years before the birth of Christ.
Since then, I've also discovered many enlightening facts too numerous to mention here. But I will tell you one:
When Christ was telling His disciples on the Mount of Olives "I go to My Father to prepare a place"...

...jamesdavidtimmons-I apologize for 'going on' but I ran out of room. Anyway, Christ has just told His disciples that He was going away and would return. When they asked Him to tell them when He'd return, He referred them to the chapter in Daniel just before the one that predicted His 1st coming. In that chapter Daniel clearly gives the date of the 2nd coming, using the same time-scale form as for the 1st coming: one day=one year. The year 1844 coincides with the arrival of Baha'u'llah. There appears to be a gap between the 69th week (verse 25) and the 70th week (verse 27):

The fact that I don't know an answer to something does not mean that I think that anything could be the answer.
Of the top of my head, I don't know what the answer to 13,905 x 2334 is, but I know it's not 3... the fact that I don't know doesn't mean that you do, or that the answer you think is right is not nonsensical.

That is not at all true. it is more around 40% or less... there are Catholics, Mormons, protestants etc. Jews and atheists, agnostics and people that don't title themselves. I think you meant to say that 90% of your church is Christians and the rest child molesters.

If god was so loving.. He would have got rid of Satan before the serpent had tricked Adam & Eve in the beggining. Also if he would have gotten rid of the beast, Jesus wouldn't of had to risk being sacrificed. Religion is a prison. You cannot break loose for fear that the higher being will send you to hell. it's either Believe or Perish. Thats not any kind of love i want.
