a new style of martial arts has evolved; new weapons have been created. The basic footwork of this style is similar to ma bu (horse stance). the main hand technique is through the use of jabbing fingers. do you know what this is? it's the keyboard style. you sit on your chair and stab at your keyboard. killing the spirit, confidence and love for traditional martial arts. keyboard warriors. bravo.
As sparring session is different than an actual fight. In actual fights generally 3-4 blows will be thrown by one person 2-3 usually will land and if the recipient isn't injured he will respond with his own. On the street one fighter won't let the other regain his composure. It's not about points.
Not really a valid display... The Xing Yi Quan person knows what he is doing, but the western combat chap doesn't seem to be doing counter punches, breaking tempo, grappling, side stepping, bobbing, weaving or anything at all... Even his guard is not covering his chin. Granted people do use an open guard for flexibility, but he doesn't seem to be using any of that.
I believe Chinese KongFu is from war like other said. that's a way to kill , not show. but after human develop hot weapon. it's no useful in most environment. who can defense the gun's attack even a professional master. also people are not interesting in it. and then the traditional culture lost.. the older master dead. we only keep KongFu show now
for al the people who dont understand real fights, and blindly beleave mma is the god of all fighting. this is light contact sparring, the guy is often striking to the opponents eyes, in a real fight you will not be able to do anything after youve had your eyes gouged out. also mma is a sport popularized by the gracies to promote jiu jitsu. so mma is all propaganda and stupid people beleive it because they cant think for themselfs
To be fair the UFC was born out of two things, the idea of a minimum rules competition and style vs style combat (oh, and money), modern MMA appeared as a result of two things, Bruce Lee and UFC (Im over simplifing but there is a letter limit on youtube). Just because the gracie's have massive egos and dominated the mid-to-early competions doesnt make MMA their creation. Its not the be all and end all of unarmed combat but it tries.
@Donkyfishy UFC has A LOT of rules lol. You can't hit from behind, you can't elbow, you can't knee below the waist, you can't hit the head when your opponent isn't facing you and etc...
Muay Thai is all go, just no hitting the balls. Ever wonder why the highly ranked Asian fighters can't get shot in UFC? because they're too used to fighting with no crotch rule only and of course UFC want to keep it profitable within their associates.
@SkemeKOS WOW! I don't have a clue,I've been doing JKD since 88 and Wing Chun since 75.If MMA is doing JKD then how come they keep their chins wide open and not only telegraph their tools but their Intentions as well, answer that my fellow JKD Man.JEET means to INTERCEPT not only the the tools but the Intent as well.Bruce Lee may have INSPIRED MMA but MMA is not JKD because it would adhere to the principle of JKD.
@SkemeKOS I don't see Bruce Lee getting in that setting trading blows with someone JKD is Intercepting and shutting the guy down on his Intention of moving.Something you don't see in UFC,The only person I see who can do that Is Franky Edgar with his fight with BJ Penn and how he set up his tools Now I believe he really trained JKD,He kept his guard together his footwork and PIA frustrated the hell out BJ Penn.
hey, I gave recogintion to its money earning motivation in my comment, I wasnt trying to imply they had especially/only noble aims. In UFC you CAN elbow, and knee below the waist; you can only NOT hit the back of the head, it doesnt matter where they are facing. Muay thai has more rules then no crotch shots, Im no expert but Im pretty sure they have rules regarding westling/prolonged contact, stikes to a grounded opponent as well as the usual no eye gouging & fish hooking.
Not to go on but I think its worth a mention that good Muay thai does very well in UFC, so much so that its considered a intergal part of the 'art'. What alot of people seem to forget is that MMA means mixed martial arts, at the begining, & I assume now still, any style or techinque is allowed as long as it doesnt break the rules. Bruce Lee was MMA, He studied multiple martial arts, intergrated & used them. Isnt a major JKD maxim: Use what ever works & only what works for you?
@Donkyfishy every1 talks about bruce lee like he was some super hero but hes not. he just became famous. and stil he did not do mma. yes he did practice multiple styles but mma albeit does stand for mixed martial arts is not just combining multiple arts. mma is a sport for fun, yes those guys are very talented and will have a major advantage to the average guy in a fight but its nothing like this. these guys these real martial artist could beat a pro mma fighter in a real fight no problem
He was super human for his time...and would still stand up to todays pro mma fighters if he added some BJJ and carried on his wrestling training etc etc.
No one could touch him back then, apart from grapplers, which was Bruce Lee's weakness.
But because Bruce was a realist, he recognized the importance of grappling and began training in wrestling, judo and judo etc to add those skills to his personal art.
He wouldve dominated any traditional martial artist with ease at his peak.

traditional kung fu is designed not to fight but to kill... i bet my money on kung fu if it was a no rules anything goes fight to the death... but if u just wanna fight for fun... then... maybe its not the best art for you to practice
Kung fu actually exist in China before Da Mo (Bodidharma) left India and came to China and stoped at Shaolin Temple. Da Mo taught the monks the exercises called Yi Jin JIng (muscle tendon stretch), a form of Qi Gong. Actually, these are the only form of kung fu taught from Bodidharma....
Bodhidharma contributed to the development of Chinese Martial Arts... There are thousands of family of Chinese Kung Fu, such as Wu Dan and many other style that had a heavy daoist influence and thus did not originate from Shao Lin and please explain what you mean by martial arts not recognized as martial arts
ACtually lxfbear, aznpwnsalot chinese martial arts was born from war.. it was first developped through weapons by generals. Soldiers were required to learn spear/saber and many other weapons routines in order to know how to kill and then the empty forms were created. As far as I know it was way before 500bc.. before Sun Tzu even wrote the art of war. but it got refined as time passed
Don't forget about scholars and daoists. Sword was traditionally a must for scholars until South Song era, and daoists simply developed their own system from ancient Chinese martial art, shaping them with daoism theory.
Both started before Shaolin even exists. And developed separatly from military. (but are used as a mean to practise "heart", as competition, and in real fights back then)
lawls that's a diffrent type of martial art xing yi quan and most of the quan are from the ideology of indian yoga.and once again shaolin temples's martial arts are from india. military didnt really develope any fighting styles at first. the military learned weaponary martial arts. which is Very far from hand to hand combat.. for one, they are 2 entirely diffrent ranges. and asides from that. daoist didnt develope before shaolin.. daoist martial art in fact developed from shaoling kung fu..
Acually Learning how to control energy and unlocking the gateways is what the Indians brought over to the shoalin temple, as well as yoga, there form of zen, Shaolin already knew and thought martial arts, they just put it all together, and over time the monks created there own forms. Such as Tong Zi Gong, which all monks practice ritually for flexability. its basic kung fu mixed with yoga type streching.
u need to read your history before making statements like this. It offends alot of people. Daoism existed long before shao-lin. Shao-lin is not Indian, it is what happened to Buddhism after being absorbed by the Chinese. Daoist martial arts is very different from shaoling kung fu... Shao-Lin Kung Fu is not from india, yes Bodhidharma did contribution to developement of Gong fu , M.A of china sought refuge in Shao-Lin temples and therefore contributed to the development of shao lin kung fu.
read your history? daoist existed before shaolin but daoist martial arts! did not exist before shaolin kung fu. for one do you understand why they say all of the kung fu essentially comes from shaolin?. because all of the martial arts you practice comes from shaolin. and shaolin learned martial arts because they were raided by thiefs/robbers around them every single day. so bodhidharma tought them india martial arts. which later developed in to shaolin martial art.
There's probably no country in the world where some kind of martial art hasn't existed since extremely ancient times. Quite obviously, China already had an ancient history of warfare long before Shaolin was established. They didn't just shout harsh words at each other.
That's really just conjecture - obviously, we don't know exactly what form of fighting or training the ancient soldiers of China used - we just know that there were soldiers, and that every organised army trains its soldiers in some form of combat. Point being, China obviously did have fighting techniques for hundreds of years before Shaolin. Were they recognisable as 'wushu' - who knows. Maybe that was the only real wushu - the real war arts, of real soldiers. It's all angels on pinheads, tho.
Mm, actually, it was recongnized as a war martiaal art but not the same as the ones shown above. the ones shown above were from shaolin or atleast branched out of shaolin. point being, they did not use martial arts that is actually racognized as a martial art. there fore it isnt one.
@lxfbear not suprising since pole arms, bows and arros were the assult rifles of the time and being caughtin battle wiht out one would be some epic fail. i think these guys would benefit from adding a bit of brucelee entry tactics and
Dear, i think u mess up with muslim, muslim is a name of russian fighter, find him on google. and this video is about CHINESE matrial arts, nothing to do with indian and yoga....
thats ur wierd theory...i haven't heard about it before. martial art in this video is from middle china, it has nothing to do with yoga at all. u better prove it better....
to be honest, i dont believe this. the buddha came to china long time before the thrive of chinese kungfu(in ming dynasty). even if most kungfus are derived form shaolin temple, i believe its a creation of chinese monk in the middle land rather than based on yoga. i cant see any system of yoga fighting and why there is no famous india martail arts?
um... buddha existed in the 500 bc or ad.. cant remeber which but that's when shaoling temple is actually built and if you search it up there are actually a type of martial art that involves a huge machete and a shield. it looks extremely similar to the one in the eastern part of china if you look at it closely enough. it consists of diffrent dodges rolling on the ground blocks and counters.
Chinese martial art started more than two thousand years before Buddism exists in China.
Shaolin's famouness was largely due to their monks helping the royal family of the dynasty of Tang in war, which got them very famous. After that, many people with no relationship to them claim their martial art are rooted from Shaolin. In reality, most Shaolin martial art are actually from local Chinese martial artist and martial art in armies in real life.
hahahaha You just killed any shed of creditbility with this statement you made...lmao Buddha was born 1000 years b4 shaolin temple was even built lol buddha was born in 400bc and never left india..shaolin was built in 464 AD a good thaosand yrs later...I think the monk ur "trying" to referr to was bohidharma...=P
lawls.. i said bodhidarma in all of the posts above, so what makes you think im not refering to him in the later posts? your sense of logic is way off.

"If MMA is doing JKD then how come they keep their chins wide open and not only telegraph their tools but their Intentions as well."
Youre generalizing MMA into being an actual single art or individual fighter.
ONCE AGAIN, MMA is NOT the UFC, an art itself or an individual fighter, it is just a WAY OF FIGHTING.
That way is by MIXING MARTIAL ARTS that work for the fighter.
Everyone who trains in MMA fights differently.
You seriously havent got a clue, my fellow JKD friend :(

That is EXACTLY what his JKD is - Take what is useful, disgard what is useless. Then make it your own.

It stands for "Mixed Martial Arts".
Time to get that into your thick skull.

They didn't just shout harsh words at each other.

what you use on a battlefield isnt what we now racongnize as a form of martial arts.
aznpwnsalot 2 years ago
That's really just conjecture - obviously, we don't know exactly what form of fighting or training the ancient soldiers of China used - we just know that there were soldiers, and that every organised army trains its soldiers in some form of combat. Point being, China obviously did have fighting techniques for hundreds of years before Shaolin. Were they recognisable as 'wushu' - who knows. Maybe that was the only real wushu - the real war arts, of real soldiers. It's all angels on pinheads, tho.

Mm, actually, it was recongnized as a war martiaal art but not the same as the ones shown above. the ones shown above were from shaolin or atleast branched out of shaolin. point being, they did not use martial arts that is actually racognized as a martial art. there fore it isnt one.

yoga was brought to china by buddha to the shaoling temple to defend the monks and eventualy became the kung fu we know today
aznpwnsalot 3 years ago
to be honest, i dont believe this. the buddha came to china long time before the thrive of chinese kungfu(in ming dynasty). even if most kungfus are derived form shaolin temple, i believe its a creation of chinese monk in the middle land rather than based on yoga. i cant see any system of yoga fighting and why there is no famous india martail arts?
lxfbear 3 years ago
um... buddha existed in the 500 bc or ad.. cant remeber which but that's when shaoling temple is actually built and if you search it up there are actually a type of martial art that involves a huge machete and a shield. it looks extremely similar to the one in the eastern part of china if you look at it closely enough. it consists of diffrent dodges rolling on the ground blocks and counters.
