I grew up listening to him and moe bandy but also seen him in person when I was but 15 at the Country Palace in Toledo,Oh the same bar that Kenny Rodgers mentions in his song Luceal...LOVE THIS SONG HAVE SINCE I WAS A KID HE WAS A HELL OF A SINGER
The last time I heard this song was when I was 14 in my friend's mom's station wagon (I'm 49 now). Just found the song TODAY. I still remembered most of the main riff.
I'm shocked this has not had a re-make, very memorable lyrics, particularly when I don't listen to Country and I never owned the record and I can sing to it even now.
I think it's an oversimplification to say that "Joe Stampley is a better singer" than Moe Bandy. They each have their own unique style, and individually, they sing different kinds of country music. Stampley is kind of bluesy, whereas Bandy is more of a honky-tonker. They both have entirely different styles. It's like comparing apples and oranges. Just my two cents.
Thanks for the posting. Great singer!! I know his son Tony Stampley in Nashville, a great singer himself. Also a world class songwriter. Jim G. in Wis.

Love him and Moe. Each one is great. Stampley has a pretty voice and brings out emotion as Conway did.

One of Joe's great hits. Thanks for posting. Was this the album that had the song that went something like, "Billy get me a woman"?

I only heard of Joe Stampley through the "Moe & Joe" duets with Moe Bandy.
It's funny, it turns out Stampley was a much better singer than Bandy ever was.
