I don't have to say anything but Pokerface 424242 posted a comment 6 months ago stands for me as well. Only difference is I don't go for any other singers for Elvis has always been and will always be my "boy" perhaps when I die and go to Heaven I will meet with him. He is assured eternity because he believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. He said he was not King but Jesus was.
W/E....if it wasn't for Parker....Elvis would have toured the world. Do you know the story about the 68 come back special? How Parker wanted it to be just Christmas songs? Wow....and that is why Blue Christmas is included? It is all very interesting.
This is one of my favorite Elvis songs. This song is truly in a class of its own! Elvis' singing style was already so unique, no one could compare, and here he's even more unique. He's so versatile - he can sing songs of any tempo. Compare this one with his ultra-soft and -slow "Love Me Tender".
No entertainer dead or alive can touch Elvis. He has everything, not just the incomparable voice and singing style: great looks, fantastic screen and stage appeal, etc.
Here is a fun fact a really few people know..As probably most of you know this song originally had different lyrics(one night of sin) which..at that time were thought to be offending and not suitable for radio airplay..Elvis wouldn´t give up on the song so he rewrote the lyrics himself..Never understood why he did not receive co writing credit for that..
When I hear this song, I also think of John Lennon doing 'Twist and Shout' on Please, Please Me...that hoarse-voiced passionate attitude just kills me with these two songs...the difference is that Elvis could modulate his voice between rough and sultry, whereas Lennon just belted it out....either way, they both make my heart beat faster!
this came after his mom passed. he was so devastated by her death some say this was his song to her. having been a young teen and listen to his music i believed.
Elvis never sold 1.5 Billion records. He recorded a live concert in 1973 from Hawaii which was viewed live by satillite by 1.5 Billion viewers. You can view the whole concert by youtube "elvis live from Hawaii" the first concert called the alternative concert is the best one .
@rigoberto565 WRONG ! Elvis' Total Worlwide Record Sales are at over 1.5 BILLION ! That's why the RIAA and the Billboard Music Association awarded Him '' Artist of the Century '' because Elvis has sold more Records Worldwide , More than any Other Recorded Voice in the History of Recorded Music! And that, Jack Is a Fact !
@MultiRushfan ; Hey Jerk ! Elvis deserves the praise and then some because He was the BEST, Then, Now , and for Always ! You're the Dumbass, Now go out and play in the traffic at High noon, JERK!
Elvis was the best not only because of his talent. He was a very kind and gentle man.he gave cars to fans.never forgot where he came from.he was generous to a fault.
Agree with Dragon and Munchkin Elvis was amazing and no one could ever top him EVER pity he died so young 45 yet he blessed the world with his songs.
On the other hand Cliff Richard was his fan and he is still around. What a loss to all the Elvis fans. Alec Subrayan email alecsubrayan@telkomsa.net I am 66 and was his fan from the age of 15 the first song I liked was Teddy Bear
@My7349 elvis was 42 when he died, not 45 ( yeah, very young) .wasnt cliff richard sorta the elvis of england? too bad elvis coudnt tour the world, becase the col. had warrants overseas....tommy
@tommieparch; WRONG !!! FYI, Colonel Thomas Parker never had any warrants overseas. He immigrated here to the USA as a very young man with NO legal passport from his native country or any Visa required for US entry ! That's the reason why he didn't go there, overseas or schedule any concerts for Elvis outside the US is because he, the Col. was a illegal immigrant without a proper legal passport!
@tommieparch NO, that's NOT what you said ! When one breaks a law or laws, a Grand Jury does a indictment and a Judge isses a Warrant for that person's arrest. Colonel Parker did not break any laws overseas in his native country! He immigrated here to the USA without the proper Visa or required paperwork, much like thousands of the immigrants across the border in Mexico and other South American countries do every year now,
@MsLovegeorge would love one night with my hubby as he used to be before the horrid illness alzheimers got hold of him and took him away from me he is in a nursing home now and i cry myself to sleep often thinking of the times we had listening to elvis hubby is only 67 and he has had alzheimers since his late 50s !
@JehovahMyShepherd your very much wrong there Elvis would have made it in any decade the guy had everything going for him and you my friend if your good enough no matter what size you are will make it and by the 155 lbs for 6ft.is no way heavy who the hell is filling your head with that nonsense ..good luck mate
This is the perfect song to grope to, why do you think parents had a problem with rock and roll in the start - sex. Several early Elvis songs are thinly veiled songs about fooling around. Some aren't even veiled. Great song, nice collection of young pics. thumbs up.
It breaks my heart to know that this man became an American joke in his later years. He is the greatest American music icon ever.... He will never be replaced.
He was the firstest with the mostest! I like Michael, I like Freddie, I like others, they are very talented, but no one had the charisma, impact and complexity of Elvis's voice! Who wants to compare Elvis with someone else he must first listen to over 600 songs recorded then add live performance, sex appeal, honesty, sense of humor and a generous soul. Elvis was so unique he has performed many styles, he was the perfect artist, a true king. Elvis is still in the building, he never left. FOREVER!
@pokerface424242 If Elvis was applying for a job in a rock n roll band in heaven this would be the perfect recommendation for him . Ive listened to the best efforts of elvis impersonators, and its just a bit sad. You listen to the real man and you know he is indeed unique, music was in his veins. No one could ever move or sound like him. Long live the King !
I had the privilege of meeting Al Michael (who wrote under the pseudonym "Dave Bartholomew") in Santa Monica 30 yrs ago. What a fine, articulate, sensitive gentleman he was ---and he had this incredible Latina wife who was really creative and sexy, too. What a shame that even a great artist like him was having a hard time selling his work--even after a string of hits for ELvis! This society does not treat creative folk right! It was a thrill meeting him and his wife.
This is the very early years of Elvis before he reached his mature singing years. You can feel the raw force of his emotion in his voice, like a glittering diamond ready to break out of the encasing rock.
I DON'T REMBER THE IMAGE @ 2min ELVIS SITTING IN 1968 TV SPECIAL. HE IS NOT IN THE BLACK LEATHER SUIT>>> THE TWO SIT-DOWN SHOWS WERE IN LEATHER... I HAVE ALL OUTTAKES I THINK? HELP? FROM HOWIE HOWARDWUSA@YAHOO.COM
I remember my mom & her girlfriends:Lollie McGregor & Mrs. Scarbo & Mrs. Jarvis sitting on the front porch & listening to Elvis . They loved him but were secret about it. They could not reveal their feelings. Elvis was a no, no! But we children loved Elvis too and consequently we bonded in our love for the KING. Thankyou, Elvis for making our lives of some importance.
@farranspointon Your mother & her friends "secret appreciation" of Elvis is an interesting sidelight to the Presley phenomenon. Can you put an approximate year and section of the country to this?
Peggy Chason----There will never be anyone who will take his place! There was nothing he couldn't sing! Songs I didn't even like were great sung by him!!
@fuelerxmdt Stand not in judgement lest yea be judged jerk off. Your not from his era, for sure or you wouldn't be talking crap. We all make mistakes. The "King" will always be. PERIOD. Lets just appreciate what we had and what we lost.
John Lennon worshiped Elvis as much as anyone could. Any Elvis fan wanting to criticize The Beatles or Lennon (alone) for not being Elvis need not worry. Lennon was the first to admit it. Lennon LOVED Elvis. All the Beatles did, but John REALLY did.
See? You don't need twenty producers and a 90 zillion dollar studio with a billion dollars of the latest wiz-bangs and a 100 PR people shoving mediocrity down our throats. You need talent that comes from the heart. You need passion. You need Elvis!
JUKEBOX SATURDAY NIGHT: Absolutely positively my favorite Elvis song. I let myself dance around the kitchen singing it at the top of my lungs- the most vitality I've summoned all day! The neighbors might wonder what's going on, but hey...my neighbors are cool. This, and a can of Progresso Lentil Soup, a Klondike, a little cuckoo here and there, and I'm good to go.
DONT GET NO BETTER THAN THE ''HILLBILLY CAT TELL ALL THEM OTHERS TO STEP ASIDE THIS SONG IS RAW IN ITS PUREIST FORM JON LENNON SAID IT BEFORE ELVIS THERE WAS NOTHING NOR AFTER EXCEPT GEORGE STRAIT
@tommieparch tommy john lennon did say in a interview before elvis there was nothing, levon helm did a special on elvis pretty cool, i added the george strait bit
Has anybody been watching the new TNT summer series "Memphis Beat". It's fabulous, scripts wonderful writing. Go to tnt.tv and click on One Night of Sin episode, and go to part v to see Jason Lee as Dwight Hendricks, Memphis detective. At end of each episode he moonlights at club and ends episode w/an Elvis song, altho he doesn't do the singing.
@bon1042 - You are so right. I really like that show, and the "One night of sin" was awesome. That was actually the original way the song was written and performed long before "E". But then, he did take a lot of his early stuff from southern black blues, one of the greatest sounds in the history of music. Elvis was definitely influenced by guys like Blind Willie Jones and his kind of great musicians. Those guys started it all - Elvis just took it into the mainstream.
@HalfFastChevy Yes, they did start it all.... I was 13 when Elvis exploded. I have the original Loving You LP, still in great condition. But on the CD there are great extras, and one if the "One Night of Sin" version.
hes the king, the best, nothing else to say.

Long live the King!

Man I keep telling my family and friends I should have been born in a different generation! Seriously I wish I was around when Elvis was.

Has anybody been watching the new TNT summer series "Memphis Beat". It's fabulous, scripts wonderful writing. Go to tnt.tv and click on One Night of Sin episode, and go to part v to see Jason Lee as Dwight Hendricks, Memphis detective. At end of each episode he moonlights at club and ends episode w/an Elvis song, altho he doesn't do the singing.
bon1042 1 year ago
@bon1042 - You are so right. I really like that show, and the "One night of sin" was awesome. That was actually the original way the song was written and performed long before "E". But then, he did take a lot of his early stuff from southern black blues, one of the greatest sounds in the history of music. Elvis was definitely influenced by guys like Blind Willie Jones and his kind of great musicians. Those guys started it all - Elvis just took it into the mainstream.
HalfFastChevy 1 year ago
@HalfFastChevy Yes, they did start it all.... I was 13 when Elvis exploded. I have the original Loving You LP, still in great condition. But on the CD there are great extras, and one if the "One Night of Sin" version.
