@GerDrSeltsam Its a good tactic to use the enemy's weapon so that the ammo is more readily available. When you're out, take a 7.62x39mm magazine from anywhere and load it into your AK47. You can't do that with an M16 or M4 carbine or AK74 as they fire different calibers.

@GerDrSeltsam I think you mean Special Forces use this tactic more than regular soldiers right? Yes, Green Berets, SEALs, Delta Force and others are trained to operate enemy weapons. A Green Beret operative once recounted: "All my time in Africa, I would run into .303 British weapons, Sterling 9x19mm submachine guns, the M1 Garand and M14 battle rifles. Everyone knows how to use an AK47, being the most popular weapon in the world."

Well, it isn't at random. The soldiers are judged at ranges as to what weapon they shoot best and then they are given the responsibility of being say a rifleman or a grenadier or machine gunner.

Yes and no. You can ask but you get what they assign to you There's a good chance the weapon you start your deployment with isn't the one you finish. I went with an m4 issued to me and ended up with m249 and 9mm. Although I asked for the m249 :)

A shotgun is a quick way to open a locked door, because the shot looses velocity after it has struck the object quickly, it is a better choice than to use a rifle round, as it can ricochet. Shotties arent used for room clearing though, rifles are because you want to know where your rounds are going...

you don't use shot for opening a door, it ricochets too. thats why they use breaching rounds that are filled with powdered metal. because you are firing at the door from point blank the powder still retains enough kinetic energy to blow the lock apart.
