OMG! My worst nightmare for my own child! I'm so sorry that he had to endure this incompetence. And our medical industry is BROKEN in all aspects. My mother was given Haldol also at the end stages of emphysema and NEVER recovered full mental capacity, although fully cognizent before the hopital stay. I'm so sorry. Advocate on Lion Mama!
@LuvRK9s I'm so sorry about your mom. Hadol sucks. A few people do benefit from it, but it cause more harm than good. Cogentin will usually bring person out of this, as it did my son. Thank GOd I knew the antidote or the stupid nurses would've let him remain in this state for God only knows how long, suffering in silence. Also, the herb bacopa monneri will help recharge the brain after it's assaulted with haldol or excessive benzopdiazepines.
the World needs more people like you congrats on fighting for your son, if i were there and if i were friends with Jamey i would go off on them for causing that and i probably would sue them for Negligence, if you do end up suing these idiots use these vids as evidence and wake then up to severe Autism
That poor young man those nurses weren't very bright at all, it takes no special training to see he was in obvious severe distress. Pathetic of them all, shame on them.
And worse the medical profession probably is responsible for his autism from vaccines.
I've been reading about success reversing autism naturally with diet, supplements and detoxing. I'd love to see that beautiful human being get well.
They have give me Haldol and other neuroleptics and I've had a similiar reaction many times because of there disbelief that it effects me in that way. I had this feeling like i wanted to jump out of my own skin(extreme anxiety and no reason for the anxiety) which in turn makes you more anxious and on top that you get these intense urges to stretch or torque your body, the muscles in my back seized and felt like an intense muscle spasm/cramp. I got the same "with benadryl it would be ok" NOT
Keep being the amazing advocate you are. My nephew lives with me and he's autistic , non-verbal and blind (no eyes). Autism is still very misunderstood I had someone recently ask what special talent Alex has. The guy thought autism meant savant. I have had problems with "medical professionals" several times and try to educate when I can and to report when I can't. Good luck and I hope Jamey is well.
@Vikings2Spam Thank you and God bless you in everything you do with your nephew. And yes it's so frustrating when people ask what special talents are there, as if they only see high-functioning autism in their mind. Wow! That was sickening. I'm a one on one teacher who works with a Severely autistic child, who I love to death, It hurts my heart to see this neglect.
my partner dispenses medication on a daily basis and the training for all medication is to identify any side effects and if she neglected her patients she would be fired from her job never to work in care again this is classed as abuse to a vulnerable adult period and you my dear should have phoned the police straight away and pressed charges and kept the video rolling

I will continue to pray for you, your son and your whole family!!! You are the BEST!!!! Much Love from an extended family from Detroit, Mi.....
I am truly sorry this happened to your son, Autism is still a condition that has so many different levels that it can be hard to understand. I am defended the healthcare providers, there were defiantly negligent and something should be done about the hospital and/or those who were in the immediate care of your son. I hope something was done to further educate the.
Unfortunately this isn't just an issue for severe autism. I have (mild-moderate) autism and I've lived in institutions and been in and out of the psychiatric wards for years and I've had a lot of problems of being controlled with medication and not being able to communicate it and when my mom pointed it out I tried to tell the doctors but a lot of psychiatrists don't listen because they think I couldn't possibly know what's best for myself. Even worse, they even ignored my mom too.
haldol does suck... you are right, my son has the same reaction, if given too much... poor guy, my heart goes out to you guys, he needs a special hospital for severe autistic guys...
is there a way to email you or message you on here? my brother is displaying similar symptoms and so far you're the absolute best reference i found so far
A lot of sentiments echoed, I am surprised about the level of unsupervised care especially after administering neuroleptic. The intervention process that was later explained by the mother must have gone unnoticed in the medical notes because I will expect it to be the initial fundamental application of care plan before considering other method of care. It is easy to blame the professionals under this circumstances unfortunately they are have contributed in totality to their own poor judgement.
Just this week, I told the ER doc NO HALDOL, NO RHISPERDAL, and she almost managed to slide me a Haldol! That's abusive, that drug has bad effects on me and she wanted to use it anyway. Where can I get better treatment?
You should be an RN... This is just pure laziness and not caring for autistic people, especially RNs. Wow, they should definetely be fired and if I noticed that that was not right, how come they couldn't? I'm not even a nurse!!!
I had a dystonic reaction to Compazine. It hurt and the only way they got rid of it was they pumped my veins with Benadryl. Instantly worked. I do remember the pain in my neck. And I could barely speak because my mouth was insanely dry. I hope for the best for you and your family. I take Haldol and when I was like this, my psychiatrist prescribed Cogentin. May wanna ask about that if this happens again. Cogentin prevents reactions like that. I hope he's okay. I'm rooting for him!!! <3
I so sorry this crap happened to your son. This crap pisses me off. Btw, you're my hero for the way you fight for your son -3 finally, i hope this doesn't sound weird, because it's not my intent, but your son is beautiful-a really handsome boy. I know he has autism, but of course he's still a person, and i hope you dont take offense to me saying he's handsome :) it says at the end he was transferred to Kaiser... Has Kaiser been better?
This made me so angry. Those nurses are completely IGNORANT to this child's needs and are more concerned with protecting their own asses. "I thought that's just the way autistics act". Makes me sick.
Wow this would piss me off so bad...Autism or not you can tell that's not normal. I've seen people on haldol when I was in the psych. hospital and it's nasty stuff....The poor guy. Those scumbags have some nerve giving him that crap when he's allergic. Some Doctors they are. You are an amazing parent and he is so lucky to have you as a Mom...You handled the situation very well...better than I would have.
this video caused me soooo much pain just watching it, what a great and amazing mother! the hospital staff needs a kick in here ass, i go through bullshit when i take my 14 yr old severely autistic son to ER and dr's are sooo clueless of what to do and how to react besides drugging him and restraints! love u all
Wow this makes me so mad! How can the nurses just be like, "Oh he isn't like this at home"? Really? I mean he's autistic not completely paralyzed! The lack of knowledge from the medical staff in this situation makes me sick, wake up people and learn what you need to do! This is your job!
I had a reaction like this after taking one dose of Geodon for the first time. It started out with me not being able to keep my tounge in my mouth. Then my neck was back and my eyes were rolled up. If I tried to move, I could a little, but after a second I couldn't hold on anymore, and reverted to the same position. I remember laying in the ER and I could feel my neck muscles pushing my head back farther and farther. It HURT!! They gave me benadryl and cogentin to fix it.
So is there a lawsuit? If haldol was really on his allergy list, there should definitely be a lawsuit . By the way, Ive been a nurse for 5 years and I have never once had a patient with autism. We don't know everything about every single disease and condition out there. What I do know about autism is that it is a "spectrum" disorder and different people can have vastly different symptoms. We rely heavily on family to inform us of the patients baseline.
@averydarcangel I inform nurses, doctors everytime my son has gone to hospital. If they don't implement what I tell them works, then what else can a parent do? I tell them and they ignore the advice and instruction. Not always, but too many times. Sometimes he's had a great nurse, cna or doctor who really goes out of their way to understand and help. Those are the individuals that give us hope.
@averydarcangel I absolutely guarantee that if you have been a nurse for 5 years and have dealt with a variety of patients, some of them HAVE been autistic; you may not have known it, and it may not have been what they were seeing you for, but they were autistic, and it would help if you learned how to recognize that and how to behave toward it.
wow, that makes me sick! I work with autistic adults in thier own home. Is there anyway you can put him in something like that? I am so sorry you and your son has had to endure this!
Hi I have be following your vids on Jamie for awhile and EVEN I KNOW enough about him to see he wasn't acting right. Question though just because I have been following this for awhile.....why was he in the hospital in the first place? Was he sick?
@KSitz77 Depakote (drug he took for seizures) caused hyperammonia, which led to a severe crazy self injurious meltdown, which landed him in hospital, where they shot him up with HALDOL and failed to monitor him for side effects, despite his medical records saying he's allergic to haldol.
This is sad the same thing happened to me on a field trip last year cuz my doc gave me some medicine i was allergic to and wen we got off the bus i just had my neck locked and i panicked and it got even worse at the hospital just like this guy and i could hear everything and see but not being able to speak or talk...it was extremely painful too and wen i was in the middle of my worst attack the doc and nurse just gave me a huge dose of benadryl and it just immediately made me better.......
Same thing happened to me too when I was in the psych hospital . I was locked up too I felt like a chair, had resistance in my arms, neck and legs. Cogenten will reverse the side effects of Haldol I felt much better, I wasn't a chair any more
awwwww.... when i saw his tears it made me start to cry ... almost like he was screaming help me through his eyes .... it makes me angry to think that the dr's didnt notice he was in distress ... it dont take a rocket scientist to figure out something is wrong ......... i hope you feel better jamey! your an amazing young man! ... and your an awesome mom !
I am disgusted by the medical staff at the hospital. How dare they not recognize an adverse reaction! I personally have not met Jamey but have seen enough of your videos to know that something was wrong with him once I saw the video.
Hun you sounded put together and more educated than the medical staff.
I hope Jamey is feeling better and I hope your feeling a bit better. This would have broken me inside as well. Stay strong.
The staff should've have known that he is allergic to Haldol, yes it was on there but the staff can be held liable if something bad had happened to him, worse left him in critical care. Is it just me or doctors today don't know what they're doing?
If you weren't there, they would have probably just left him like that. It is said that nurses are overworked, too. Why was he in the hospital in the first place? What was the halidol doing for him, or more accurately, what were the staff THINKING it would do? Lord have Mercy.... :(
The sad part is that I'm an 18 year old college student who feels that even I could take better care of this beautiful young man then these nurses. This is an outrage, nobody should be treated like this especially someone in need of great care. I hope he finds better care in the future.
I have the same reaction to haldol. It is unbelievably painful. All of your muscles cramp. Walking feels like your walking on sharp rocks. Don't ask why I was on it ;b
Im still watching this and if i were to count the number of excuises they gave to you, i'd run out of fingers and toes to count on! Wow, im so impressed by your end -- the way you handled it, words cant describe how loving you are.
His neck must have been sore for weeks after that, its really upsetting to see this because ignoring signs and symptoms of someone who needs help is a form of neglect and cruelty.
This is an outrage. Never trust any loved one alone in a hospital. My mother was neglected in a hospital by the nurses and had a stroke in front of my face and my brothers when we got there. I had to scream for a doctor to come in and take her to the ICU. She died a week later from pressure sores getting infected from not being turned. Be Aware
@kidcapri009 Just know that is a CRIME to neglect a fragile adult in a hosptial setting. Just because these people are wearing white coats and have an RN license, does NOT mean they have the right to neglect people under their care.
You are so on task, Mom, I hope James is doing fine. It's sad the nurses and administrators look to 'quiet' or 'keep still' their patients. In my view, these type of medications are administered so that staff can have an easier shift... I hope this is not the case in most cases. OMG. It is so sad what these places accept as okay. God be with all those in situations requiring care other than loving, professional home care.
More evidence suggests many autistics with self injurious behavior use the behavior in hyperaroused stages, so they could benefit from things like Tenex (Guanafacine) or Propopronol, both deal with dysregulation of adrenergic functioning, thus calming the mind and body in sympathetic hyperarousal stages of life that trigger self injurious behavior. Guanfacine also has benefit of elevating pre frontal cortex regulation, thus allowing person to compose self and control impulsive SIB behavioers
Haldol is probably the worst, and most dangerous mind-bending anti-psychotic out there. Lsat time I checked, the drug is absolutely ILLEGAL to even handle without a prescription.
@MIKON8ERISBACK Hospital rountinely give Haldo injections to autistics who display self injurios behaviors in acute situatons, but trouble is, most the autistics don't respond to drugs that only target certain dopamine receptors. The most effective treatments combine NATURAL treatments (to protect mind body and soul) with conventional pharmaceutical treatments like risperdoal, zyprexa, geodon or seroqul. That said, it's not a cure, but a way to get person to calm down and stop harming self.
That's so sad. They probably were afraid to say they were sorry though, because of potential lawsuits. I had a similar hospital experience. I wish someone had a camera on me. The hospital is still afraid to release my medical records, even when other doctors request them.
@MRK40 The hospital is Palomar Medical Center, and they still, to this day, have failed to call me back regarding how we could, in the future, avoid such another foul up, inside their hospital. I have no respect for professionals who hide. It's just so unprofessional and shows a reckless disregard for patient care and safety. These types just hope time will tick on and things will go away. Cowards.
WOW!!!! DISTURBING IS NOT EVEN THE WORD!!! GREAT JOB MOM!! You are a better nurse/doctor/specialist to your son than the 'trained" staff.. KUDOS for helping your son and keeping him ALIVE!!! You are AMAZING!!! I love how you told that nurse to check for this and check for that.. She seemed so baffled and didn't know what to say!! GREAT JOB!! AAAA++++++ Keep it up Mom, you may just get the hospitals, charity awareness groups, and the government to wake up and recognize these severe cases
I had to pause this after a couple minutes because I was bawling. I can't even imagine how you must of felt as his mother. You were SO patient with the CNAs and kept a clear head about what needed to be done-you are amazing. I think most people agree that we live in an overly litigious society but if I EVER saw a reason for a lawsuit this is it! How on earth could they go ahead and administer the Haldol knowing he's allergic (even w/the benadryl) and not monitor him constantly!? This is unreal.
@CDFoakley ...popping in to see how you guys are doing. This is heart rendering! I'm positive that the Risperadol that was given to April 4 years ago caused her self-injurious behaviour, she mostly only bit herself and occasionally head banged floor till then. The few months after anti-psycotics she began the violent punching. A documentary was done in the UK called 'Dealth by Indifference'. Which investigated why disabled young people died in hospital the wrong treatment.
@CDFoakley I hated it when they played "dumb"..or just plain LIED to cover their butts...I have zero respect for professionals who neglect autistic persons or any person with special needs and just brush it off as "they didn't know how they act." Well, take a damn LOOK at the patient and LEARN. Read their chart. ASK others on previous shift how they presented. DUH
@CDFoakley Oh, and I also caught on tape, them leaving my son in restraints and NOT checking how tight they were. And they lied about that too. No wonder they didn't want me taping.
Please tell me that there is a lawsuit here! I'm incredibly angry watching this. I can't even think of the words to properly describe how livid I am about this. Jamey should have never been treated like this and the ignorance of these doctors is shocking. You'd think that they would have some sort of basic training for patients with severe Autism...it's just shocking. And heartbreakingly traumatic for Jamey's sake. I hope he's on the mend now. :)
You guys need to move and get Jamie out of that state. From what I've seen of your videos thus far I think I would trust a veterinarian before I took him to the hospital there.
Wow! Mom, I think you should give yourself a (big) pat on the back and be so proud of yourself for how you handled this situation....You know sooo much about your sons' condition. You knew more then the nurses did!!!!
@chrissylee31 Of coarse she knew more than the nurses did! She has a son with autism...do you think nurse know everything about every single disease, condition, illness? Ive been a nurse for 5 years and I have NEVER had one patient with autism...why would I have the knowledge about autism that a mother of an autistic child does
@RoarNworship Keppra is great for myoclonic type seizures, and isn't as hard on liver as most other AED's (anti eleptic drugs). SO, yes, Keppra can be great for some people. It's also used for tonic clonics, but some people say it increased tonic clonic. AWGGGG. it's all so complex. It's best to have video EEG done to see what type of seizures person has so drugs could then be targeted to TREAT those types of seizures. For instance, if diagnosed with atonic, you'd want depakote, not keppra.
@Shoes454 Haldol is a chemical restraint, often used by healthcare, or caregiving professionals to "quiet" and "calm" mentally ill persons. Jamey isn't mentally ill. He's autistic. Not psychotic. He's extremely smart inside. He can't talk. He can't process sensory information around him. In short, his autistic brain/thinking doesn't respond same way mentally-ill people may respond to haldol. Haldol is also a Phenylbutylpiperadine derivative. Jamey's body reacts badly to this type of drug.
@Shoes454 Haldol has many adverse effects. Haldol is much more risky then it's more benign counterparts. Anti-psychotics are also used to treat anxiety, in very, very small doses, but Haldol is very, very hardcore and mind-bending.
Poor Jamey ): I hope he gets better, was it a severe SIB that got him to hospital in the first place?? It's ridiculous how bad the medical institute have gotten now, it's the same here in England.
@claire123claire Hyperammonia caused by depakote (his seizure med) triggered this latest extreme SIB meltdown, which lasted days. It was total nightmare. We didn't know he had hyperammonia until brought him to ER room, they did blood test. Then, as if not enough to torment his fragile state, it was also discovered he had staph infection (from biting self)! He must've been out of his mind with frustration (since he can't talk). Then, to have Haldol adverse reaction, Dear God, it's just crazy.

I am truly sorry this happened to your son, Autism is still a condition that has so many different levels that it can be hard to understand. I am defended the healthcare providers, there were defiantly negligent and something should be done about the hospital and/or those who were in the immediate care of your son. I hope something was done to further educate the.
Kariray86 4 months ago

Has Kaiser been better?

alexautism96 6 months ago

@Eternity29 Thanks for valuable insight from someone who can share with us all what this feels like.

We rely heavily on family to inform us of the patients baseline.
averydarcangel 8 months ago
@averydarcangel I inform nurses, doctors everytime my son has gone to hospital. If they don't implement what I tell them works, then what else can a parent do? I tell them and they ignore the advice and instruction. Not always, but too many times. Sometimes he's had a great nurse, cna or doctor who really goes out of their way to understand and help. Those are the individuals that give us hope.
CDFoakley 7 months ago
@averydarcangel It's hard enough to afford basic care, much less a lawsuit you probably won't win.
TOBORtheMighty 6 months ago
@averydarcangel I absolutely guarantee that if you have been a nurse for 5 years and have dealt with a variety of patients, some of them HAVE been autistic; you may not have known it, and it may not have been what they were seeing you for, but they were autistic, and it would help if you learned how to recognize that and how to behave toward it.

Hi I have be following your vids on Jamie for awhile and EVEN I KNOW enough about him to see he wasn't acting right. Question though just because I have been following this for awhile.....why was he in the hospital in the first place? Was he sick?
KSitz77 8 months ago
@KSitz77 Depakote (drug he took for seizures) caused hyperammonia, which led to a severe crazy self injurious meltdown, which landed him in hospital, where they shot him up with HALDOL and failed to monitor him for side effects, despite his medical records saying he's allergic to haldol.

I hope Jamey is feeling better and I hope your feeling a bit better. This would have broken me inside as well. Stay strong.

The staff should've have known that he is allergic to Haldol, yes it was on there but the staff can be held liable if something bad had happened to him, worse left him in critical care. Is it just me or doctors today don't know what they're doing?
lisababy4lyfe 10 months ago
If you weren't there, they would have probably just left him like that. It is said that nurses are overworked, too. Why was he in the hospital in the first place? What was the halidol doing for him, or more accurately, what were the staff THINKING it would do? Lord have Mercy.... :(

nicolajulianna 11 months ago
His neck must have been sore for weeks after that, its really upsetting to see this because ignoring signs and symptoms of someone who needs help is a form of neglect and cruelty.
nicolajulianna 11 months ago
This is an outrage. Never trust any loved one alone in a hospital. My mother was neglected in a hospital by the nurses and had a stroke in front of my face and my brothers when we got there. I had to scream for a doctor to come in and take her to the ICU. She died a week later from pressure sores getting infected from not being turned. Be Aware
kidcapri009 11 months ago
@kidcapri009 Just know that is a CRIME to neglect a fragile adult in a hosptial setting. Just because these people are wearing white coats and have an RN license, does NOT mean they have the right to neglect people under their care.
CDFoakley 11 months ago
You are so on task, Mom, I hope James is doing fine. It's sad the nurses and administrators look to 'quiet' or 'keep still' their patients. In my view, these type of medications are administered so that staff can have an easier shift... I hope this is not the case in most cases. OMG. It is so sad what these places accept as okay. God be with all those in situations requiring care other than loving, professional home care.
marcimello 11 months ago

MIKON8ERISBACK 11 months ago
@MIKON8ERISBACK Hospital rountinely give Haldo injections to autistics who display self injurios behaviors in acute situatons, but trouble is, most the autistics don't respond to drugs that only target certain dopamine receptors. The most effective treatments combine NATURAL treatments (to protect mind body and soul) with conventional pharmaceutical treatments like risperdoal, zyprexa, geodon or seroqul. That said, it's not a cure, but a way to get person to calm down and stop harming self.
CDFoakley 11 months ago
That's so sad. They probably were afraid to say they were sorry though, because of potential lawsuits. I had a similar hospital experience. I wish someone had a camera on me. The hospital is still afraid to release my medical records, even when other doctors request them.
MRK40 11 months ago
@MRK40 The hospital is Palomar Medical Center, and they still, to this day, have failed to call me back regarding how we could, in the future, avoid such another foul up, inside their hospital. I have no respect for professionals who hide. It's just so unprofessional and shows a reckless disregard for patient care and safety. These types just hope time will tick on and things will go away. Cowards.

This is unreal.

sammbah 1 year ago
@CDFoakley ...popping in to see how you guys are doing. This is heart rendering! I'm positive that the Risperadol that was given to April 4 years ago caused her self-injurious behaviour, she mostly only bit herself and occasionally head banged floor till then. The few months after anti-psycotics she began the violent punching. A documentary was done in the UK called 'Dealth by Indifference'. Which investigated why disabled young people died in hospital the wrong treatment.
sammbah 1 year ago
@CDFoakley I hated it when they played "dumb"..or just plain LIED to cover their butts...I have zero respect for professionals who neglect autistic persons or any person with special needs and just brush it off as "they didn't know how they act." Well, take a damn LOOK at the patient and LEARN. Read their chart. ASK others on previous shift how they presented. DUH
CDFoakley 1 year ago
@CDFoakley Oh, and I also caught on tape, them leaving my son in restraints and NOT checking how tight they were. And they lied about that too. No wonder they didn't want me taping.

Please tell me that there is a lawsuit here! I'm incredibly angry watching this. I can't even think of the words to properly describe how livid I am about this. Jamey should have never been treated like this and the ignorance of these doctors is shocking. Is Keppra a good drug to take for seizures?
RoarNworship 1 year ago
@RoarNworship Keppra is great for myoclonic type seizures, and isn't as hard on liver as most other AED's (anti eleptic drugs). SO, yes, Keppra can be great for some people. It's also used for tonic clonics, but some people say it increased tonic clonic. AWGGGG. it's all so complex. It's best to have video EEG done to see what type of seizures person has so drugs could then be targeted to TREAT those types of seizures. For instance, if diagnosed with atonic, you'd want depakote, not keppra.
CDFoakley 1 year ago
Why is he allgeric to hadol?
Shoes454 1 year ago
@Shoes454 Haldol is a chemical restraint, often used by healthcare, or caregiving professionals to "quiet" and "calm" mentally ill persons. Jamey isn't mentally ill. He's autistic. Not psychotic. He's extremely smart inside. He can't talk. He can't process sensory information around him. In short, his autistic brain/thinking doesn't respond same way mentally-ill people may respond to haldol. Haldol is also a Phenylbutylpiperadine derivative. Jamey's body reacts badly to this type of drug.
CDFoakley 1 year ago
@Shoes454 Haldol has many adverse effects. Haldol is much more risky then it's more benign counterparts. Anti-psychotics are also used to treat anxiety, in very, very small doses, but Haldol is very, very hardcore and mind-bending.

Poor Jamey ): I hope he gets better, was it a severe SIB that got him to hospital in the first place?? It's ridiculous how bad the medical institute have gotten now, it's the same here in England.
claire123claire 1 year ago
@claire123claire Hyperammonia caused by depakote (his seizure med) triggered this latest extreme SIB meltdown, which lasted days. It was total nightmare. We didn't know he had hyperammonia until brought him to ER room, they did blood test. Then, as if not enough to torment his fragile state, it was also discovered he had staph infection (from biting self)! He must've been out of his mind with frustration (since he can't talk). Then, to have Haldol adverse reaction, Dear God, it's just crazy.
