Another point is that $250,000 is NOT a high budget movie by any standards. I plaid a zombie in a super, super, super low budget film two years ago that couldn't even afford to pay the extras. This movie had a budget of $1.5 million. $250,000 will barely pay for locations.

He has probably put his own money into the project and just simply needs more money. The cost of equipment alone including the cost of the camera, lenses, audio equipment, would easily come to around 50,000 which im sure a lot of this was covered with his own funds, and these donations are covering the costs of everything else. I have had to spent 10,000 on my own photography equipment and that still isn't enough, I have to ask for equipment from studios.
If you really think about it, entertainers are beggers... They don't contribute economically into society, they are simply there to entertain us. Thus, putting a dollar value on entertainment is extremely subjective on the viewers, just like the poets by the streets in the old days. James is simply an extremely talented modern day poet who is performing on the Internet super highway. How much he gets depends on how much we like him...

This is not the way to admirably fund a film. You go to "investors" (i.e. people who get their money back, plus a cut of any royalties). Trust me, James has $100,000 of his own to fund the film. With indie films, its supposed to be a risk. My assumption is that the script was sent to small-time investors and was turned down. No one outside of the internet gaming community knows who James Rolfe is. I don't expect this film to get a theatrical release.

He has probably put his own money into the project and just simply needs more money. The cost of equipment alone including the cost of the camera, lenses, audio equipment, would easily come to around 50,000 which im sure a lot of this was covered with his own funds, and these donations are covering the costs of everything else. I have had to spent 10,000 on my own photography equipment and that still isn't enough, I have to ask for equipment from studios.

If you really think about it, entertainers are beggers... They don't contribute economically into society, they are simply there to entertain us. Thus, putting a dollar value on entertainment is extremely subjective on the viewers, just like the poets by the streets in the old days. Even if he got $500,000 - that's not what I would consider a 'huge budget'. If the movie looks and sounds like Evil Dead ($300,000), that'd be plenty for me. Expecting a grandiose film experience because he has a half million is probably stretching your own expectations way beyond the reality. But you're absolutely right, James is a savvy businessmen, which is a necessity if you want to seriously make films. Not everything has to be a low budget indie film.

This is not the way to admirably fund a film. You go to "investors" (i.e. people who get their money back, plus a cut of any royalties). Trust me, James has $100,000 of his own to fund the film. With indie films, its supposed to be a risk. My assumption is that the script was sent to small-time investors and was turned down. No one outside of the internet gaming community knows who James Rolfe is. I don't expect this film to get a theatrical release.

With a bit of luck this extra money he has asked for might mean his movie wont have to use hotel room/corridors in the scenes, like other "movies" of recent by other reviewers.
Nintendo nerd should be given money from his fans if they want to see, otherwise it might have to be shot in backyards/ hotel corridors/rooms etc (ie obvious distracting poor settings), then there would be no point, no one else has his ability or fans
