  • i love mirai's double axel, she fliiees across the ice when she does it. seeing this video of her earlier in the season, it's great to see how much mirai has improved on her flow coming out of a jump. here she had practically no flow out of the first combo, the two doubles almost looked like they were done on the same spot. i also wish she could work on that shakiness on her blade when she lands, but her jumps are improving. she's definitely worked hard. but as always, her spins are magnificent.

  • This music and program looks like extremely hard to recover after even the smallest mistake. I think it is because the music doesn't have distinct beat to it and the choreography is extremely complex. Mirai did wonderfully at the Olympics however.

  • まさに、「日米ミライの星」

  • それにしても若い!!!

  • OMG MIRIA IN FIRST IN THE WORLD CHAPION AFTER SHORT PROGRAM!!!!!! YUNA KIM IS IN 7TH!!! MOA ASAD IS IN 2ND... OMG CATN WAIT TILL LP tommorow

  • She's amazing, and she should have won at least Bronze today in the olympics but that damn canadians mom died so they gave it to her.

  • Oh, i don´t think judges give to Joannie a medal because her mom´s died. I think Mirai didn´t win a medal because her sixth position of the short program. maybe if Mirai skated later in the short program she will stay in a 4th position.

I agree with you that Mirai was better than Rochette at the free, but Rochette were third at the short and Mirai 6th. This position is the reason because Mirai has not a olympic medal in her olympic debut.

  • her position in the short program is irrelevant because in the free, she scored 126 and joannie scored 130. in any event, joannie would have placed higher than mirai despite having an inferior freeskate. again this is the issue with bias in judging. joannie has been around and will be favoured as a veteran over the newcomer, mirai.

  • She's improved so much since this, I'm so proud of her! Goodluck to her tommorrow in the Olympic LP!!

  • Miria needs to work on those landing.. its looks kind of scary , but she's great and soon kick YUna's ass

  • her landings r horrible!! but she's very good !!

  • I know that hers are better than mine!!!!!!

  • Wow. This young lady has so much potential. What a lot to like about her. Her spins are gorgeous, spiral positions lovely. She has her own style too.

Yes, a shame about the jumps. But you get the feeling she knows what to correct with her coach and how to fix it. Isn't she only 15?

The only thing that's criminal, is the music choice. That's really her coach's fault, though Oy! Indeed! :-)

  • it should be illegal to skate to carmen nowadays...

go mirai you rock girl (:

  • 7:08 LOL

    he's so cute!

  • You're absolutely right. And the Nutcracker. Scheherazade is quickly climbing up the list, too. Oy.

  • her jump is not steady yet but her spin is good... nice !

  • KAWAII

  • poor thing. she did a great job. i think if her landings were more secure and her flow was more at ease she'd be on top of her game. beautiful spins - one of the best i've been seeing this season

  • why did she get 6th here in the free skate? it was so good!

  • She ended 6th because she has serious jumping issues she needs to fix, and when she makes mistakes like falling, stepping out, underrotating then she will not get rewarded, and that is exactly what happened. She has too many mistakes in her jumps, and you can tell by her face in the K&C.

  • much better than last year- she has a triple toe in a combo again!! even if it isnt a 3-3 combo i still like a 2a-3toe combo!!!!!

  • and great spins and 2 3lutzs!!!!! i was so sad when she took out her second 3lutz last year!!! GO MIRAI 2010!

  • is frank carrol her coach?

  • It's early in the season, mirai will get better.GO MIRAI!

  • i love watching mirai, zhang, mao and sasha - they are so flexible and always come up with new stuff, so exciting eventhough it doesnt always work. but thats the charm - well done mirai! i love the ending spins - amazingly beautiful!!!

  • Duckling, she was clearly disappointed in herself after her skating when she fell. The starting point in her program was brilliant but something happened and she fell. She had clearly high hopes for a a completely clean and flawless program. Now, I hope you understand the point why she wasn't in her usual joyous expression

  • and i don't know if you have heard about the resent interview of the US skaters. But, Mirai, was the only skater that really was completety honest out there. I think that is great and refreshing. She is open...But still mentally immature. It even shows here at the end...Don't let it effect you, Mirai. YOu are still young and you should be getting better. Don' let the pressure get to you... Or you will be a mess someday. being able to lose well is probably more important then winning.

  • I think she has a lot of potential. She appears to have more speed and energy then the other us skaters. Her jumps are more difficutl then any other US skater(but not clean) And she will be gettng stronger. I think her weakness his her head; she allows the pressures to get to her. As for Yuna: Yuna wins because of her jumps. Not because she has a beautiful, layback, spiral or spins. And she does connect great to the music.. I like that. But she still wins because of her jumps, not her artistry.

  • DG system is enemy=(

    get over it Mirai!!!

  • and her jumps continue to be a hot mess.

  • Why Carmen? It shoud be prohibited in figure skating.

  • LOL! Nah, it's like a rite of passage for every female skater. Everyone from Katerina Witt to Michelle Kwan has skated to Carmen and everyone inbetween. It's like it's mandatory or something! ;)

  • its disappointing to see her face.

    5th.

    after winning the sp.

    wow.

    :(

  • i agree. but maybe next time she will do a lot better.

  • No, Kristi Yamaguchi is Mirai's idol. Where did you get that info from?

  • umm she said her fave skater was mao asada..

  • She's passed Michelle in jumps only. Artistically? Yu-Na is the best since Michelle to deliver programs so thoroughly but she has yet to make a panel of judges cry from the beauty of her skating. Don't get me wrong, Yu-Na is the best out there right now...hands down. but no one is close to "jumping" Michelle at this point. Once Yu-Na dominates the sport for about 10 years, wins at least 4 more world titles, 2 olympic medals and that gold Kwan never managed, then she will have passed Michelle.

  • The convo between Mirai and Frank in the kiss and cry is adorable and hilarious! =)

  • I was so bored of that program. Now Tarasova would of brought out the drama that was needed in this program!!

I know I know she's national champion and I love Nagasu but I think she could of benefited a couple solid years on the junior circuit to build up her skating.

Also what the heck happened to Frank Caroll?? I think he worked the old scoring great! But this new one.. Which is sad because I think he understands the true beauty of skating.

  • Honestly, I don't think any choreographer can really do anything with Carmen anymore. There are only so many different arrangements and way too many people use this music that it's totally lost its magic and impact. It's presumptuous of any skater to think that they can perform Carmen better than the legions of people before them. We've long since past the point that when you hear Carmen, you just groan.

  • and at a distance with her dress and hair, she looks like michelle kwan via 2002.

  • yes! especially the ending pose with the intense stare!

  • its a program with lots of potential to grow throughout the season. I think being dinged for 5 triples was a bit harsh, but if anything, this will motivate nagasu! im definately rooting for her!

  • Still young with a lot to be improved.. her posture reminds me of Yuna Kim, beautiful.. just needs to solve her problem of underrotation.. (although Yuna was much better than Nagasu at age 16)

  • you know, what I LOVE about Mirai is that she looks wonderful and is interesting to watch, even without the music (i don't have a sound system). Mirai is like Sasha in a way where they are both amazing, but falter in the least expected places. Mirai, you did a wonderful job here, don't be disappointed. I personally think you are just as good as yu na in presentation. I loved your fingers and arms - keep up your great work!

  • Really? Her fingers and arms always bug me (She's such a good skater, and I'm so weird about details like that, so I always hate how annoyed I get at her programs when they really are good). I hope she fixes her underrotation problems, though. Good luck, mirai!

  • she is sweet and adorable. She just needs to do better on those jumps. If she does, she can score very hight. She is also very emotional..That has its good and its bad...Don't be so hard on yourself. You are still young. You will get better.

  • The youngest female skaters at senior level, Mirai and Caroline Zhang have both problems of underotation in jumps.

  • I feel terrible for Mirai but I'm confident that she can fix her underrotation problems with more practice and help from Carroll who she seems to already have a great relationship with. Their exchange in the K&C was priceless.

  • thats a really tough performance and I feel for her as she is a lovely skater. Her speed has vastly improved and she covers a lot more ice which is a positive for her but I really think that this quarter turn thing on the jumps are just really too subjective and should change to 1/3.

I think this is the way the judges use the system to keep skaters down in the pecking order until they are ready to give them better scores. Almost a way of "paying ones dues" as the saying goes.

  • I can't stop but think at the marks Sarah Hughes would have got for her more underrotated jumps LOL

  • Poor Mirai, she seems to have gone back to her old jump technique for this program. And it seems like the pressure caused her to be a bit unsteady.
