  • Awesome pottery! How long have you been practicing Earth skills? I'm researching aboriginal clay pottery, and everyone I know seems to believe that allowing flame to touch your clay pot while cooking will result in the pot breaking. That hasn't been my experience. Any thoughts on that?

  • @MrCrunchybizzle

this was my first clay pots, i cook with my pots over/ in the fire, a few times, and they did not break,

    fredde

  • Very good video. Love primitive pottery, and yours looks just superb.

    Thanks for showing.

  • This is so cool! How did you manage to get the pots watertight?

  • Oh and you are great by the way. Some best vids I've seen on this sort of thing.

  • I tried this but my "clay" disintegrated. was my fire too hot? or did I not have real clay?

  • outstanding !! your pottery looks like art work. beautiful work.

One question.. Did you use any type of temper mixed with the clay to prevent cracking? thanks

    ben

  • Any tips on where to digg for clay? Outside I guess but I'm lazy...

  • @T3hJones

hheehe,, sorry, if you are lazy i cant help

    fredde

  • wow

  • this is great. he's got right clay at good enough depth from the soil. I do not know the clay's cosistency but He did everything right. I'll give this guys a 10 out of 10 point. Great job! Well done.

  • Love it! Thanks for your video. I learned a lot. You seem a mellow guy which helps a lot.

  • I would be curious to know--were all of your attempts with the pots successful? Your video was great. Just wish you could add some commentary on the pot making or just your thoughts on how you think it went? It looks like you put a lot of work into the pots and they look good.

  • Wow! Very good work you've done. Is it simply loamy soil? Best regards, Benedikt

  • Great Job!!!!

  • Is The Peace Pipe Bowl made out of Clay.

  • Wow you are on skilled guy!!!!! Awesome!

  • 5 stars for making this look like it's second nature to you!

  • hey it really works, im working on my second peace, i just dug down about 2 feet and took out anything bigger than sand with my hands, i crumbled it up and you can feel the rocks, throw out the pebbles, then formed it, then dried it, then fired it, then washed it. i have an awesome ashtray. thanks for the video

  • Did you mix anything with your clay before you formed your pots. How long did you fire your pots outside and in the fire. Great video thanks for the info.

  • moss nice

  • Wow. Excellent.

  • freddy your the best dude hands down

  • I wish you would talk us through the process. That looks awesome man. Thanks for the vid!

  • @hornetpalooza

    i show all steps

    fredde

  • @hobbexp Yeah, thanks Fredde! Some of the thicker city boys (like me) need a little bit of narration, hehe.

  • Very cool video.

  • Awesome pots! like how you showed everything in sequence as well. Cheers from Canada. love your stuff.

  • how long did you fire it for?

  • Ever thought of burnishing the inside of the pots to keep them from absorbing moisture? It would only take about and extra 5 minutes. I believe that this is how pots were waterproofed before the advent of glazes.

  • @Bokujin what do you burnish the pot with?

  • @astrialkil

You can burnish ceramics with anything smooth like the back of a spoon or even a polished piece of rock like the kind they sell for fish tanks. Hope this helps.

  • Excellent job! 5*****!

  • splendid craftsmanship

    thanks

  • wow! great pots and peace pipe man! :D what kind of moss did you use to smoke?

  • wooow 50 stars,, not bad :0)

  • these pots look immaculate

i too know where to find natural clay, maybe i shud give it a try myself

the thing wud break in my fire probably

  • I've watched your videos a dozen times each and still enjoy seeing them again. I particularly enjoy the fact that you don't use expensive toys to work with but instead keep it simple and basic (a Mora knife, for example), and you show that one doesn't need to spend a lot of money to enjoy bushcrafting. If fact, that should be one of the main points of this field: The more you can make yourself, do yourself, accomplish yourself, then the better your skills and ultimately enjoyment. Great work.

  • Absolutely brilliant - you didn't provide as much of a "tutorial" as Seanmullhull (Silverfox Bushcraft), but you are by far the the superior craftsman.

Your skills enabled you to make not one, but multiple pots - and a nifty peace pipe. Well done.

  • thanks, "tutorial"

i think i show in detail what did,

    clay ,sand , fire= clay pot :0)

  • I have to ask when you did the pipe ...you molded it in with the wood ....you put that piece in the fire and of course the wood burnt out of it right ....5/5 good work

  • Great Video Fredde, one of the best instructional videos Ive seen in a while!

What did you mix into the clay about 2:05?

sand? Did you use any sort of glaze on the pots?

    Thanks

  • Great stuff as usual, hobbe. 5/5

  • Great job! I'm subscribing. Maybe you should try making a flute or some sort of primitive instrument, that would be cool.

  • very good, amazing video :) thaank you man!

  • Fredde, I'm absolutely amazed... This is definitely one of your best videos ever, and probaly even one of the best bushcraft videos out there on youtube. Your pots were just incredible, and the pipe you made was just as amazing!

Only watch out with smoking moss, you can get addicted to it, hahaha!

  • thanks ,, moss taste ok, hehehe,,

    super najs pipa mannen.

  • Please more vids best vids on the web.. Really great job man

  • i'm impressed 6/5 ;-)

  • Great job fredde! they turned out perfectly.

    5/5

  • WOAH! Nice work Fredde. i gave you five stars.. but if i could give you like 5000000 stars i totally would!

  • thanks

  • great work Fredde! Looks like you became a master at pottery! Wonderful looking stuff, The Peace Pipe was also amazing. Although I will send you tobacco next time! Smoking moss.... Nasty! LMAO

  • Snyggt jobbat Fredde!!

  • Great job Fredde....very impressive....thanks for sharing....appreciate it.... 10/10

  • great vid fredde i have an axe just like that

  • its a great axe

  • Are u kidding me? Fredde must have been brought up by wolves. This is one of the best demos of true bushcraft skills. He used knowledge from so many different areas. Fredde absolutely fantastic. Done also with minimal gear. I loved it. Forget Canterbury, Stroud and Grylls, Fredde needs to be on Discovery!

  • thanks,

  • we have soon a guy on Discovery from youtube,

  • awsome 5/5

  • And we have a Winner !!

  • If i had your skills, i would definitely make a UDU!

  • good video 5* I think Id prefer rabbit tobacco

  • i have no idea, i dont smoke, :0)

  • More like 10/10 we were having with drawls fredde waiting on new videos from you. another great show of your skills. Now will the soot eventually work it's way out of the clay so the water runs clear.

  • You had a pottery class huh?

    That was perfecto.

  • Great job there moss smoker. Did you have any break? This didn't sound too fun when skogniv presented the challange but I was wrong. 5/5

  • break from what ?

  • Some tend to break while firing from inclusions or air bubles and such. Have you done this before?

  • heheh, i think you ask if i have a break,

yes some get small craks in the surface, it is like that when do stuff in the bush in rain and shit,

  • excellent craftmanship !!

  • Great job, you did good!!!!!!

  • outstanding. I bet, that if you were lost in the woods, you'd come out 5 lbs more than when you went in. great job. we have red clay here in Kentucky, will it work as well as that you used?

  • thanks, clay is clay, but some is better, that one i use really not that good,

    give it a try,

  • Lots of Indians used red clay here in the states. Certain white clays are fired at higher temps and are more resilliant than red. Most ceramics are made of white/gray clay.

Frankhoma Pottery is a commercial large scale pottery that still mines and uses local Okla red clay.

  • Nice Vid man what was you useing to make the cordage and was you makin 2 or 3 ply

  • where are you at the time of this video? thank you.

  • Amazing stuff.

  • AND THE WINNER IS ..................FREDDE cant see this being beaten......how about a new one with a spout and a lid. 25 stars

  • LOL....smoking Moss.

Ok...i'll give you 5* for that

  • great job man! :D

  • Looks like Fredde won the competition haha. Unless someone at the last minute can beat that. Outstanding work my friend. I have far to go to match your skills. My first pot fell to pieces. 100/5

  • thanks, i really did my best with the pots, i make the pipe really fast so the video gonna have a little fun ending,

  • Hi Fredde. Where are the pots now.....You have them at home or return them to the earth?

  • my wife put flower in some :0)

  • keep blazin' the moss

    nicely edited vid

  • In England you'd be shot if you started a fire in a wood!

  • why?

  • Not literally shot. But it is very hard to find somewhere where you can build a fire in a wood. You have to get written permission from the landowners. And even harder to get permission to cut branches etc.

  • we have rules about stoff like that to,

  • you aren't going to the right places
