@shredchris Hey man im going to review the little bbig giant soon on my new channel plz sub to my current gaming channel so that you may see my post showing off my other music channnels. If you love kiss and older bands i have big plans to do the best kiss talk about videos possible.
I think these amps are perfect in every way. they have a great plexi sound with celestion green backs. I can get a very good array from blues, hard rock, kiss, metallica(using pedal). flawless amp.
@coreyfromtheband nowhere at the moment, but next month the first single off our album will be available for download from my channel. Not everything will be tracked through only the blackheart stuff, but a lot of it will.
I cant figure out your accent...sounded normal till you started sayin "blackheart' and few other words were like "wtf did he say"...so what are you? Austramerican or ..heh. Great review though!
I have one. It is difficult to get a good clean tone out of it, but I have a Peavey Classic 30 for clean tones. This does what it is supposed to do, though: decent overdiriven sound without the neighbours showing up with torches and pitchforks. :-)
@tight384 Well I'm french but I don't have a french accent as you probably noticed, I have been exposed to various english accents when I was growing up and learning english so I'm probably a mix of all of those... :)
Sounds pretty good, but this video also proves to me why the Proguitarshop videos are so popular - A majority of the time, Andy plays rather than talking and lets the equipment pretty much speak for itself.
Although people could go about a better way of giving you advice of demo-ing equipment - It really is quite a bother to listen to so much commentary rather than just hearing what this amp has to offer.
@Koreanflow I'm the other way around. I like when someone not only shows the gear but comments on the gear too. It's just a matter of what kind of review you're looking for really and I think both have their place...
Well, most people will use this amp in that way to get great tube heavy tones boosted by an OD pedal of some sort, or to get half-clean tones with a distortion box on top. I demo the amp's natural tone at first and then the OD os on and off through the video if you didn't notice, but considering there's only one knob there's really not much more to say than what I said... So I decided to also demo other ways the amp could be used...
It's very fun to use on a 4x12. Not really loud enough for band practice or anything, but for home use and recording it's great on a 4x12. I do that a lot actually... :)
hey chris i bought this amp and im pretty happy with it so far. only thing is when running to a 1x12" with celestion v30 the bass is all muddy and overpowering.
does the blackheart 1x10" or 1x12" sound muddy to you?
The amp is not really the tight type, but it shouldn't be "flabbing out" as you described. Maybe V30s are just too bassy. I know a 10 inch speaker will give you less bass, and probably help tighten the bass up.
@shredchris If you want to show how good an amp sounds, it would be better to have a guitar that does not wobble out of tune. That just makes the amp sound loose and buzzy. If you take the time and effort to film these videos and upload them, which are very helpful to folks like me who dod not have access to that amp (or others), I think the 30 seconds it takes to tune your guitar would be well worth it. Just me 2 cents.
@af17790 This has been adressed before. The guitar was in tune WHEN I started shooting the video, but those types of guitar can be temperamental and sometimes go out of tune very easily.... I think the amp still sounds like the amp, even though I agree an "in -tune" video is more pleasing to the ear.
Can I get a good hardrock lead sound with a MXR M-108 EQ pedal in front? It provides a clean boost up to 12 db to drive the amp just a little bit more
No idea bro' but 12 extr dbs go a long way already, so I'd say Van Halen territory and tone pretty much... I know it responds well to my OD pedals with not much gain but tons of added volume...
What type of distortion pedal were you using? Also, considering you had to use a distortion pedal to get a more metal tone do you think it would be better to buy the 5 watt little giant and use a distortion pedal with it instead?
The nice side of this amp is the heavy tube crunch you get at a manageable volume level which is impossible to get from the LG quietly enough. But if you only need very distorted tones, then any wattage will do since your gain won't come from the amp anyways...
They're both good, the BH has much better cleans and less gain which makes it a better base to expand upon, but the TT is self sufficient gain wise and that can be cool too.... try them both and see what works for you...
With single coils you can get more clean headroom. I just got a 91" american strat and sold my 06" gibson les paul with burstbuckers. For some more clean headroom I am using an MXR 10 band EQ (you can set the volume knob up for a boast and the gain knob down to suck out some gain, and I am using an MXR dyna comp. for another clean boost. This will give a very nice and louder clean sound. I also put a weber speaker in my 1X10 blackheart cab (had to route out a small amount to make it fit.
The pickups are standard Alnico V pickups, not uber-powerful at all, pretty comparable to standard gibson 57/burstbuckers pickups. It breaks up at around 2 actually which is really low volume.
I just received mine today and I must say I am totally blown away! I didn't have my 2x12 combo to plug into so I plugged into my 1x15" bass cab just to hear the amp. It really does sound amazing at low volume! If your considering this you will not be dissapointed!
About 10-15 watts I would say, but I haven't played solid state amps in a while and they would be used in a totally different way. So the comparison is a moot point. i suppose you wanted to know if this could be used in reheasal and the such, and the answer is no. it's way too quiet, even though it's about yelling loud at fult tilt.
It's more about recording, I want to record with a mild crunch, because for my distortion I've got a Dragonfly BM-1 distortion pedal, and so won't be driving it massively, so when on mild crunch is the volume gonna be loud enough to record from convincingly or would I have to turn the sensitivity up on the mic to the point where I pick up background noise?
I'd say Route 808 by visual sound or ZW44 by MXR. Both will get the job done nicely. But there are many OD pedals out there that will work fine too that I don't know of...
Sucks ! Maybe try contacting thomann and see if they can do something for you. Or get it from E-bay. I'm sure some sellers use E-bay and ship to Poland.
What are the benefits of getting the 10" Blackheart Cab over the 12"? You say that the 10" would be more distorted? Both cabs are the same price at my store. I'm just trying to understand the "less is more" approach.
The 10" would give a slightly brighter and tighter sound, distort a bit earlier, and give less overall volume because it's less watt-efficient and only 30 watts ( the input remains the same though so I doubt there will be a huge output level difference but still ).
Replace the V1 Tube with 12AX7 Tung sol and V2 with 12AY7 (or perhaps 12AU7)electroharmonix. Amp doesn't break so soon now and there's slightly increase in volume. You can always use stompboxes to make it sound dirty, but natural distortion this amp produces is quite good. Don't go for 10 inch speaker, buy 12 inch (same price). I'm planing to replace speaker in my BH112 cabinet with Celestion Vintage 30 or perhaps blue alnico. Only tube amp which you can use in your flat!9/10 Sry for my english
I've got my killer ant with same 12 inch BH speaker and the volume is something like my previous solid state 15W Ibanez TBR15 perhaps louder. I'm missing reverb, but tone is much much better!
Really Great Review! You should work for Blackheart Amps your demo helped make up my mind. Im buying One For sure! Thanks for posting This! Great Playing!
Thanks a lot bro'. Glad I could help. You'll love the little beasty. If you get a chance, plug it into a 4x12, it's surprisingly awesome in this configuration.
I like the looks of a micro-stack... And it sounds a little big "bigger" too with the second cab being a little bit closer to my ears. You could get and amp stand and get pretty much the same result tone wise even though 2 cabs will spread the sound a bit more obviously. .
The BH112 cabinets have 2 parallel input sockets, which makes them "daisy-chainable'. You plug the head into the first cab, then from that cab you go to the second cab. It's a very smart way to wire cabinets actually. The global load is then 8 ohms for 2 cabs. That applies only if you use Blackheart cabinets, but on the other hand, they are great, so why not use them ? ; )
Great demo. I have modded my killer ant with the BitMo mod kit - adds a tone control, optional boost, and line out. The tone really helps as I find the stock Ant to be a little on the darker side. The line out also sounds great run into another Amp - I run mine into a fender blues junior. Fantastic sounding OD (better than my pedals) at louder volumes when I need it.
I heard about the bitmo kit, but I don't really need it, it sounds good stock for me. For a few people that want more of the amp, it might be worth it though.
It's pretty loud but if you set it a 3 and use an OD stompbox, you get all the gain and singing qualities only a tube amp is capable of at speech level.
Blackheart make best value for money cabinets.
€400 for a 4x12 is amazing price!!

Just one question: does it break up very early? Cause it seems to crunch at about halfaway on the volume knob...
Do you use very powerful pickups?
jack83aq 2 years ago
The pickups are standard Alnico V pickups, not uber-powerful at all, pretty comparable to standard gibson 57/burstbuckers pickups. It breaks up at around 2 actually which is really low volume.
shredchris 2 years ago
Thanks, I'd like it for tube crunch for home practice, I think it would be a perfect choice!
If you were playin' with med-low output humbuckers, I guess it would still crunch at reasonable volumes with a Fender...

shredchris 2 years ago
Volume-wise, if it were to be compared to say a solid-state, how much power would it have the equivalent to?
Yyseth 2 years ago
About 10-15 watts I would say, but I haven't played solid state amps in a while and they would be used in a totally different way. So the comparison is a moot point. i suppose you wanted to know if this could be used in reheasal and the such, and the answer is no. it's way too quiet, even though it's about yelling loud at fult tilt.
shredchris 2 years ago
It's more about recording, I want to record with a mild crunch, because for my distortion I've got a Dragonfly BM-1 distortion pedal, and so won't be driving it massively, so when on mild crunch is the volume gonna be loud enough to record from convincingly or would I have to turn the sensitivity up on the mic to the point where I pick up background noise?
Yyseth 2 years ago
It's going to be loud enough alright. That's exactly what I'm explaining in the video at around 4:44 .
shredchris 2 years ago
What OD stomp-box would you recommend to use with this amp?
EuropeFactor 2 years ago

FiercelyFuzzy 2 years ago
Thank you.
The 10" would give a slightly brighter and tighter sound, distort a bit earlier, and give less overall volume because it's less watt-efficient and only 30 watts ( the input remains the same though so I doubt there will be a huge output level difference but still ).
hope you like your little monster...
