Unless I don't quite understand it, this seems to me like a terrible idea and classic 'feature creep.' I don't use a search engine to find stuff I already know about. I use it to find stuff I don't know a.k.a. what other people know. The stuff I want at the top is the stuff I have yet to discover.
The simpering calm voice of creeping corporate personal observation panels telling you can always "opt out opt out opt out" yeah.
Your words are set forth to quickly snuff our children's ability to think coherently. Take them back now. Apologize. Walk with a mark on your forehead for the evil you attempted to sell us.
You have given up your humanity and you want us to do the same. You have power and you will never have respect.
Why is it that when I click to watch these videos. The thumbnail of the presenters, I'll immediately know that they are going to be snared at in the comment section.
What does this mean for SEO now? Is SEO Dead? What's the point anymore? Google enables this feature off the bat, so unless you know about it, you're using it unless you deactivate it and most people won't even know it's there. Companies have spent thousands to rank better, now it seems unless you were at the top of the searches before, now it may be next to impossible to get found or am I missing something?
Would this be considered the death of SEO? The SEO guys are shaking in their boots. If they can't tell where they and their current clients are ranking how can they tell their new clients they will rank well for their services?
I hated this and logged out of Google mail intentional, because it messed with my searching too much.. I don't want Google to show me what I've already seen.. It seemed to take away from the overall search experience, due to showing the same websites over and over.. If that was the only website I wanted to see, I would go directly to that website, not by a search. How are you supposed to find fresh content, if the same sites are served? Bing will get my traffic if Google goes this route.
WOW! google promises caffeine wouldn't be launched till after the holidays so webmasters and websites wouldn't have to worry about their ranksings and this totally screws up most of my sites i work on. how is the normal person doing a search really going to realize what they are seeing and turn it off, they are just going to click and go on.

so if that personalized thingy is an option then what takes its place when it's not turned on -- and please don't give me that crap about how it's related to the number of web links.
btw, i work with these two guys and they're all over each other (practically corn-holin' right in front of ya) all day long. take it home, bitches!!
Brain Limiting Feature. It's like with the word-hints. Very handy but limiting our vocabulary and creativity. Instead of promoting variety soon everyone will just know blue, red and green. This another 'improvement' will promote well known brands, singers, songs, actors, scientists, events etc.
HOW YOU ARE GOING TO PROMOTE NEW TELENTS, IDEAS, ARTISTS and PRODUCTS? Well, what for! We've got Madonna and MJ and should be happy. Google is becoming a typical commercial radio station.
Unfortunately, the video doesn't mention this: "To include the web pages you visit in your web history, you need to install Toolbar with PageRank enabled. PageRank will send information about these pages to Google and associate it with your Google Account." :x
I hope that search personalization doesn't give people a false impression of what's being said online.
If a racist skinhead searches for racist skinhead stuff all day, are Google searches going to begin to make him think that his views are mainstream and that everyone in the world agrees with him?
Google should make sure that it's always easy for people to switch back and forth between personalized and non-personalized searches so they can see and understand the difference.
You afraid someone is going to find out you have been searching for grandma porn?
They did say an ANONYMOUS cookie. If you are that tin foil hat paranoid, you might want to move to a cabin in the woods and go feral. Face it, in this modern and connected world people know a LOT more about you than you may want. There are benefits and consequences for that.
If you were smart you'd simply turn off their ability to monitor. Just like THEY ACTUALLY TOLD YOU HOW IN THE VIDEO. Or you could search with cookies disabled, such as with Chrome's "incognito" function.
I wish Google would finally learn how to hide ignorant comments from YouTube pages.
Problem is, most web users aren't 'smart' enough to know they have personalized search enabled, never mind know how to turn it off. Also, it turns itself back on when cookies are deleted. But thanks for the insight.
Double-edged sword. You'll find your answers in first page or after hundred pages. Good ideal but dangerous. Also, don't put it as default, privacy first...
btw, google video without captions?????? how you did it???
But sa,y on the contrary, I want different resulyts every time I search the same thing, then what? It can happen in the case where you are searching for something specific, and you dont want to spend your time again on the pages you have already seen. Its important. PLease work on it and let me know if you come out with this.
This really seems like a poor idea for the situations of public and shared computers, not everyone is so informed as how these things work.
There are people like us who are interested in Google and web technology, and then there are people I and most of us work with who will NEVER know about this. They do not care. Yet their web history will encroach on the results of eachother.
Later in the future i bet there will be a google bank that has google credit cards and debit cards. Go out into the street and ask anyone if they know what google is and the'll have at least heard of it.
