“When I hear new music coming into my head, its mission is integrated into its notes. It basically tells me how it wants to be.” – John McLaughlin. From Page 1 of the book “Follow Your Heart – John McLaughlin song by song.”
why did people cheered louder for Trilok Gurtu than for Dominique DiPiazza, of course the ovation is well deserved for such an amazing percusionist, but Dominique is equally amazing on bass guitar, and i guess everyone can notice John's huge talent
Wonderful guitar playing as ever - however I sometimes wish John would opt for a more pure acoustic sound, rather than vainly trying to enhance his already perfect tone with effects. It seems to conflict with the purity of that instrument.
Hi BakedWalnut, the "enhanced" tone is just a matter of taste... John used it very gently, mainly "held" chords in the background, which go together well with the whole band sound. I like it !
I cant believe you posted this! I had NO idea it was on video anywhere! You, my friend, are worth more than your weight in gold! Thanks for this post!!!!!!!
Thank you, Ilafutaal, for posting this great video. I've found the show among my old tapes just a few days ago and was curious, if someone brought it into Youtube. So, many thanx to you again... I can confirm that the whole show is incredible !!! These three musicians are absolutely outstanding.
I like how he sneaks Miles Davis' "Jean Pierre" in there

This is so full of the very fast, accurate and fluid laughing/giggling guitar runs that only JM does.
Thanks for all your videos!!

"Jozy" is a piece for Joe Zawinul, isn't it? Hence the synth tones.
