not that easy to play bells, i did the lower octives so big bells, and concidering if i remember correctly there are believe it or not like 35 different ways to play a bell.
Before I transferee to public school I played handbells at my catholic private school for the nights of Columbus. Not as easy as it looks. It does take practice. It's not all about shaking a bell. I loved it though. It helped me learn where the keys are on a piano.
Still playing bells? Try memorizing where you place your bells on the table, and where they are in relation to each other, you don't want them clinging against each other. Also, really try to get the ring right, the hand motion I mean, it really makes a difference.
hibund4, Don't be pompous or arrogant like some who posted here. Remember: handbell ringers do not perform as individuals. It takes teamwork, discipline, and hardwork - all mediated by a good director/conductor to bring out the best in a group's latent potential. Interpretation and experience matters a great deal. It could easily mean the difference between a cacophony of noise and a rich, beautiful, and unforgettable listening experience. Respect each other. be humble but curious. have fun! :-)
question when you guys play handbells...... lol... did u use to high light the color of your notes? ... thats the only way I could play... it only sounds cool...when your right there...... im sad bc I really want to hear some handbells.
What is it with all you people going "HA WE ARE BETTA 1!11 From the comments I can see that most of you played handbells in high school. I am an adult and have been playing handbels for fifteen years in my freetime. It is NOT about how complicated a piece is. It's how it's interpreted and presented. Some overly fast, compicated so - called "pro" - handbell pieces make me want to GAG because there is just nothing to them. I would always prefer something like this.

Dude, try playing Puer Natus Est Nobis. Now THAT is complicated. Go ahead, try it. I've been playing handbells for five years and Puer is a level 6+. not trying to brag, but there are way more complicated songs that are way more hard than they sound besides this one.
Actually, your kind of ARE bragging. I've been playing handbells for more then FIFTEEN years and it's not at all about how complicated a piece is. Who cares about difficult pieces on top speed? Technique isn't everything.
And who asked you how long you played for? I didn't. And yea, No one asked me,but I understand that. I never said this song sucked, I never said it was crap. Because it IS good. All I said that there are more complicated songs out there, and maybe to my bell choir, technique and the level of difficulty IS everything.

@blockthisuser And what would qualify something as a "real instrument," if you don't mind explaining your inane comment?

Any idea where to get this music?
I play handbells myself, and my group would like this song.
And how many octaves is it for?
Because a friend and I would like to do this as a duet for our next CD and audition possibly.

@11bostond from my experience, it's actually one of the easiest ensemble instruments to play. just need to have a head for rhythm.
