  • I used to know a guy who felt too superieur for something like Bukowki's work. I had lend e dvd of Barfly to his girlfriend but he didn't allow her to watch it. She returned it without having it watched. This guy was some son of a rich parents and enjoyed a university schooling and lived in images created by his wellfare.

I see here 17 "dislikes". Well I can imagine who this people are.

Great animation though, thanks for posting it.

  • This made me laugh.

  • The music doesn't fit. The poem is more of existential enlightenment. The Requiem suite calls for epic feelings and a sense of tragedy. Bukowski does not reflect that feeling within this poem. The animation is very good. The music is very good. The poem is excellent. Take one part out of these 3 and it will be better.

  • well done! nice touch with philip glass. it put bukowski in a different light than usual.

  • @cubetheory Kronos Quartet and i was composed by Clint Mansell.

  • thanks for posting. works well w or w/o music. great animation fitting for/with the words. glad you like bukoskis work. a true poet. cheers.

  • I liked the music. I think this is complete genius.

  • I think Bukowski's words speak for themselves without the shitty music.

  • this is genius!

  • what a way to be introduced to a poem ^_^ This is part of my next forensics piece because of you!

  • Bravo.

  • Old man Buk, a teacher.

  • FABULOUS VIDEO - I CONGRATULATE THE DEPTH IN VERSES! An Outstanding Epic; With meaningful ethic; Words that match... Work that we catch.. Depictions of the mundane! Afflictions that inflame Yet compounding useless synergy… While drowning in endless inanity… Construing boundless hypocrisy… Truthful Testimonial of collective stupidity…
  • great writer but this song is overused and doesnt fit into this

  • This is how it`s done. Simple yet powerfull, and totally in tune with the words you made this for. Did i say great job, oh yes i did.

  • I actually thought the music fit well, in a weird way. I think once you read a book by Bukowski, you think all his poems are supposed to have the same bitter attitude, but there was actually a glimmer of sadness in this one, to me.

  • @Flea817 I have to agree with you. The music fit well for me too, and, for me, what really drives the poem, is that glimmer of sadness. It encapsulates me every time i read it.

  • fucking awesome, man! this is definately one of my top ten poems by bukowski

  • Is he being sarcastic in this?

  • Thanks, that was excellent, I don't know how anybody could not like Buk's work. I guess they don't get it, maybe they're the ones that are there, while he is here.

  • good animation.

  • whats the name of the music in this. its really cool!

  • @paulieh24

    Clint Mansell: Lux Aeterna ;)

  • @ghelda nice one buddy;)

  • The music in this clip doesn't properly represent the vibe. Chuck wasn't only being "poor me" about the whole thing, he was also being holistic about the "poor me" thing.

  • it is much better with the music off..the words become immediately stronger

  • nice art. agree that music somehow too much a simple reading would have worked? 4*

  • Thats fucking great! You are the man!

  • try it with mahler...

  • Square pegs trying to fit into round holes/oil and water unmixable/not of this world/but still smilin' *~*

  • Excellent animation.. but I felt like the music didn't fit the poem. Bukowski has such a dingy, understated and partially battered feel to his work, and that song was way too loud and suspenseful for such a gentle piece of poetry. But like I said, I loved the animation, and I offer this as a constructive criticism.. With a different selection of music I think it could hit it right on the head.

  • amazing

  • Fantastic.

  • I disagree with arthwr's dislike of the music. Great choice, theme music from requiem for a dream, which seems to have a very common theme with the poem. Well Done!

  • sorry man,but really dislikeed the music you used,i think it don't make the right connection with the animation, which I found beatiful, superherb, etc :)

  • i was looking for something that would motivate teenagers - i just found it! Thank you!!

  • yup, that's great! Thanks for taking the time

  • Bravo

  • It's called "Lux Aeterna" and was composed by Clint Mansell. It was composed for the film Requiem for a Dream.

  • You've made Charles Bukowski one of my favorite poets.

The animation was fantastic! I especially liked how you turned the word 'people' into a person.

  • A real fucking poet...

  • great video m. Smith! profoundly touching!

  • That was just awesome. Just sheer, raw awesomeness.

  • My God, so simple and yet so deep.

"But they are there, and i am here", Bukowski will never die.

  • buenísimo

  • elliot smith. ha.

i love bukowski and the musician.

  • Loved that.

  • Brillant animation :)

  • great animation !

  • very nice work !

  • large compliment

  • great job.

  • good work man.

  • amazing work...

  • does anyone know who this composer is/ name of the song?

  • the kronos quartet

  • thanks dude

  • That was brilliant, Bukowski was a genius. Cool animation & music too.

  • hank? did you guys share chocolate shakes together on summer afternoons? charles bukowsky had every reason to be cynical and distrought, he loved life but loathed every person in it, because he was ugly and people said "nice poems charles, so what do you do?"

  • Hank was not bitter or negative at all. He was just real. He loved life.

  • that was gooooooood

  • the beautiful words of a bitter and negative human being voicing the words of many. is there another buk? anyone that comes close?

  • i must say it's not perfect, but it can make me shiver.

  • I agree

  • this video was a bit over the top. the music was too epic and end of the world to go well with the poem. and besides that you coudln't really read the poem properly and get the gist of it because of the swirling and stuff.

  • "Some people never crazy. What horrible lives they must lead."

Great vid as a backdrop to the work of a great poet.

  • awesome work, man. keep it up!

  • Hit where it hurts. Beautiful.

  • Absolutely, undeniably brilliant. Excellent choice for the poem, excellent choice for the music, Mansell's Lux Aeterna fit perfectly. Excellent animation. Excellent work.

  • That was really fucking good.

  • this was spectacular.....

  • Dillenger81, Soultears99, TombyStone, Slothafur, Manmadeofscotch, plcapeli, lulurawks, MrMirrormasked, million502, BurritoFueled and turnerj41 I appreciate your comments and critiques. Makes this project more rewarding. I feel that you who appreciate the mood channeled here are too rare. I will explore many moods as I go on. • you deserve an award for that...yet you could have done without the signature at the end

  • Thank you!

  • very good, congratulation.

  • This is a fucking piece of art! Go on elliotmsmith !

  • very very well done

  • very well done.

  • Good job, this is one of my favourite poems. One thing I always found funny about this though is alot of the people I know who like Bukowski are these people, they just don't realise it. BUt then there are people starving to death so I suppose everyone's got it easy from someone's point of view.

  • You hit on the head tomby.

  • Yeah he did, that's how one of the many ways I felt when creating this piece.

  • well done i like your job

  • the music with that poem go so well together. it made me shiver.

  • Thanks

  • great

  • excellent!

  • Appeciate it!

  • The music is by Hans Zimmer.

  • well done

  • Thank you!

  • nice job. did u make this with motion? what's the music? thanks

  • I made this with Adobe After Effects. The music is from the soundtrack to the film "A Requium for a Dream" by Darren Aronofsky. I'm a bit confused if it's by the kronos Quartet or Hans Zimmer as ffub says. Thank you for your apprecation.
