  • wow! Those octave glissandi in the horns are amazing. And exquisite first horn moment at the end of the big moment. Not to mention silky strings. This is amazing artistic playing. I had no idea the Cincinnati orchestra was so good.

  • The decending off key bit at 4:29 is so good! Don't know enough about Strauss to know if this is a common feature but I'm sure that it has caused the dropping of many a monocle in it's day!

  • Hmmn, under Cobos, the horn section was still full of Conn 8D's. I love it!

  • @Tigerwarhawk Haha, this is an old photo of the horn section of the New York Phil with Bernstein back in the day. I'm pretty sure nowadays no orchestra has a full section of 8D's. :(

  • @lstrumpet2052 I'm aware of the photo, thanks. But this recording is the CSO under Cobos. With that said, the Cleveland Orchestra is an all 8D section, and the Seattle Symphony is too. Cerminaro plays a hybrid instrument of some sort all the others play Conns. In Cleveland, they've all switched from the old 8Ds to the new vintage 8Ds.
