This is the grand dichotomy of RPG games. On one side you have the most immersive, story-based structure, which pretty much require the game to be single player (Fallout, Oblivion, Mass Effect, etc). On the other side you have the bland/generic structure but in which it's easy and possible to support multiplayers (i.e. WoW).

And because Mass Effect is great not much for its action but for its storyline and complex universe, making it multiplayer would be a tragedy.

@svallee I think it would be cool if they had a multiplayer seperate from the campaign where you can level up and earn weapons. Sort of like the style of Moderwarfare 2 except with amss effect stuff. if they coudl do that plus the acua story then that would be an awesome game. Wont happen though

I'm just glad I bought xbox360 instead of playstation 3. now I get to experience the best games, still, I'm not saying that playstation 3 is a bad console, but there's lots of better games for xbox360, that normally only would have been released at pc. I recommend halo 3 (for good online gameplay), mass effect, oblivion, fable 2, fallout 3, gears of war 1 and 2... soon there will be new halo games, as well as mass effect 2 and elder scroll V. even final fantasyn tekken and metal gear solid.
